Chapter 22: Sweet Rose.
Shen manor was vibrating from the chaos–dogs barking, a cat hissing, servants racing, phones ringing. But the most entertaining activity was Shen Weijun, hauling Tai Liwu away as if she were sack of rice.
Tai Liwu squealed, swinging her chopsticks defiantly. “Put me down! I am warning you, I am a trained police officer. If you were any other criminal, you would be on the floor by now, bleeding to death with a chopstick in your neck.”
Weijun said nothing. He strode past stunned servants, wide-eyed butlers and ignored gossipy siblings that followed him from a distance. The household had seen many things, but never the dignified second master Weifeng hauling off a woman like a misbehaving child.
And those who knew that it was Weijun were even more stunned. Since when did the master of the city become willing to be so close to another woman other than Manman? He had spanked Tai Liwu! In public!
“You have five seconds to stop this abuse of my dignity or else!” Liwu wriggled furiously.
“And you have five seconds to stop hurting my sanity or else!” he shot back. “Don’t think U don’t see what’s happening Every disaster tonight was calculated–every spill, every collapse, it all started after someone said something negative about you.”
Liwu gasped dramatically. “Really” I did not notice and I am innocent. I am simply a magnet for fortune, but you already knew that when you married me. Blame the universe. Blame the chandelier, blame the soup, blame the duck bone, blame the cat, blame the maid–but don’t blame me!”
Weijun put her down on the ground and his hand landed squarely on her backside again. Liwu froze, then rubbed her butt with exaggerated rubbing movements. “This is harassment!” she cried, “How dare you touch my butt in public? Wait, they are witnesses, so I can arrest you.” She looked around, discovering every peeking eye that was in plain view or hidden. “You all saw that, right? He spanked me against my will.”
Weijun’s face turned crimson. “I did not!” He looked around, raising his voice, “I did not harass her and if any of you says otherwise, you are fired. Now stop gawking. Haven’t you seen a couple fight before?”
“Oh my God!” one of his brothers exclaimed. “Who is he? This is not my man of fury and wrath brother.”
“Oh, so now you are threatening the witnesses?” Liwu put her hands on her waist. “I am getting my handcuffs.” She lifted her dress slightly and took the handcuffs from a strap around her thigh.
Weijun was astounded. She had a gun and handcuffs strapped to her thigh all through the disastrous dinner!! The strapless dress was clearly meant to fool her enemies.
The servants Weijun had dismissed had not only remained in place, but they had doubled. Not only were they gawking, but they were whispering too.
“She just accused him of spanking.”
“Not spanking, harassment.”
“Have you heard about the chaos during dinner? A bone from her mouth entered Madam Shen Biao’s mouth. Someone has it on video.”
“Does anyone have the spanking on video? I missed it!”
Meanwhile, Liwu was swinging the handcuffs and reading Weijun his rights. She stopped when the sound of laughter came from his mouth. “You are laughing. And your face is red Are you blushing! Aha, only guilty men blush.”
“I am not blushing!” Weijun barked, turning his face away.
“Oh, but you are.” Liwu insisted. “You are red as a tomato. Or perhaps spilled wine. So, you not only enjoy spanking me, but you also enjoyed carrying me here. Maybe you even enjoyed my chaos.”
Weijun rolled his eyes. “Are you hearing yourself? Your misfortunes nearly burned my mother’s face off!”
“That was not me, that was the sweet red bean soup. Maybe the beans were protesting.” She folded the handcuffs and breathed in deeply before looking at him, calm as a sea on a good day. “You know what, I won’t argue with you. I did not get to eat my dessert and that coconut cake looked yummy. I will be in the dining room with your mother.”
She darted past him, toward the side entrance from the courtyard.
“Get back here!” he shouted, chasing after her.
The servants and his brothers gasped as the dignified master sprinted after his wife like a schoolboy chasing after a ball. Liwu zigzagged through the courtyard, dress flying, laughing like a manic.
To everyone’s shock, Weijun laughed! He lunged, stumbled and nearly collided with a lion cub statue.
“Stop running!” he growled.
“Stop chasing!” Liwu sang back. “You are in a luxury suit for crying out loud, you look ridiculous.”
The Shen siblings leaned against the doorway, incredibly stunned. “Have you ever seen him running like that?” One whispered.
“Yes, only in real fights against Bureau hosts. Not for pleasure.”
“Is this pleasure? He laughed once and now he is scowling.”
“He looks like he is chasing a chicken.”
Liwu darted behind a tree, peeking out with a mischievous grin. “Catch me if you can, Mr. Rose. From now on, I am calling you Rose.”
Weijun lunged again, finally grabbing her wrist. “If you call me Rose, I will drown you in a well.”
Liwu spun dramatically, collapsing into his arms as if fainting. “Oh no, drowned in a well, how medieval of you! But now that you have caught me, sweet Rose, what do you plan to do?”
Weijun clenched his jaw, trying to look stern, but his ears betrayed him–bright red.
Liwu poked his chest. “Oh my! blushing again? No wonder you are a ladies’ man; I can see the attraction. Somehow, you are innocent and wild at the same time.” She poked his chest.
Weijun released her abruptly, striding off with stiff dignity. “I refuse to waste my energy and breath on your nonsense. Stay away from my mother.”
Liwu called after him, voice dripping with mock sweetness. “Don’t walk too fast, sweet Rose. Your blush might catch fire in the cold night air!”
He stiffened, shoulders tense but didn’t turn back.
The servants whispered furiously. “Did she just call him sweet rose?”
“She totally teased him and he just walked away.”
“Unbelievable. He is always the one doing the teasing, I never thought he would be shy.”
Liwu dusted her hands, triumphant. She had won round two against a united force of his mother and aunt. “Well, that was fun. System, tally my points.”
[676 POINTS.]
Liwu clapped her hands. “New record or first record!” She jumped up for joy, screaming excitedly.
Weijun, halfway across the courtyard looked back once and muttered under his breath. “She’s insane.”
But his ears still burned red.
A red, that made his aunt Shen Biao clench her fists, from the window of the dining room where she was peeking. “Not on my watch.” she whispered.
