Chapter 184: 184
Michelle stepped out of Red Velvet House and started wandering the streets lazily, thinking about what she had just found out. It turned out both the city she was in and the Sloan family were bothersome opponents.
The Sloan family consisted of many small branch families, and the city had an intricate system protecting the heads of two families and hiding the identities of those above them.
With the Sloan family, Michelle knew that clashing was inevitable, but she didn’t have to get into a fight with the city. She was looking for information about it for two reasons.
The first one was simple. She was curious about the sect-like city. And the second wasn’t that special either. To get better information about the Sloan family, her real target, she had to have at least some understanding of the city. So she would know where to look for the information.
Having nothing much to do except think about the information she just got, Michelle was about to use her contract with Nyxaroth to locate him and Ivona when she felt something brush against her leg. She looked down and saw a black cat.
“What are you doing here, kitty?” Michelle squatted down to pet it, her purple eyes deepening meaningfully. The gem on the cat’s forehead showed its identity.
The cat and Michelle had already met once before. And they had even spent quite a while together. It was the cat from the Ostrich family’s mansion back in the Land of Exile.
When leaving the mansion, Michelle was followed by the cat, but once she reached the Archduchy, the cat disappeared. As if it had never existed. And after weeks of being gone, it had reappeared in front of her.
“Do you need my help with something?” It looked like Michelle was talking to herself as she continued petting the cat, brushing her fingers over the black fur.
The cat didn’t respond to anything. It just let Michelle pet it while snuggling against her.
Understanding that the cat wouldn’t tell her anything, Michelle stood up and glanced down at it. “If you want something from me, lead me there…”
Finally, the cat reacted. With a swift leap, it rushed through the city.
The Red Velvet House was on the corner of the noble part of the city, where the two families lived, bordering the rich area where the rich, but not part of the families, lived. And the cat ran into the noble area.
So Michelle followed closely behind, keeping her eye out for anything unexpected.
But she didn’t see anything. Except for the few people in the shops and restaurants, the streets were empty and silent. It somehow looked like a ghost town. But not exactly.
The cat kept running, so Michelle went after it. Through the circle of the noble area to the ring of the rich again, then the ring of the poor but not homeless, and finally the slums ring. It was on the opposite side of the city from the gate through which Michelle and Ivona got into the city.
And quite the unexpected scene unfolded before Michelle’s eyes. Bloodied and weak, in front of the black cat lay the two leopards Michelle and Ivona rode to the city on.
The two big cats stared at Michelle, their eyes clear. So it seemed they didn’t want her to heal them. Or at least they weren’t expecting it.
But the small black kitty thought otherwise. Turning to look at Michelle, its eyes had a hint of plea shimmering deep within the split pupils.
Michelle was puzzled. She didn’t understand why the cat wanted her to heal the leopards. But she didn’t complain and reached into her spatial ring as she walked towards the two wounded creatures.
The leopards weren’t happy when Michelle approached, so they bared their teeth at her. But when the black cat let out a single hiss, they instantly shut their jaws. It was clear who was the most powerful of the three.
There were many things Michelle wanted to ask, but she doubted she would get an answer. It didn’t seem like any of the three animals could speak. They could understand her, but there was no way for them to answer her questions. So there was no point in asking.
Quickly, while touching the two leopards as little as possible, Michelle examined them. When she saw them, she thought they just had external wounds, but when her examination was over, her face was creased into a nasty frown.
The wounds were indeed only external, but they were far from ordinary. Each wound had green spirit energy swirling around it, preventing healing and sometimes even making the wounds worse. The person or creature who inflicted the wounds clearly meant to torture the two leopards.
Seeing that the leopards were greatly suffering, Michelle frowned a bit. The wounds weren’t that deep, so if she got rid of the wind element spirit energy, they would heal quickly. But that wasn’t such an easy thing to do, especially since Michelle couldn’t use her spirit energy so she wouldn’t give away her Spirit Soul Blood to others. She still didn’t feel like being hunted by powerhouses.
If she could use her spirit energy, she could send her dark element spirit energy into the wounds to drive out the wind element and soothe the pain. Because while light element spirit energy could heal, dark element spirit energy could numb the nervous system.
Of course, that wouldn’t be easy to do. She would need to focus extremely on not pushing the wind element deeper into the wounds instead of driving it out.
For quite a while, Michelle thought whether it was possible to use soul energy or something else to get rid of the wind element spirit energy, but she couldn’t think of anything.
Soul and spirit energy coexisted within each other, so one couldn’t push the other out. Unless they were both in a solid state.
But Michelle couldn’t achieve that with the spirit energy which didn’t belong to her even if she did solidify her soul energy.
As if the cat could see Michelle’s hesitation and understood her worries, it jumped to one of the leopards and nudged its small head against the leopard’s paw.
Seeing that, Michelle nodded a bit. The chance of someone discovering her Spirit Soul Blood was very slim since she was only in the lower realm.
So she started gathering her dark element spirit energy in her hands. Then, she pressed her palms to one of the leopards’ fur and let the spirit energy spread over his skin. But she didn’t, yet, let it seep into the wounds. That would be reckless.
When the leopard’s whole fur had a black gleam to it, Michelle could finally focus on the wounds. She started with the biggest one, because that had the most open area, making it easier for her to send her spirit energy in.
Making the spirit energy slowly crawl across the leopard’s skin, Michelle had the spirit energy enter the wound from one side, forcing the wind element spirit energy out.
She had to have her spirit energy under perfect control at all times, which made the short process quite taxing. But after a while, she could feel the wind element spirit energy dispersing into the air as it had nothing more to get stuck to.
The moment she was done with the first wounds, Michelle moved on to another one.
Within a few minutes, the first leopard was freed of the torture caused by the residual wind element spirit energy.
Michelle wanted to go on to help the second leopard, but the little black cat stood in her way, letting out a sharp hiss.
When the hiss entered Michelle’s ears, she suddenly felt extremely dizzy and fell down, slumping against the leopard she had just treated with a groan. Her head was spinning and she felt like puking.
Glancing at the black cat, she felt puzzled. Was the cat’s hiss the cause of the state she was in? Did that mean the cat was powerful enough to overpower her so quickly?
The black cat leapt from the wounded leopard to Michelle’s side and nuzzled its head against her arm, as if trying to say something. But Michelle couldn’t understand a word of it. So she just stared at the cat in confusion, while feeling terrible.
One of the things she hated to the core was being dizzy and having her head spin. Because she couldn’t focus on anything then and was completely vulnerable.
A hot wave suddenly rushed over Michelle’s body, and she could barely hold back from hurling. She abhorred the idea of lying in her own vomit, so she refused to puke.
But, as if something was toying with her, when she stopped herself from vomiting, her head started spinning even more, the dizziness getting worse. And that caused another hot wave to rush over her body.
The endless cycle of hot waves and dizziness made Michelle remember a sickness she once had in her past life. Back then, she felt exactly the same as at the moment, but she didn’t have to hold back from vomiting, so it wasn’t that bad.
