“And how did you take yours?” Judge Vance asked, watching Damian move behind the counter.

“Black.” He shrugged as though it were the most obvious answer in the world.

“I expected someone with your looks to have a sweet tooth.” She arched a brow.

Damain stopped in his tracks and gave her an amused look, the kind a person gave when someone clearly had no idea what they were talking about.

“Believe me when I say there is nothing sweet about me.”

With that, Damian busied himself with the coffee machine, and she let her gaze travel over him while pretending she was merely taking in the room again. Judge Vance folded her hands loosely in her lap.

“I had imagined many things when you asked to meet privately. Like why would a lawyer be interested in a judge?”

Damian chuckled at her words and took a seat opposite her. Raising a brow, he asked,

“Don’t you think you are asking the wrong question?”

“Ooh?” She smiled faintly. “What question should I be asking?”

He leaned forward and spoke in a low voice only the two of them could hear.

“This is not a lawyer showing interest in a judge. It’s a man taking interest in a lady…”

A low gasp escaped her lips, but before she could speak, Damian got back on his feet and walked up to the counter. He brought two cups over and set hers down first. The coffee was served in a clean white mug, a pale swirl of milk softening the dark surface. He placed his own beside it, then finally sat across from her again.

Judge Vance wrapped both hands around the mug, letting the heat settle into her skin before taking a careful sip. Her expression softened immediately.

“You really did all this because you found an old lady interesting?” she said with a smile, but he could feel the edge in her voice.

Damian leaned back slightly in his chair.

“Old? What I see is a graceful woman, accomplished both professionally and personally. And to me, there is nothing sexier than that.”

Her body jolted at those words, and when she looked up at him again, her face had already turned red. Her eyes searched his, and in that moment all she saw was lust.

The kind of lust men reserved for beautiful women. It was something her life had been missing as she aged and rose in her career. Either she was too old now, or too dangerous to flirt with, especially with a husband who barely noticed her anymore. In fact, the way he high fived her in the morning, one would think she was one of the boys.

In Damain’s eyes was everything she had ever wanted. A man looking at her with the kind of hunger she had not seen directed at her in years.

’He’s a dangerous man,’ she thought.

There was something disarming about her experience with Damian. His attempt to win her over despite knowing her status was not grand, it was simple and personal. He had not invited her somewhere impressive and let the setting do the work. He had created the mood himself.

“So… what do you normally imagine each time you look at me or think of me?” she asked, swallowing hard as heat began to gather low in her body.

Unknown to her, a pink miasma was pouring from Damain’s body and had already filled the entire room in a pink, misty fog.

Damian picked up his cup, the corner of his mouth curving faintly.

“I apologize, but my thoughts about you are quite intense.” He deliberately exhaled loudly, allowing the words to sink in and build an invisible tension between them.

Slowly, his hand began creeping across the table until it settled gently over hers, and their eyes locked deeply.

“I can’t just say them. I have to show you.” Damain’s voice had become a whisper. The kind that made her soul shudder.

Judge Vance shut her eyes tightly in contemplation. Her heart was racing, her body reacting beneath his touch. From that touch alone, she could already feel herself growing damp, and that came from someone who had suffered through dry spells over the last few years whenever she had to be intimate with her husband. Yet here she was, undone by a stranger.

“I’m married…”

Unable to withstand the pressure any longer, she finally let the words out and pulled her hand away. Judge Vance knew that if she spent one more second here, she would betray her husband and children.

However, Damian’s hand followed hers, his fingers slipping around it and holding on firmly yet gently.

“So am I. Yet I’m here with you… all alone… with nothing but time and privacy…” he said in a soothing tone that sent pleasure through her ears.

“But…”

“And…” Damain cut her off.

He reached for her second hand, taking that one too as he leaned in.

“And I know if I walk out that door without exploring my deepest desires with you, I will regret it for the rest of my life.”

Another jolt shot through her body, and even Damain, who was holding her, felt the tremor that ran through her for him.

Did he really go out of his way simply because he wanted her?

What about her was so attractive to a man so handsome he could probably have any woman he wanted?

A thousand questions plagued her mind, but she could never reach a conclusion so long as Damain’s lustful gaze remained fixed on her.

Finally, the thing she had always wanted stood before her. How could she turn away from it?

Had she not given up enough for her family already?

Surely this once, she should be allowed to put herself first.

“Just this once…” she mumbled in a low tone.

That response only drew a strange smile onto Damain’s face as he repeated her words.

“Just this once…”

Those were the words of a man who knew this would be a long and happy affair.
