Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Do You Like It?
「Yates Group」
“Boss, why don’t you invite me up for a bit?” Kenneth ignored him and got out of the car. Dominic chased after him. “Boss, I have something important to discuss with you.”
They walked into the Yates Group together. Whenever a beautiful woman greeted Dominic, he would smile and wave back.
“This is my company, not a bar,” Kenneth reminded him, but Dominic didn’t tone it down in the slightest.
Inside the office, a secretary brought them coffee. Dominic’s eyes were fixed on her. “Boss, are all your secretaries this beautiful? I’m going to poach her.”
“Get to the point. I’m busy.” Kenneth sat down and started looking over a contract, ignoring his joke.
“Boss, something’s happening over in Euras. Ronan Jenkins sent an email. It seems Carls doesn’t want to work with us anymore. Ronan is stalling them for now, but you should probably go and handle it.” His expression turned calm and serious.
“Tomorrow. You’re coming with me. I’ve had a feeling something was off about Carls for a while now.”
“Also, Boss, what did you mean the other day when you said I was so popular with the ladies?” Dominic walked over to the desk, probing.
“The fact that you’re asking means you already know. Had a good time last night, didn’t you?” Kenneth glanced at him for a second before returning to his documents.
“Boss, how did you know?” Dominic was genuinely impressed by Kenneth. His sharp powers of observation were second to none.
“The scratch on your neck. Dominic, don’t you look in the mirror before you leave the house?” Dominic rushed into the adjoining bedroom to look in the mirror. Sure enough, there was a small scratch. He hadn’t noticed it at all when he left.
“Boss, sharp eyes. I didn’t even see it myself. I should get going. See you tomorrow.” Dominic left, leaving Kenneth all alone. He set down his pen and papers, leaned back in his chair, and an image of Summer Lancaster floated into his mind. ’I wonder what she’s doing at home right now.’ The thought made him smile.
At noon, Summer was eating instant noodles when Kenneth walked in. The sudden entrance startled her, and she nearly choked.
“What are you doing back?”
“Didn’t I tell you not to eat instant noodles? Come on, I’m taking you out to eat.”
“I don’t feel like moving. Can we just order takeout, big boss?” Summer quickly hid her instant noodles, trying to butter Kenneth up.
“Mm-hmm.” Kenneth took off his suit jacket and sat on the sofa.
“Aren’t you supposed to be at work, Boss? It’s not a good look for you to be the one skipping out.”
“It’s my company. I call the shots.” Summer pouted. ’This guy is so unreasonable.’ A short while later, the takeout arrived. After they finished eating, Kenneth still showed no signs of leaving.
“You’re not working this afternoon?”
“Nope. I’m taking you somewhere.” Summer was curious. Where on earth were they going?
The black Bentley sped down the highway. Summer gazed at the scenery outside. There were no residential areas here, only a vast, emerald-green forest. Summer glanced at Kenneth. He was focused on driving, and a focused man seemed to have a special charm. She turned back to the window, suddenly feeling incredibly happy. ’Just like this,’ she thought. ’Please don’t ever change.’
The car stopped in a clearing. Summer got out, savoring the fresh countryside air.
“Are we going on a forest adventure?” Summer asked, looking at Kenneth.
“Are you scared?”
“Not at all. Because you’re here.”
Kenneth smiled and took Summer’s hand, leading her toward the forest. After walking through the woods, Summer’s jaw dropped in astonishment. Before her lay a field of champagne roses. The air was filled with their sweet fragrance. A gentle breeze blew a single petal in front of Summer, and she reached out to catch it.
“Did… did you plant all of these?” This field of roses had to have been cultivated, and up ahead, there was a rustic little wooden cabin.
“Do you like it?”
“I love it.” Summer smiled like a child.
