The little black cat stared at Michelle, but it didn’t seem to notice her suffering.

“What was that for?” she asked with a tilt of her head, but she wasn’t really expecting an answer. From how the cat was acting, anyone could tell she didn’t know that her voice carried so much power.

After drinking the elixir Michelle gave them, the two leopards bowed their heads to her slightly. That was quite a high sign of respect in the beast world.

So one of the leopards lay down on the ground so Michelle could climb on his back. Then, the two leopards started running out of the city. They jumped over the city walls and stopped a bit further.

Michelle got off and bowed her head in return. Since the leopards were being respectful to her, she would return the same respect to them.

After dropping off Michelle, the two leopards ran from the city, returning to where they belonged, while Michelle watched them.

When she could no longer see them in the distance, she closed her eyes and contacted Nyxaroth, who was following Ivona so Michelle could contact her and the other way around. “Nyx, how are things on your end?” Michelle asked as she went over to lean on the city wall.

Nyxaroth’s voice was full of annoyance. “We didn’t get a single reliable piece of information. Every single information broker told us something else.” He clearly didn’t like the situation.

Michelle nodded a bit as she listened. “Tell Ivona to come out. I’ve found an information guild which operates all over the lower realm. No need to bother with the small brokers.”

Then, the connection got cut off. Nyxaroth wasn’t the type for small talk, so once he received the order, he didn’t even respond properly and went to carry it out.

While waiting for Nyxaroth and Ivona to come, Michelle thought about how empty the streets were. She would need to ask Ivona about it when she came. Whether the situation on her end was the same.

And the city walls were strangely empty too. When they came to the city, guards were standing atop the walls, but at the moment, no one was around. Not a single reaction came when Michelle leapt over the city walls with the two leopards. And she was expecting a commotion. The whole city was strange.

After a while, a black cloud descended in front of Michelle and Ivona got off. For Nyxaroth to carry Ivona in such an eye-catching way meant he was confident no one was around to see them. Nyxaroth wasn’t affected by the pressure, so he flew above the city, in his human form, and scanned it whole with his gaze. But not a single person could be seen. And no suspicious object that could cause pressure was caught by his probing gaze.

That alone was suspicious. Such pressure couldn’t be without a source. The whole city was getting more and more suspicious.

On the ground, Michelle felt like spitting out curses. But she held back and turned to look at Nyxaroth. Using the contract, he then sent the information he had just found to her.

Michelle’s frown deepened. Nothing like that was mentioned in the information she got from the information guild.

Did they not know about it? Or did they withhold it from her?

Both seemed unlikely.
