Chapter 135: 135
In the basement under the tavern, Alexander let go of Michelle’s wrist, and she pushed her spirit energy into the ground and to the underground lake, so she could observe it herself. It was deep, but not wide enough to have evaporation strong enough to cause such dense humidity in the basement.
That could mean two things. Either that wasn’t the only lake like that, or the conditions underground were somehow changed, so the evaporation was faster. It could be both temperature and pressure. The evaporation could be faster if the temperature was higher or if the pressure was lower.
“Alexander, did you find any more lakes like this one?” Michelle asked as she pushed her spirit energy deeper into the lake, sensing for any abnormalities.
“No!” Alexander shook his head, his voice still playful. “Just this one.”
Michelle pushed her spirit energy into the underground lake until it reached the bottom, the depth shocking her. It was so deep she could barely reach it with her spirit energy after pushing her dantian to its limit. And she originally wanted to spread her spirit energy all around the lake, but she cast that thought aside. It was impossible with her current strength.
Still, she could move the spirit energy she already sent out all around the lake, to check it out.
The spirit energy was like a long, thin thread which moved according to Michelle’s wishes, moving to the side of the lake, feeling around the walls.
After circling the walls with the spirit energy, Michelle frowned a bit. She couldn’t discover anything.
“Alexander, can you check the lake for me? I can’t find any abnormalities…” Michelle decided to turn to Alexander. Though she hated relying on others, especially those she didn’t really like, since he had already offered his assistance, she would use him. No matter how repulsive he was, he was still much more powerful than her, and filling the whole lake with his energy would be easy for him.
Alexander lifted a brow as he watched Michelle stand up, retracting her spirit energy. From her expression, he couldn’t read whether she was letting her walls down or was just using him, but he didn’t really care. It was amusing to watch her trying to achieve something, so if his little interference could give her more possibilities, elongating the time he could watch her, he didn’t mind stepping in.
Standing up, Michelle watched as Alexander walked to the place where she was squatting down just a moment ago. He smiled at her with that annoying smile of his and something black left his fingers. It looked like a liquid as it flew to the ground, but when it landed, it shattered like glass, even having the same sound of breaking.
When the black shards scattered over the ground, a black net slowly formed between them and started sinking into the ground, pulling the broken pieces along.
As the small black net sank under the soil, a small black string coiled out and wiggled towards Alexander, wrapping around his thumb.
Michelle watched the whole process with fascination, her purple eyes narrowing in thought. That clearly wasn’t spirit or soul energy. It was something else, carrying more danger. “I thought you were a Spirit Master…” she muttered as she stared at Alexander’s devilishly handsome face.
“Did you think a mere Spirit Master could somehow catch Void Plague?” Alexander asked with a lifted brow.
“What do you mean?” Michelle frowned. “Didn’t you get it by falling into the void because of an accident?” she asked.
“Well, yes and no.” Alexander hummed playfully as he focused on the black net entering the lake underground. It moved rapidly and soon reached the bottom. Then, he inserted more of the black energy through the thin black thread into the net, and it started stretching all over the bottom and sides of the lake. “Ordinary Spirit Masters would have no chance of surviving if they fell into the void. It would be an instant death sentence for them.”
“So what kind of power do you have?” Michelle moved her gaze to the thin thread hanging off Alexander’s thumb. It was so small, yet its aura was so threatening that her instincts flared up in warning. She couldn’t imagine just how oppressive it would be if there was more of it.
“Hm…?” Alexander’s smile widened as he stared at Michelle. “Are you curious about me now?” he asked with a chuckle. “But I don’t think you have ever heard about my power,” he finished with a snicker as he retracted the black net from the lake and let it retract back into his body. “The lake has no abnormalities. It’s just strangely rich in spirit energy, suitable for water element Spirit Masters to cultivate.”
“Water element…” Michelle mumbled. When she thought about it by physics and chemistry, water and ice were basically the same, just their states were different.
Ice was merely the solid state of water, but it had its own element, making Michelle wonder whether it was possible for her, an ice element Spirit Master, to cultivate the water element. In the end, whenever she thawed her ice, it turned into water, and she could still make it freeze whenever she wanted. The only condition was that it had to be water originated from her ice.
“What are you thinking about so deeply?” Alexander asked with a smile as he walked behind Michelle.
But she completely ignored him and instead suddenly erected a thick ice pillar next to her, from floor to the ceiling. When one looked closer, they could realize that the pillar was hollow, with no center.
“What is this for?” Alexander asked as he ran his palm over the side of the pillar. It wasn’t strong. If he wanted to, he could break it without needing to lift a finger. But he didn’t. He was curious about what Michelle would do next.
And she didn’t disappoint him. She placed both her palms on the pillar and started pushing all her ice element spirit energy into it, letting it freely swirl inside. When she felt spent, she stepped back and sat down on the damp ground, watching the pillar with her calculating gaze. Since she had succeeded to make it ’snow’ when she tried to get rid of the humidity, she wanted to try to control all the water in the air and maybe turn it all into her own ice.
Very quickly, the vapor in the air right next to the pillar started condensing into water and the water drops quickly solidified into ice. Those that were touching the pillar started forming a new layer of ice on it, while those a bit further started falling to the ground where they broke apart with a soft clinking.
Soon after, Michelle once again felt soft wind moving around the basement along with the humidity. Nature was just amazing, giving her pillar enough ’fuel’ to continue making it snow in the underground. But it was in just a small radius around the pillar.
Still, if used in a fight, it would be good enough to slur the movements of her enemies or at least make them slip if they came close enough. Also, if she cultivated, her ice would get stronger and colder in the future, either giving her the chance to enlarge the place where it would snow, or making the snow and surroundings colder, further slowing her enemies.
Alexander was fairly surprised when he saw what the ice pillar caused. He had already seen Michelle make it snow once in the basement, but back then it was just for a while and she was sustaining it by draining her stamina. At the moment, her ice element spirit energy kept dancing within the ice pillar, constantly causing the temperature to drop, no longer needing Michelle to waste her stamina to make it snow.
Though it was clear she was spent from creating the pillar, if she got stronger, it would be easy for her to create a few such pillars and she could cover fields with snow if she wished. The only condition was enough humidity in the air. Because once there was no, or nearly no, vapor in the air, the pillar could no longer condense anything.
“How do you call this?” Alexander asked as he turned to stare at Michelle. His playful smile was replaced with a calculating one, though the playfulness and teasing in his voice still remained.
“Condensator,” Michelle spat out as she felt the humidity in the air getting lower. She was tired and wanted to sleep. But she decided to watch the pillar until it stopped working. Then, she would turn her focus back on the underground lake.
For quite some time, Michelle felt the soft but wet wind flow by her towards the pillar, but slowly it started slowing down until it was nearly unnoticeable. If her long silver hair didn’t dance next to her weakly, she would have thought the wind was already gone.
Along with the wind, the snowing also got weaker, but it wasn’t as clear.
But everything good had to end at some point. When the snowing stopped, Michelle smiled a bit and looked around the pillar. Snow was piled all around it, and the pillar itself was much thicker than when she had erected it.
