Chapter 145: Chapter 145: Snow Jumping
“Then he said we could be in a relationship, a proper one.” Lynn Jennings laughed. “When am I ever *not* in a proper relationship? I’m not a mistress or a side piece. The men I date are all single and unattached. What’s not proper about that? But Cyrus Sheridan… we’re compatible in bed, so I told him we could be friends with benefits. If he wants a serious girlfriend, he should look for someone else and stop trying to pin me down.”
Jessie Sterling couldn’t help but give her a thumbs-up. “The queen of players, as expected.”
Lynn Jennings’s brow furrowed. “It’s consensual. How is that being a player?”
Jessie Sterling found herself thinking Lynn had a point and couldn’t find a reason to argue.
“Besides, I’m not after his money, and I’m not deceiving him for sex. I’m always upfront about everything,” Lynn said. “Just because he wants to get married and be in a relationship doesn’t mean I have to go along with it, right? That’s definitely not happening.”
She only listened to herself. She alone would decide the major events of her life. No one else could interfere. Not a chance.
“So, he agreed to it now?” Jessie Sterling asked.
Lynn Jennings replied, “Would he have come with us if he didn’t?”
Jessie Sterling was impressed.
Since quite a few people had joined this time, Victor Morgan went ahead and booked two villas. There were plenty of rooms, so everyone could choose freely.
The moment she stepped off the plane, Jessie Sterling shivered from the cold air of The Aridlands.
She breathed out, and a puff of white mist instantly formed in front of her.
“From Finland to The Aridlands… In all my life, I’ve never had a year where I had to rough it out like this.” After getting off the plane, Lynn Jennings couldn’t help but stomp her feet on the ground.
Coming from Southaven, the temperature difference was a bit much.
“But aren’t we here to ski?” Jessie Sterling stubbornly refused to admit she had chosen the wrong place for the New Year.
After landing, the group first went to have lunch at two o’clock.
Fortunately, the restaurants were still open at this hour. There was fragrant lamb pilaf and steaming hot, milky-white lamb soup that smelled so savory you could almost taste it.
After eating, everyone finally felt like they had come back to life.
The snow conditions weren’t great at this time of day. If they went skiing, the resort slopes would probably be all torn up by carving enthusiasts.
So, everyone decided to go play in the fresh powder outside first.
The bold and skilled ones, of course, dared to ski in the backcountry. But someone like Jessie Sterling, whose skills were mediocre at best, was strictly forbidden.
The little kitty could just play in the snow outside. She could find a soft snowdrift and jump into it from a roof.
There were lots of funny videos like that online, with a group of people taking turns jumping down.
Jessie Sterling dragged Victor Morgan to play with her. When Victor saw the video Jessie showed him on her phone, hearing the excited “AWOO-AWOO” sounds from within, he turned to look at the clearly eager and expectant Jessie beside him and couldn’t help but ask, “What’s the difference between this and a bunch of huskies?”
A group of people jumping into the snow really did look like a pack of silly dogs.
Jessie Sterling immediately glared at him.
Receiving a death glare from his wife, Victor Morgan said, “I’ll film you guys. You can shoot for as long as you want.”
Only then was Jessie Sterling satisfied. “You’re not going to join in?”
Victor Morgan gave a reserved smile. “If I join in, who will take the pictures? Don’t you like those videos with camera movement? A phone tripod alone might not get the effect you want.”
Ever since they got married, Victor Morgan had been picking up photography skills.
He had no choice. To take good pictures of his wife, just being good at making money clearly wasn’t enough to keep her happy.
Jessie Sterling thought for a moment, nodded, and stuffed her phone and camera into Victor Morgan’s hands. Then she ran towards a nearby ladder. “Make sure you get my good side!”
Victor Morgan breathed a sigh of relief.
That evening, the group went to a log cabin to eat whole roasted lamb.
Jessie Sterling was looking at the photos and videos she had imported to her phone. Victor Morgan’s photography skills had improved by leaps and bounds over the past few months. She couldn’t help but nod repeatedly, picking out photos with Lynn Jennings beside her.
Victor Morgan called out to her. Seeing that she just gave a casual “mm-hmm” and showed no intention of eating, he took her bowl and plate and sliced a good amount of lamb onto it for her.
“Eat while you look,” Victor Morgan said, having cut the lamb into small, bite-sized pieces for Jessie Sterling.
Jessie Sterling, completely engrossed in the photos, answered perfunctorily, “I know, I know. You’re such a nag.”
The person who had just been called a nag was speechless. “…”
Xavier Warren, sitting nearby, overheard the couple’s conversation and almost burst out laughing.
He never expected this was Victor Morgan’s standing with his own wife.
’A marriage of convenience, they said? And they weren’t close?’
He’d thought his buddy had a bit of a temper last time, but looking at him now, Xavier Warren just shook his head.
However, when he looked at Jessie Sterling again, his gaze turned a bit more serious.
Quincy Sterling was sitting across from Jessie Sterling. She finished her meal first and picked up her phone to scroll through her feed.
A moment later, Quincy Sterling looked up at Jessie Sterling opposite her and said, “You’re so dead.”
Jessie Sterling was still picking out videos with Lynn Jennings. She had only posted a nine-photo grid earlier, which of course wasn’t enough. She still had so many videos of them jumping into the snow from today.
Suddenly hearing Quincy Sterling’s words, she looked up, a hint of confusion in her eyes. “What did I do?”
“Brianna Hudson saw the post you just made. She left a comment asking where you are and said she’s thinking of coming over,” Quincy Sterling said.
Jessie Sterling: “???”
She quickly opened her phone. Sure enough, Brianna Hudson’s name was there, under the photos she had posted earlier.
[Brianna Hudson: That’s so much snow! Where are you guys? I don’t have much going on for the New Year, maybe I could come hang out.]
Jessie Sterling looked at Lynn Jennings beside her and voiced her confusion. “Are we that close?”
Since when were they close enough to spend the Lunar New Year together?
Lynn Jennings thought for a moment. “Maybe it was because she asked you for that favor last time? The one about adding Cheryl Stuart?”
Jessie Sterling: “…”
Brianna Hudson had already put it out there. Besides, anyone could see from the photos that they were in a large group. Even if Jessie turned her down, Brianna could still find out their location from someone else.
Jessie Sterling decided to just open her chat with Brianna Hudson and send her the location directly.
[Brianna Hudson: I’ll fly over tonight.]
Jessie Sterling looked up. “She says she’s coming over tonight.”
“Who?” Serena Lynch asked curiously.
“Brianna Hudson, from the Hudson family in Port Caldoria,” Jessie Sterling explained.
Serena Lynch didn’t know her, but seeing the expressions on Jessie Sterling and the others, she asked, “What’s wrong? Isn’t she a friend of yours?”
Jessie Sterling thought for a moment. “We’re acquaintances, I guess. And I won some Sanctum shares from her before.”
“Whoa!” Serena Lynch exclaimed. “So generous!” Her eyes lit up, and she looked eager. “So, when she gets here tomorrow, will she be up for another bet?”
The words ’I want in’ were practically written on her face.
It didn’t matter if they were friends or not. As long as someone was willing to bet that big, she was welcome.
Who doesn’t like free money?
Jessie Sterling: “…”
Brianna Hudson probably wouldn’t be making any more bets with anyone for the rest of her life.
The next day, when Jessie Sterling walked out with her snowboard, she saw Brianna Hudson and the people with her, and her eyebrows shot up.
’What are *these* people doing together?’
