Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Bloody Gunfight
“Go, now! It’s a trap!” Sean Murphy said urgently.
“What?” Dominic Thorne was stunned. ’They’ve already captured Kenneth Yates. What else could they want?’
Suddenly, a large number of armed troops stormed in, completely encircling them. Meanwhile, they had already lost contact with their own men.
“Damn it!” Dominic Thorne raised his gun, facing them down. But they were heavily outnumbered. The meager strength of just the three of them was likely not enough to fight back. Plus, Kenneth Yates was still in enemy hands.
Seeing this, Kenneth Yates stood up. “Let them go. I’ll go with you.”
“Heh… That will depend on their fate. Fire!”
As the words fell, a hail of bullets erupted. Dominic Thorne and Ronan Jenkins fought desperately to protect the unarmed Sean Murphy.
“This is between you and me. Don’t involve anyone else.” Kenneth Yates’s gaze remained perfectly calm, showing no trace of tension.
“Are you cold-blooded? Shouldn’t you be begging me right about now?”
Kenneth Yates neither looked at him nor spoke. It wasn’t because he was cold-blooded; it was because he trusted Dominic Thorne and Ronan Jenkins.
“I hear you’ve gotten quite close with a woman named Summer Lancaster recently,” Noel Lynch said nonchalantly, fiddling with his fingers.
“Don’t you dare touch her.” Fear finally flickered in his eyes. Summer Lancaster was different; she was utterly defenseless, a lamb waiting for the slaughter.
“Heh, so you can be scared after all. If you’d shown even a tenth of this emotion back then, maybe Thea Shaw would have stayed.”
“Thea? You know where Thea is?” ’Thea… Thea…’ He had to see her.
“I just happened to meet the woman. She told me your story, and I found her quite pitiful.” Noel Lynch knew all along that using Thea Shaw to provoke Kenneth would agitate him and make him fall right into his trap.
Meanwhile, Dominic Thorne and Ronan Jenkins were becoming exhausted. Just then, a gunman took aim at Sean Murphy. Ronan Jenkins saw it and immediately tackled Sean to the ground, but a bullet had already found its mark, blossoming in a brilliant splash of red on Ronan’s back.
“Ronan!” Kenneth Yates snatched a gun from the ground and began firing rapidly.
“Get out of here! I’ll handle this.”
“But, Boss…”
“Go, now!”
’He had to ask Noel Lynch about Thea Shaw. If he really wanted to escape, Noel wouldn’t be able to stop him.’
Dominic Thorne and Sean Murphy left with Ronan Jenkins, leaving the warehouse in shambles. Bright red blood stained nearly the entire floor a shocking crimson.
Once clear, Dominic Thorne frantically dialed Felix Locke. He was their dedicated doctor, and Ronan Jenkins had been shot and needed immediate medical attention.
The atmosphere in the car was colder than ice. Ronan Jenkins was shot, and Kenneth Yates was being held by Noel Lynch—the situation was critical.
Dominic Thorne floored it. In the back seat, Sean Murphy had Ronan Jenkins’s head resting on his lap. “Ronan, don’t fall asleep.” ’Sean truly hadn’t expected Ronan to throw himself in front of a bullet for him at such a critical moment. It was just like when they were children; he had always been there, protecting him like a guardian angel.’
Ronan Jenkins’s consciousness was fading. He placed his hand on Sean Murphy’s and said in a faint voice, “What’s a grown man like you crying for?”
Sean Murphy gripped his hand back. “If you don’t fall asleep, I won’t cry.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t…” Ronan was truly exhausted, so tired that the only relief was to close his eyes…
“Ronan! Ronan!” Sean Murphy’s grip on his hand tightened. He pressed his cheek against Ronan’s, tears streaming down his face. He had never been this heartbroken in his life.
“Sean, he’ll be okay,” Dominic Thorne said, but his own palms were slick with sweat. The future was a complete unknown.
