Chapter 160: Chapter 160: “You Bastard!
Victor Morgan understood what she was saying almost instantly. He rested his palm on the back of Jessie Sterling’s head, her hair tickling his skin.
“I thought you didn’t like the idea,” Victor asked. “You don’t have to force yourself.”
“Then what about our parents?” Jessie asked.
“I’ll handle them,” Victor said.
Jessie fell silent for a moment before speaking again. “I’m scared of the pain.”
’She wasn’t ready at all. Becoming a mother felt like truly entering a whole new stage of life.’
Victor chuckled. “It won’t be too late to discuss this when you actually want to have kids, will it? Telling yourself you’re scared of the pain now is just putting needless pressure on yourself, don’t you think?”
Jessie pursed her lips and poked Victor’s chest again. “You always know just what to say!” she huffed. “But who knows if you really mean it.”
Victor was ready to cry foul. He’d already conceded as much as he could, but his wife still didn’t believe him. What else could he do?
“Want me to take it out so you can have a look?”
As he said this, Victor reached for the buttons on his shirt.
Jessie slapped his hand away. “Pervert!” she said, her ears turning red.
Victor: “…”
But a second later, Jessie’s hand suddenly shot out, replacing his own, and started to unbutton his shirt.
Just as Victor was starting to feel bewildered, Jessie’s voice reached his ears.
“But now that I think about it, maybe you have a point. I need to check for myself whether you’re being sincere. See what’s really on your mind.” With that, Jessie bit down hard on Victor’s chest.
The bite sent a brief, sharp sting through Victor, but it was quickly replaced by an indescribable, tingling itch.
The room was pitch-black, and darkness was the perfect breeding ground for a different sort of passion.
For a man already simmering with frustration, tonight would only be more intense—an act of release, and even more, an act of pleading.
The box in the nightstand was empty. Victor gave the woman in his arms a long, deep look before finally stopping.
He switched on the room’s ventilation system to air out the heavy, lingering scent of their lovemaking.
Otherwise, Victor worried that the room would still be filled with that distinct aroma in the morning. If Jessie noticed, she might be reminded of her own abandon from the night before. Her throwing a little fit would be one thing, but if she banned him from the bed for a few days? That would be a major crisis.
But Victor was being naive.
With all the red marks he had left on Jessie’s body, as if clearing the air could ever make her forget his actions from that night.
The next day, when Jessie woke up, the slightest movement made her curse Victor’s name internally.
’Every single part of her body ached.’
When she sat up and saw that even her wrists were covered in a dense constellation of hickeys, her ears flushed crimson in an instant.
Standing before the full-length mirror, Jessie’s flushed face nearly darkened with rage.
’That man must be part dog!’
Looking at the marks on her neck and chest, Jessie clenched her fists.
’Unfortunately, Victor wasn’t in the room. She had no idea where he’d gone, so she couldn’t even find a target for her temper.’
After getting ready, Jessie slowly took the elevator downstairs.
As she reached the living room, she heard Victor’s voice. He seemed to be sharing a laugh with Director Sterling.
The moment Jessie stepped out of the elevator, she was intercepted by Mrs. Sterling, who was sitting on the sofa.
“Were you out too late last night? Why are you up so late?” Mrs. Sterling asked, walking over to her.
A look of confusion crossed Jessie’s face. She glanced at the grandfather clock in the living room—it was just past ten. Compared to her usual routine, this was still quite early.
’Her mother had never given her a hard time about waking up late before.’
“Just look at Young Morgan. He was up bright and early to make breakfast himself, and your father couldn’t stop singing its praises. And then there’s you. How can you be so lazy? You have a job now, don’t you? Are you always like this when you go to the office?” Mrs. Sterling rambled on.
Upon hearing this, Jessie instantly understood the reason for this morning’s lecture.
The next second, Jessie whipped her head around, her glare like a volley of daggers shooting toward the man still standing by the kitchen island.
’So that’s what this was about. A comparison.’
Even though Victor was chatting with Director Sterling, the moment Jessie stepped out of the elevator, his attention was almost entirely on her.
He had heard the exchange between his mother-in-law and his wife. So, when Jessie’s dagger-like stare landed on him, Victor quickly interjected, “She was exhausted yesterday. She went to see a friend and then got dragged to a party last night, that’s why she’s up a little late. Back in Aethelburg, Jessie rarely sleeps in.”
Mrs. Sterling hadn’t really meant to criticize Jessie for waking up late. It was just that her son-in-law was visiting, and not only did he wake up early, he even made breakfast for the entire family. The contrast made Jessie seem a little inconsiderate.
A smile spread across Mrs. Sterling’s face when she heard Victor defending her daughter.
“You spoil her too much,” Mrs. Sterling said.
“As I should,” Victor replied.
’She’s my wife. Isn’t it my job to spoil her?’
But Jessie, hearing his words, interpreted them in a completely different way.
’Jessie certainly didn’t think Victor was being humble. Wasn’t this exactly what he was supposed to do?’
’Besides, she *was* exhausted yesterday, but definitely not for the reasons Victor had just given.’
’Did he really not know why she woke up so late? He was totally putting on an act!’
The kitchen in this part of the house couldn’t compare to the one in the separate dining building, but it was still quite large.
Jessie walked over to the island. Seeing that she had just woken up, Victor started frying a fresh egg for her and poured her a glass of milk.
“Here, drink this,” Victor said.
Standing beside him, Jessie tore off a small piece of bread. Hidden from view, her foot shot out and kicked Victor squarely in the shin.
“Such an act,” she hissed.
Victor didn’t move, letting Jessie kick him. It didn’t hurt much, anyway, and it wasn’t a bad thing if it let his wife blow off some steam.
“What else would you like to eat?” Victor asked in a soft, good-natured tone, as if he hadn’t heard her accusation at all.
“I’ll eat you!” Jessie said resentfully. The way she bit into her bread made it look like she was tearing into Victor himself, the corners of her eyes still tinged with red.
Hearing this, Victor froze. Then, he turned his head and gave Jessie a knowing smirk, his eyes full of meaning.
By the time Jessie realized what Victor’s look implied, she was suddenly unsure whether she should drink the milk in her hand.
“You’re such an ass!” Jessie muttered, grabbing her plate and quickly fleeing the kitchen—that den of iniquity.
Behind her, Victor’s laughter followed.
