Chapter 258: 258
For the next few days, Michelle remained in the room to recover. To get rid of her boredom, she put her full focus on perfecting the poison she had made.
Since she was doing it constantly, by the end of the third day, she had two variants of the poison.
The first one worked exactly the same as the poison Mavreth had given her. Upon being ground and put onto a wound, it entered the bloodstream.
The only thing Michelle couldn’t achieve was that it would always go snap the same vein. It went quite randomly.
But for that, she would need to consult Mavreth, so she didn’t focus on it too much.
Still, it was a good result. She achieved it by pumping soul energy into the slimy part of the poison, and spirit energy into the corrosive part. Then, she mixed the two parts together.
Because the slime part had soul energy, and the corrosive part had spirit energy in it, the two parts didn’t react with each other even though they were mixed together.
After finishing the first poison, she proceeded to alter the first version of the poison into a paste.
Basically, all she did was melt the pill and mix it into a paste that wouldn’t react with it. The paste didn’t smell like a poison; it didn’t have that sickeningly sweet smell.
Quite the opposite. It had a clear, bitter smell of medicine. That meant, if Michelle wanted to, she could fool someone into putting it on a wound, and she wouldn’t even have to act herself. She would just need to leave it in a visible place where a wounded person would go.
But to reach that, Michelle had to test it with quite a few pastes, because she didn’t know which would react to it and which not.
And even when she found a paste that didn’t react with the poison, she continued testing others until she had about five non-reactive pastes. Then, she started testing which worked the best.
Because even if the pastes didn’t react to the poison, they could dull the effect. So Michelle wanted to see how exactly each paste affected it. Because that would basically give her a few poisons of different power. Then, she could use them depending on the situation.
After finally recovering, Michelle put back on her disguise mask and left the room.
The first thing she did was go to the sect’s tailor shop. The whole time, she had only been in the Everfrost Mantle, and it was getting on her nerves. It was a long coat, so she looked normal, but it was still quite uncomfortable.
Entering the shop, Michelle raised a brow. It was divided into sections, based on the element of those who should wear the clothes.
The fabric was made by a special worm, and they could only be worn by those of the same element as the worms; otherwise, the fabric would quickly get ruined.
There were fabrics of all elements.
And then there was an elementless section, for those who didn’t cultivate spirit energy.
Michelle was tempted to go to the ice element section, but she was keeping her spirit energy a secret. So she headed to the elementless section.
Not being a disciple of the sect, some attention was on her. And the fact that she went to the elementless section caused some frowns.
Except for those that had seen Michelle fight in the arena, no one else knew her capabilities. So they thought she was a cultivation trash. They couldn’t feel any kind of energy from her, so they naturally assumed it.
Michelle didn’t pay it any attention. She picked a few sets of clothes and went to pay for them.
But she wasn’t exactly satisfied with the clothes.
The clothes she was used to were more practical, tailored specially to resemble clothes from the 21st century. The clothes she bought were nothing like that.
While paying for the clothes, Michelle could feel the scornful gazes of those around. The only one who didn’t have a gaze like that was the woman handling her order.
Michelle could guess why that was. The woman was much more powerful than the other disciples.
In other words, she belonged to the disciples from the upper realm, and she had either seen or heard about how Michelle fought in the arena.
That raised a question in Michelle. Were all the disciples who were handling shops from the upper realm?
When Michelle paid for the clothes, she was ready to turn around and leave, but the woman stopped her.
“Yes?” Michelle tilted her head lazily.
“Would you be willing to spar with me in the arena?” the woman asked. She lowered her voice so others wouldn’t hear it.
Michelle didn’t have to think about it. “Sure!” she nodded. The last few days, she was locked up in her room, not really moving. She really wanted to move her body again. And sparring was perfect for that.
So Michelle quickly discussed with the woman, Elise, when and where they would have the sparring match, and Michelle then left. She went back to her room to change into the new clothes before going to Mavreth’s office.
But before she could get there, a familiar face appeared in front of her. “How can I help you, Lady Elena?” Michelle asked.
Elena Serith glared at Michelle. “I heard you can’t cultivate!” she started.
Michelle lazily tilted her head. The news sure spread fast. “What about it, my beautiful lady?” Her voice was calm.
Elena’s frown deepened, her glare turning sharper. “Don’t you feel any shame, walking around here like this?!” She had expected Michelle to be embarrassed after being exposed as being unable to cultivate.
“No…” Michelle shook her head. “I’m quite fine like this.”
Elena nearly exploded, her face turning red with anger.
But Michelle didn’t feel like dealing with her. “My beautiful lady, I have somewhere I need to be, so do excuse me.” She passed by Elena and headed toward Mavreth’s office.
Elena wanted to stop her, but she was shocked to realize that after taking her eyes off Michelle for just a second, she was gone. A wave of dread washed over her.
Could someone who could disappear like that really be a cultivation trash?
The answer was obvious. No!
That meant, if others couldn’t sense Michelle’s power, her power to conceal it was rule-bending.
And the reason she went to the elementless part of the tailor shop probably wasn’t because she couldn’t cultivate. Maybe she was just keeping up an act.
Standing alone, Elena clenched her fist. At first, she felt humiliated that Michelle—in her eyes, Michael Grayson—had ignored her, but after thinking things through, her heart had clenched and her stomach twisted.
Entering Mavreth’s office, Michelle placed two bottles on his table. “Master, how did you make it so the poison always causes blindness?” she straight up asked.
Mavreth took the two bottles and checked the content—the paste and the poison pills.
“It’s simple, actually.” He flipped his hand and a herb appeared on the table. “Some herbs are drawn to certain places. This one is drawn to the sight center.”
Michelle picked up the herb, frowning a bit.
Vision Stem. It was used to create eye drops for getting rid of spirit energy stuck in the eyes. It was a disease that could happen when someone was struck by a skill in the face.
“I’ll try it. Thank you, master.” Michelle bowed her head a bit. She rarely did it, but as Mavreth’s disciple, she ought to show some respect. Especially since he was helping her.
Mavreth just nodded a bit, continuing to examine the two poisons Michelle had created. “You did it faster than I expected,” he finally said, throwing the bottles back to Michelle.
She caught them and put them away. “I’ll keep surprising you.”
After that, Michelle left Mavreth’s office. She had free time until noon. Then, Elise would finish her work at the tailor shop and they would go for a spar in the arena—of course, in the arena for those from the upper realm.
So, until then, Michelle decided to go to the library.
Since there existed a herb that was drawn to the sight center of the brain, Michelle was sure there existed other herbs that were attracted to other parts of the body. She wanted to find out what herbs they were, so she could create more poisons. They would be applied the same way but affect the victim completely differently.
Just the thought about it made Michelle smile.
In the herb section of the library, no one bothered her and she could read as much as she wanted. So for the next few hours, no one in the sect saw her.
When noon started approaching, Michelle put the books back and left the library. Quickly, she went to the arena.
When the disciples there saw her, they were clearly surprised. Most of them were around when Michelle fought in the arena.
And those that weren’t around had heard about it from their friends.
Of course, there were those who didn’t believe it, but they didn’t really care. Since Michelle was in the arena, she was definitely planning to fight someone. So they could see her full capabilities then.
