Chapter 133: Fickle men.
Liwu was determined to make him come to his senses. If things continued like this, the family would become divided sooner or later. She followed after him, “She is bad for you.”
Weifeng turned around and said, “You’re wrong. She loves me. She is good for me. And if you can’t accept that, then you are the problem.”
Liwu’s shoulders sagged, though her gaze remained steady. “If believing that keeps you at peace, then believe it. But don’t say I didn’t warn you. When her mask slips, and it will, remember this conversation.”
Weifeng pushed the small gate open and walked through it, his anger shielding him from doubt. All he wanted was to stop her from intervening in his relationship and bothering Manman.
He hesitated for a second and looked back. When he saw Liwu standing there, as steady as a pillar, he seemed to become even more irritated. What gave her the right to judge others? Indeed, like all the other daughters of wealthy families, she just thought she was better than Manman.
Well, from now on, he would protect his girlfriend. She would never be bullied in his house. If Liwu did not understand, then he would talk to his brother. Weijun would be the one to make his wife understand.
Liwu didn’t move. She stood in silence, her heart heavy. She had not wanted to say all that to him but he had come out swinging so she had responded in kind.
“It won’t work.” Cross said, walking up to Liwu. He stood next to her, with a five page brochure that had images of cotton candy and other related products. “You can’t undo years of training in a single night. Manman trained Weifeng like a dog. You need time and a stick to make him unlearn what she taught him.”
Liwu scoffed. “How does a man with dozens of ex-girlfriends end up being played by an untalented actress? Is it because of her beauty?”
“That is part of it.” Cross tilted his head. “There is also the fact that she saved his life twice. They have been through some things together, survival and escape kind of moments. If his love for her did not waver when Weijun was involved, what makes you think that it will waver now that he is finally dating her?”
Liwu sighed. “I guess I was thinking too simply.”
Cross held the brochure out to her. “Tomorrow, 10 AM. We pushed this event because of you. I don’t care if there are ten dead bodies lined up outside your precinct, make sure that you attend. This is your business and Xixi worked hard on it. You know how fragile she is and I don’t want her to cry because she does not feel supported.”
Liwu lips rose in amusement. Cross did not know her sister well enough just yet. The tears could be deceitful. When she was not being foolish in love, Xixi was a ruthless business woman. She was probably going to control 50% of the candy related business in this city by the time the year ended.
“You seem to be spending a lot of time with my sister.” she tilted her head and looked at him curiously. “Is there something I should know?”
Cross smirked. “Just that in one year, you will be calling me brother-in-law. I am going to marry that woman, mark my words.” He turned and waled off, leaving Liwu to blink in confusion.
Silly Xixi was probably thinking that Cross was just being helpful. She wondered if she needed to give her mother or Xixi a heads up. If he was a bad man, the sooner they stopped him from approaching Xixi, the better.
Liwu turned and entered the house. Butler Chen was there, waiting for her in the entrance. “Tell me something uncle Chen, are most men fickle?”
“I don’t know, young miss. You are the detective, so you must know better than I do.” He answered. “Will you be going straight to bed, like the young master Weijun or should I tell the cook to prepare a late lunch?”
She considered it for a moment, but her body felt heavy. Sleep mattered more than food. She had eaten some fruits on the plane anyway. “Have someone bring me a cup of chamomile tea in the bathroom. No food, I am going to rest for a while.”
Weijun was already asleep, when she reached the bedroom. He had changed into a bathrobe, it seemed like he had taken a shower. She moved carefully, not to wake him up and made her way to the bathroom.
While she showered, she thought about Manman. Her detective’s instincts gnawed at her. Manman’s behavior, her tears, her smile, her deliberate words, the subtle digs–it was all too familiar. She had women like her before, in cases where manipulation turned deadly. She knew Weifeng was blind, but blindness could be dangerous.
The bell inside he bathroom rung. She pushed a button and then the bathroom door was opened. A maid brought the tea she had requested for, placing it on the partition where Liwu’s phone was sitting, playing an old spy movie. The partition was in the part of the tub nearest to Liwu’s chest.
Her body was covered obstructed by large foam, as if she was bathing in a cloud.
“Do you need anything else, young miss?” The maid asked.
Liwu waved her hand, gesturing that she didn’t. She was more interested in the movie because a female spy was being assigned a mission. She was to enter a family and cause fractures on the inside which would lead to the dismantlement of the gang which the family led.
Suddenly, a bulb lit up in her mind. Could Manman’s insistence on rotating between the two brothers be something like this? Could she be a spy? It was no doubt that her appearance had caused frictions between Weifeng and Weijun.
If she was doing all this deliberately, was it a carefully planned scheme? If so, who was the beneficiary?
