Chapter 185: 185
The little black cat stared at Michelle, but it didn’t seem to notice her suffering.
Still, seeing that she didn’t understand its nudges and nuzzles against her arm, it understood that she wasn’t fine. So it curled up next to her and waited for her to get better.
The little black cat didn’t know of the power it carried, that it was the one who caused Michelle to be in such a state. It just wanted to tell her to rest, that she was tired from treating one leopard. But Michelle suddenly collapsed.
Unable to withstand the disgusting feeling of being about to vomit, Michelle used all her strength to wobble up and walk a bit further from the two leopards.
Then, at the corner of the street, she bent her head down as another hot wave washed over her. She no longer held back the vomit, and all that she had in her stomach flew out of her mouth like a projectile.
Seeing what was happening to Michelle, the little black cat got worried, a soft meow leaving its mouth. And, as if by magic, Michelle felt a soothing wave of cold wash over her slowly, letting her relax a bit.
But she still had the disgusting taste of stomach acids in her mouth, making her frown. To get rid of it, she pushed her ice-element spirit energy into her mouth and started solidifying ice on its walls.
After the ice got thick enough, Michelle let it thaw and turn into water. She then spit it out and repeated the whole process two more times to completely get rid of the disgusting feeling.
When it was finally gone, Michelle turned to look at the little black cat.
“What was that for?” she asked with a tilt of her head, but she wasn’t really expecting an answer. From how the cat was acting, anyone could tell she didn’t know that her voice carried so much power.
Under Michelle’s gaze, the cat understood that it was probably the one who caused Michelle to be sick, making it feel guilty. It just let out a low meow and let Michelle walk to the second leopard.
Having already treated the first one, Michelle had a better grasp on how exactly she should control her spirit energy to gain the best efficiency in getting rid of the wind-element spirit energy.
So the second leopard was treated much faster, and Michelle wasn’t even that tired when she was done.
Though the two leopards’ wounds didn’t heal, they already felt much better after Michelle took care of them, so they were clearly thankful and no longer as wary of her.
With the two leopards treated, Michelle turned around, expecting to see the little black cat. But all she could catch a glimpse of was the cat’s sleek tail as it disappeared behind a corner.
Instantly, Michelle broke into a run, going after the cat, but when she reached the corner, the street there was empty.
A deep frown formed on Michelle’s forehead. She was in the slums of the city, so how come it was so empty? Was it the presence of the leopard pair? Did the cat cause it? Or was there a completely different reason as to why no one frequented the parts where she was?
Glancing back at the leopards, Michelle saw they were still there. But both were getting up, prepared to leave.
“How strange…” Michelle mumbled, deciding to leave the place.
Coming back to the leopards, she reached into her spatial ring and took out a bottle of medicine. Though she didn’t have that much time to learn to make the pills the cultivators used when she was still in the Archduchy, she still made sure to learn to make some simple healing elixirs and ointments.
She didn’t know if it would work, but giving beasts or monsters human elixirs should in no way harm them, so Michelle opened the bottle cap, and the smell of medicine filled the air.
Instantly, the two leopards perked up and turned to look at the bottle.
That made Michelle smile. If they were that interested in the elixir, they must have encountered medicine like that before and knew it would help them.
Taking out two wooden bowls, she poured some of the elixir into each and lifted them to the leopards’ jaws.
Quickly, the two leopards lapped up the medicine with their tongues, not leaving a bit behind.
Michelle was left speechless.
She knew how bitter the elixir was, so she was expecting some resistance from the two huge cats. But they didn’t even show signs of disgust.
“Do cats have different taste buds?” she wondered as she put away the bowls and glanced at the leopards’ wounds.
She had never seen something like that in her past life. After taking the medicine, the two leopards’ wounds were closing at a speed visible to the naked eye.
It was much slower than the speed at which her wounds healed because of her Spirit Soul Blood, but it was still an eye-opener for someone originally from the 21st century.
After drinking the elixir Michelle gave them, the two leopards bowed their heads to her slightly. That was quite a high sign of respect in the beast world.
Michelle knew that, too. She had already been living in the body of Michelle Grace for quite a while, so she naturally didn’t stay an oblivious fool.
And she was a bit surprised by the bow. She hadn’t done that big of a thing. And leopards were proud beasts. They wouldn’t bow their heads for something so small. So why?
Just one explanation surfaced in Michelle’s mind. The leopards probably weren’t thanking her for the treatment, but for something her treatment allowed them to do. Or evade…
A while later, the two leopards’ wounds were mostly closed, and they were prepared to leave. Glancing at Michelle, their eyes were asking if she wanted something in return.
Giving it a momentary thought, Michelle nodded a bit. “Bring me out of this city,” she said with a lazy smile. “Just beyond the city walls is enough,” she added.
So one of the leopards lay down on the ground so Michelle could climb on his back. Then, the two leopards started running out of the city. They jumped over the city walls and stopped a bit further.
Michelle got off and bowed her head in return. Since the leopards were being respectful to her, she would return the same respect to them.
After dropping off Michelle, the two leopards ran from the city, returning to where they belonged, while Michelle watched them.
When she could no longer see them in the distance, she closed her eyes and contacted Nyxaroth, who was following Ivona so Michelle could contact her and the other way around. “Nyx, how are things on your end?” Michelle asked as she went over to lean on the city wall.
Nyxaroth’s voice was full of annoyance. “We didn’t get a single reliable piece of information. Every single information broker told us something else.” He clearly didn’t like the situation.
Michelle nodded a bit as she listened. “Tell Ivona to come out. I’ve found an information guild which operates all over the lower realm. No need to bother with the small brokers.”
Then, the connection got cut off. Nyxaroth wasn’t the type for small talk, so once he received the order, he didn’t even respond properly and went to carry it out.
While waiting for Nyxaroth and Ivona to come, Michelle thought about how empty the streets were. She would need to ask Ivona about it when she came. Whether the situation on her end was the same.
And the city walls were strangely empty too. When they came to the city, guards were standing atop the walls, but at the moment, no one was around. Not a single reaction came when Michelle leapt over the city walls with the two leopards. And she was expecting a commotion. The whole city was strange.
After a while, a black cloud descended in front of Michelle and Ivona got off. For Nyxaroth to carry Ivona in such an eye-catching way meant he was confident no one was around to see them. Was the whole city really that empty? Or was it just the slums? Or the side on which Michelle and the rest were at the moment?
Michelle and Ivona didn’t have the time to even say anything to each other when a booming pressure fell on their shoulders, forcing them down. But no one appeared. No one spoke. No presence could be felt.
Nyxaroth wasn’t affected by the pressure, so he flew above the city, in his human form, and scanned it whole with his gaze. But not a single person could be seen. And no suspicious object that could cause pressure was caught by his probing gaze.
That alone was suspicious. Such pressure couldn’t be without a source. The whole city was getting more and more suspicious.
On the ground, Michelle felt like spitting out curses. But she held back and turned to look at Nyxaroth. Using the contract, he then sent the information he had just found to her.
Michelle’s frown deepened. Nothing like that was mentioned in the information she got from the information guild.
Did they not know about it? Or did they withhold it from her?
Both seemed unlikely.
So was it a new occurrence?
