Chapter 131: Not in the manual.
Back on the plane, Liwu sat with her husband, exhaustion etched on her face. She was already worried about what they were going to find at home. Would Manman be in the main house? Would Xifeng still be in the city? She had received dozens of calls from Elder Zhang which she had refused to answer. Nothing good ever came from talking to him.
One of her Cousins, Tai Bocheng had a newborn baby. His wife had given birth last night. They lived in Paris, handling the TFK branch over there. She would need to buy the baby a nice gift and have Uncle Aang deliver it. It was a baby boy. So, her great great grandfather had to weeping somewhere in the sea or ocean somewhere in France.
The thought made her chuckle.
It also made her whip out her phone to take a look at the baby picture she had not clearly observed in the morning. The baby looked pink and slightly wrinkly. It had sharp lips like her uncle Tai Fong.
“Is that the baby?” Weijun stuck his head between her chest and phone.
“How do you know about the baby?” She pushed his head away.
Weijun wondered if he should tell her that Old Tai had called him in the dreadful hours of the morning to complain and told him to hasten up the plan to have a baby girl.
Not that he had such a plan!
Even if he had a baby with Liwu, it would have to be at least two years in future. He intended to enjoy his marriage first for as long as he could.
Accidentally, Liwu scrolled to another picture. It was not of the baby, but a handsome actor one of he sisters-in-law had met and thought would be a good match for her.
“Who is this?”
“Probably a suspect that is under investigation.” she replied hastily, pushing his head away. Technically, he was under investigation, just for different purposes. Like an expert, she switched the subject, “I heard the cotton candy company is being launched today. Xixi has gone all out. She invited top of the line celebrities to sing, influencers….”
Weijun’s head suddenly collapsed on her shoulder. “Don’t get me started on your sister’s extravagant marketing. She made Cross steal a guest list of all the men and women that attended the chamber of commerce dinner. They have been calling my phones non stop because they want to know what role I am playing in the company.”
Liwu tried to push his head away but Weijun just kept putting it back.
“Do you and He Xiao Yi often play good cop, bad cop?” he asked curiously.
“Sometimes, its bad cop, bad cop.”
Weijun touched her fingers, eyeing her simple nails. They were short, neat and colored light pink. All of his secretaries had nails longer than this. As for Manman, sometimes, her nails could be compared to claws in terms of sharpness.
It was easy to walk by a woman like his wife in the street, mistaking her simpleness for poverty or mediocrity. Only those with bright eyes would recognize that her clothes which appeared to be ordinary because they lacked brand logos cost a lot more than branded clothes.
She was like a hidden gem. Only after keeping it at your side and wiping away the dust would one find the sparkle.
“Hey Liwu, you won’t believe this but Luo Zhuge is out of prison.” Linlin shouted, undoing her seat belt. She walked to the back and sat down in front of the couple. She looked at Weijun and added, “He is a jewelry thief that broke into TFK successfully three times. You won’t believe how we caught him.”
Weijun smiled faintly. He could tell when a funny story was coming.
Majesty leaped out of his chair, “This guy had a system, he was slick and slippery. They had been chasing him for a year. This guy was faster than the wind.”
Liwu rolled her eyes but couldn’t suppress a grin. “Don’t exaggerate.”
Weijun raised his head and leaned forward, even more intrigued. “Tell me everything.”
“Yes! finally, someone I can talk to.” Linlin declared. “I had almost arrested him before and our fingers brushed so I knew where he would be going. So, we beat him to his apartment. He was a smart thief but an idiot when it came to home security. The fool didn’t even have a security camera. Anyway, he opens the door and there we are, with weapons.”
Majesty chimed in, “Now this guy could jump like a monkey and walk on walls. He was just about to unleash his moves when—” He paused for effect. “His air conditioner malfunctioned and a gust of wind blew up Liwu’s top.”
Weijun groaned. “No….”
“Oh yes.” Linlin laughed. “Luo Zhuge froze. Liwu’s bra just happened to have ripped earlier so she had taken it off. Zhuge was so startled he tripped over his own feet. Bam! He went down. I put handcuffs on him. The idiot had a nose bleed as we marched him out to the squad car.”
Weijun laughed. “Oh no! That sounds like a disaster. Did you have to include it in your report?”
Linlin nodded solemnly. “We did. When taking down a system host, we must specify how we did it because it serves as teaching material at the police university. That incident is used an example on ’most desperate tactical weapons.’ It is under ’special ops.”
Weijun chuckled, shaking his head. “This can’t be real!”
He Xiao Yi came by with small platters of fruits that he handed out. Liwu jabbed a fork into a grape. “Can we not discuss one of my most humiliating moments on the force?”
Linlin leaned back, enjoying herself. “You should have seen President Alix’s face later when we explained how we got him. She thought we were joking but a spy drone in the hallway had captured everything. She watched it, and then shouted to Liwu, “What were you thinking? This is not in the manual.”
All the detectives laughed. Chief Abby shook his head and closed his eyes.
Liwu sighed, but her lips betrayed her with a smile. “Fine. Laugh it up. But remember–justice was served.”
Xuanji loudly shouted. “And a week later, you were served with a lawsuit for sexual harassment.”
Weijun gasped again. “I want to hear more stories like this. Your job sounds much more adventurous than mine.”
Majesty lifted his neck. “I have one, and after this one, you will never look at the weather report in winter the same way. The story involves a penguin that mastered the art of slapping and its hostage, Tai Liwu, who slipped and fell into its burrow.”
Weijun squealed in a very unmanly manner. “You were slapped by a penguin! Oh, this is awesome. I want to know everything.”
Laughter filled the plane and Liwu moaned for her image.
