Chapter 93: Chapter 93: At Least You Won’t Kiss the Wrong Person
His thoughts drifted to Sean Murphy. Sean hadn’t been staying at the villa lately, only rushing back when Dominic Thorne called. Sometimes, he didn’t know how to respond to Sean’s affection and could only choose to avoid it. If he did, Sean would slowly drift away.
Melody Donovan bumped into Dominic Thorne right at the hospital entrance. “How is she? I rushed over as soon as I got your call!” Melody was panting, having run all the way.
“She’s fine now, don’t worry.” Dominic helped her straighten her messy hair and adjust her crooked clothes.
Melody’s eyes widened in surprise as she looked up at him slightly. “What are you doing?” she asked cautiously.
“Your hair was a mess. There, all better.” Dominic draped her long hair over her shoulders and smiled.
Melody’s face instantly turned bright red. Flustered, she turned her back to him. “Um, if there’s nothing else, I’ll go see Summer Lancaster!” With that, she took a step, ready to leave.
Dominic Thorne grabbed her arm. “The doctor said she needs to rest quietly. You shouldn’t disturb her. I’ll take you home.”
Melody turned back reluctantly, pouting.
Ronan Jenkins, who was standing nearby, seemed to sense the romantic tension between them. “Well, uh, I have something to do, so I’ll be going now!” Ronan scratched his head and left with a mischievous grin.
“What was that look on his face?” Melody asked, watching the man walk away before looking up at Dominic Thorne.
“A punchable one.”
“Huh?”
“Don’t worry about him. Let’s go.”
Neither of them spoke in the car. Melody kept her hands clasped tightly as she gazed out the window, though she was actually watching him from the corner of her eye, not wanting him to know. Dominic Thorne kept one hand on the steering wheel while he lit a cigarette with the other.
“Want to get a drink?” he asked. His tone wasn’t teasing; he was asking her seriously.
Melody turned her head. “It’s late. Do you really think it’s a good idea for a girl to go out drinking?”
“But you’ll be with me.”
“And what good will that do!” Melody said dismissively.
“If I’m there, at least you won’t kiss the wrong person if you get drunk…” Dominic Thorne suddenly leaned closer to her.
Melody, who had been looking out the window, was quite angered by his words. She turned her head, ready to argue with him.
“You think…” Melody froze as she saw him right in front of her, forgetting what she was about to say.
Dominic Thorne gave her a quick peck on the lips, then pulled back with a nonchalant air. “You think what? Hm?”
“You think… you’re so handsome…” Melody realized her blunder. He was so close that her brain had short-circuited, causing her to blurt out what she was really thinking.
“Am I?”
Dominic’s lips curled into a smirk as he sat back and focused on driving. “Yeah. I happen to think I’m pretty handsome myself.”
Melody lowered her head, glaring at him from the side. ’He obviously knew I misspoke, so why would he answer like that? It just makes things more embarrassing for me!’
Dominic smiled as he looked at Melody’s bowed head. ’Teasing her is actually pretty fun.’ Melody occasionally stole a glance at him and found him focused on driving. Reassured, she gradually lifted her head, leaned back against the seat, and dozed off. The scenery outside flew by, but inside the car, a quiet peace settled over them. Dominic turned his head to look at the sleeping woman, then took off his jacket and draped it over her. Melody seemed to sense the movement, grabbing his arm and refusing to let go. She even mumbled a few words in her sleep.
Dominic chuckled, left with no choice but to drive with his free hand.
Melody was sound asleep. Perhaps it was because she was exhausted from the day’s events, or perhaps it was his familiar scent that gave her such a strong sense of security.
