Chapter 63: Chapter 63: The Missing Memory
“It was Sean Murphy’s last birthday. He left in the middle of it to go pick up Wendy Vaughn. Don’t you dare tell me you forgot. When it comes to him, you remember every little thing!”
’He remembered now. He’d always felt like a piece of his memory from that night was missing. The next morning, he had woken up disheveled in a hotel bed. So that’s what he’d gotten up to that night, huh.’
“Then why didn’t you tell me back then!”
“I was waiting for a situation just like this to happen. All my hard work was for a reason, you know,” Dominic Thorne told him, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
“So what!” Ronan Jenkins said dismissively. Sean Murphy knew he liked him, and so did everyone else. He never shied away from it.
“What do you mean, ’so what’?” Dominic Thorne was exasperated on the other end of the line. ’Is this guy dense?’ “Give him the phone. I’m going to tell him.”
“Don’t you dare tell him!” Ronan Jenkins yelled in a panic.
“Then you’d better give me a full report on tonight’s situation tomorrow!” Dominic Thorne said with a wicked grin. His goal was to provoke Ronan, then sit back and reap the rewards.
“Fine!” Ronan Jenkins said, resigned. He had no choice but to agree. “But don’t you tell anyone else!”
“Okay, I won’t tell anyone else!” As he said this, Felix Locke, who was right next to Dominic Thorne, started shaking with silent, hysterical laughter…
“Isn’t Sean Murphy in the room? He didn’t hear you, did he?”
“He’s in the bathroom.” Ronan Jenkins clearly didn’t want to talk to Dominic Thorne anymore, his reply deliberately curt.
“Oh? How long has he been in there?”
Ronan Jenkins glanced at the time. Sean had indeed been in there for a while—nearly half an hour.
“Why do you have to stick your nose in everything? Don’t you know how annoying you are?”
“Ahem, bro, this is as far as I can help you. You’re a man, you get it, don’t you? Hmm? Your all-powerful right hand!”
“What are you talking about? I’m hanging up!” Ronan Jenkins snapped, furiously ending the call.
’After what Dominic said, he was actually a little curious. What on earth was Sean Murphy doing in the bathroom? Could it really be what Dominic had suggested? No, no.’ He shook his head. ’It couldn’t be…’
But curiosity got the better of him. He got out of bed and walked to the bathroom door. Just then, Sean Murphy opened it and came out. “You… what are you doing here?” Sean looked exhausted and couldn’t meet his eyes.
“You were in there for a long time. I was worried,” Ronan Jenkins said, not feeling awkward at all.
“I’m fine. It’s getting late, we should sleep.” Without waiting for a response, he walked past Ronan and lay down on the bed.
Ronan Jenkins smiled. ’He’s still as adorable as he was when we were kids. I’d already decided not to bother him anymore, but I still want to be near him, just to see him get all flustered. I know perfectly well that the closer I get, the more I’ll be hurt, but I can’t stop myself from trying to get close to him.’
’Things had already come to this. It was best not to force it, but to simply let nature take its course.’
「The next morning」
When Sean Murphy woke up, Ronan Jenkins was gone. After freshening up and leaving his room, he was told that Ronan had left first thing in the morning, and no one knew where he had gone.
The letter Ronan had left behind felt incredibly heavy in his hand, just like his heart.
’Why? Why do I feel so empty right now? I always did my best to avoid him before, so why do I crave his presence so much now!’
Dominic Thorne came downstairs, yawning. “I was looking forward to his report, you know. Didn’t think the guy would actually run off!”
“What report?” Sean Murphy asked as he approached him.
“Fine. Since he broke his promise, I’ll just tell you. At your birthday party last year, he got drunk and mistook me for you. He even kissed me! Hmph, that guy totally took advantage of me…” Dominic Thorne was still rambling on about how aggrieved he was, but Sean Murphy didn’t hear another word.
