Chapter 152: Liwu’s vacation plans.
When they stepped out of the house, her mother-in-law was waiting. Madam Xu was shocked to see the cases and the floral design shirt her son was wearing. Not just the shirt but shorts and slippers!
“What is this?” she asked sharply. “Are you giving up being a mayor for….” She didn’t know what to make of the new profession he would join, basing on the outfit. “A beach bum?”
Liwu guffawed.
Weijun rolled his eyes. “We are going on a honeymoon mother.”
Madam Xu gasped. “Are you two crazy? A honeymoon! In the midst of this storm. Absolutely not. I need Liwu to use her bad luck and make Manman go away. I called her and personally requested that she take the post down and have the necklace auctioned off and then use the funds for charity. That crazy fish said no.”
She was so frustrated, and it showed on her face.
Liwu looked at the watch. “Mother-in-law, I pity your plight, truly I do. But, I have a work thing to get to. It is not a honeymoon trip like Weijun is saying. We will be back in three days, it won’t be too late to deal with Manman then.”
Madam Xu looked unwilling and she wanted to say no. But, she also knew that Liwu was only required to travel for the serious cases. So, she couldn’t keep her back. “Where are you going this time?”
“Austria.” Weijun’s nostrils twitched. “It is a classified mission however so we can’t say anything else. You are going to have to hold down the fort for a while, until I return. It will be better if Kaiwen goes to work at the company in Weifeng’s place until this matter dies down. If there is something you need, talk to Mo Xia.”
Madam Xu frowned at her son. “I understand why Liwu is going, but what about you? You are not a detective.”
Weijun pulled his suitcase closer. “I am her partner, my mother-in-law asked me to keep an eyes on her.” He gestured at Liwu with his thumb. “And we are late.” He leaned forward and gave her a brief hug.
For Liwu, it was madam Xu that initiated the hug. And then, they were off to the airport, to join the team and the rest of the delegation setting off for the training seminar.
It was like a reunion for the team members and the officers from other branches of the SOB that they had not seen in months or years. They were all carrying themselves with stiff pride of law enforcement Professionals. Weijun blended in with them perfectly.
On the plane, Liwu settled into her seat beside the window. Weijun settled next to her, excitement evident on his face. He leaned closer, lowering his voice. “You know, now that we are about to take off, I am kind of worried. What if the person we are chasing already knows that we are coming? What if they are working with one of these officers and they are already watching our team?
She tilted her head, studying him. “You worry too much.”
“I worry exactly enough, my dear,” he countered. “Think about it, whoever did this is probably a double agent. They will be expecting the secret of the fake voice to leak. They should also be expecting an investigation to follow. So, what are the odds that one of the SOB’s best teams suddenly shows up in the embassy to sniff around?”
“With my bad luck, what do we have to worry about?” She countered. “You came along knowing the risks. Now, it is too late to jump off the plane.”
“This reminds me of the day we married.” He sighed, running a hand through his hair.
She smirked. “The dangerous bride you never wanted because her bad luck would bring your city to its knees. The future was unpredictable.” She whispered as if they were conspiring, “How am I doing on that front by the way? Has the city fallen because of me?”
Weijun made a ’tch’ sound.
She softened, her hand brushing his. “When this is over, we’ll take those two days. Just is. No suspects, no deadlines. Europe will be ours.”
He chuckled. “You promise?”
“As much as I can promise anything in this line of work.”
Weijun took a small notebook out of his pocket, “I was hoping you would make such a promise. I already planned our itinerary for Thursday and Friday. We will take a private helicopter, this will make it easy to visit three countries in a single day. From Vienna, Salzburg…mmm…there is a castle tour here.”
Liwu cut him off with a glare. “How many of these castles are you planning to visit? I don’t want to spend two days listening to the history of king this or prince that and how they tragically died due to decapitation. Keep in mind that this is a honeymoon vacation. Two days of sex and fun.”
The notebook fell out of Weijun’s hands.
Liwu leaned her head back and closed her eyes, a smug, satisfied smile on her face.
Weijun gulped and turned his head to his wife. She was pretending to be asleep after saying something like that. “Liwu,” he called her name, in a whisper. “Don’t sleep, you have to explain what you mean. What do you mean by sex?”
Liwu made a snoring sound, as if she was deep asleep.
Weijun still shook her, “Liwu, nobody falls asleep in the snap of a finger. Open your eyes and look at me. Do you mean what you said?”
She made the same sound, keeping her eyes closed.
After ten minutes of trying with no results, Weijun gave up. As for Liwu, she actually slept off, for real. This left the sleepless mayor to order for a beer that would help calm his nerves. He was unprepared for that kind of union! He had not brought any kind of protection.
He was not going to fall prey to the quintuplet chaos of the Tai and Zhang families!
