Chapter 189: "The Lady Boss Is Here!
Chapter 189: Chapter 189: “The Lady Boss Is Here!
“Mrs. Morgan?” Keegan Sanders had just returned from dinner when he spotted a familiar figure standing at the company’s front desk.
He could hardly believe his eyes. He took a couple of steps closer, and it was only when he saw Jessie Sterling’s profile that he exclaimed in surprise.
Having been by President Morgan’s side for many years, Keegan knew just how much influence Jessie had on Victor Morgan. The boss’s wife had married his own boss in what was supposedly a strategic alliance, but her place in his heart seemed to be far more than just a means to placate their families.
Therefore, Jessie’s importance shot to the very top of Keegan’s priority list.
When Jessie heard the voice, she turned around, a hint of pleasant surprise in her eyes.
“Assistant Sanders!”
She put down her phone and thought with a smirk, ’Looks like Victor Morgan got lucky!’
Keegan had already strode over. “Mrs. Morgan, why didn’t you let us know you were coming? Does President Morgan know?”
Jessie shook her head. She was about to pick up the wooden thermal lunch box from the reception desk, but Keegan, ever observant, proactively grabbed it before she could.
Jessie smiled and, this time, didn’t refuse his help.
“He said he wouldn’t be home for dinner tonight, so I figured I’d just bring him something to eat,” Jessie said.
Hearing this, Keegan was suddenly reminded of a short while ago, when he’d found his boss sitting at his desk, staring blankly at a document.
’So, was he thinking about his wife back then?’
No wonder the boss said he wasn’t eating when Keegan asked him what he wanted for dinner later.
It was because the boss’s wife was coming to bring him food.
As for what Jessie had just said about “Victor Morgan not knowing she was coming,” Keegan subconsciously ignored it.
Keegan led Jessie to the elevator and swiped his card. Once they were in the enclosed space, he realized just how rich the aroma from the lunch box was.
Suddenly, Keegan felt like his own dinner had been rather pathetic. Otherwise, why did he feel like he could still eat a little more right now?
After Keegan and Jessie’s figures disappeared into the elevator, the two young women at the front desk stared at each other, speechless for a long moment.
A moment later—
“Bao, I didn’t mishear that, did I?”
“Mishear what?”
“Assistant Sanders called that young lady ’Mrs. Morgan’… Does that mean what I think it means?”
“What do you think? Who else would Assistant Sanders call ’Mrs. Morgan’? It can’t be Mr. Chapman’s…”
“So…”
“Exactly… It’s just what you’re thinking!”
Although they deliberately kept their voices low, they couldn’t conceal the excitement bubbling in their tone.
This was big news!
You have to understand, back before President Morgan was married, he had the legal department sue a whole bunch of foul-mouthed netizens on behalf of his future wife.
Then, soon after, the boss had his grand wedding, but not a single photo of the bride was leaked, sparking immense curiosity throughout the entire company.
“Are we the first people to see the boss’s wife in person?!”
The two receptionists exchanged an excited glance before quickly opening the company’s private gossip chat to share the news.
“Attention everyone, the boss’s wife has been spotted! Wow! She’s absolutely gorgeous in person! Super beautiful! No wonder President Morgan has been hiding her away from us, hahaha.”
“??? Where? Where?”
“At the office.”
“Ahhh, I didn’t work overtime today, I missed it.”
“I’m working overtime today, but I’m still in my office. Is the boss’s wife still in the lobby? If she is, I’m coming down right now!”
“Me too! Already at the elevator, hahaha.”
“…Ahem, Assistant Sanders already took her upstairs. You probably missed your chance.”
As soon as that message was sent, the chat was filled with a chorus of wails and regrets.
Jessie, however, had no idea that her appearance had already attracted so much attention in a private chat group at Victor Morgan’s company.
She followed Keegan to Victor Morgan’s floor. Since it was a late night of work, only Keegan was left; the secretarial staff had pretty much all gone home, leaving the floor very quiet.
Keegan had no intention of being a third wheel. Besides, his boss hadn’t eaten yet, and he certainly wasn’t going to interrupt the boss and his wife’s dinner.
“President Morgan’s office is over there.” Keegan pointed to the easternmost office and handed the lunch box to Jessie. “Mrs. Morgan, you can just knock.”
Jessie nodded and thanked Keegan with a smile.
Victor Morgan’s office wasn’t one of those glass-walled rooms, but a traditional, grand CEO’s office with double doors. The solid walls made it impossible to see inside, and they also provided excellent soundproofing.
Jessie took two steps forward and knocked on the door.
She saw a card reader next to the door. Someone like Keegan could probably swipe their card before knocking and open the door themselves. But since she wasn’t a Morgan Group employee with clearance, she could only wait outside.
Inside the room, Victor Morgan heard the knock. He called out, “Come in,” but didn’t hear the door open.
Victor Morgan frowned slightly, wondering if he had misheard.
His daily visitors almost always had appointments and would be escorted to his office by someone from the secretarial staff, who would naturally open the door and let them in. He never had to open it himself.
Otherwise, he’d waste a considerable amount of time just getting up to open the door all day.
Just as Victor Morgan was dismissing it as a phantom sound and lowering his head to get back to work, a rhythmic “KNOCK KNOCK” came from the door again.
Victor Morgan: “?”
He stood up from his seat, wondering who could be so discourteous.
Especially when he wasn’t in a good mood.
Victor Morgan strode to the door and flung it open.
He was just about to call for Keegan Sanders to see who on earth had been let in, his face still etched with an irritation and impatience he hadn’t had time to conceal.
But all of that was thrown into chaos the moment he opened the door and his eyes met Jessie Sterling’s, which were crinkled in a smile.
Jessie looked at the seemingly stunned Victor Morgan before her, waved her free hand in front of his face, and teased, “What’s wrong? Cat got your tongue? Don’t you recognize your own wife?”
Victor Morgan: “…”
He recognized her, of course. He just wanted another moment to be sure.
The next second, Victor Morgan pulled Jessie into the office.
The lunch box in her hand was, of course, smoothly taken by Victor Morgan.
“What made you suddenly decide to come over?” Victor Morgan asked, leading Jessie by the hand toward the lounge area.
This was the first chance Jessie had to get a good look at Victor Morgan’s office.
The whole office was fan-shaped and enormous. “You texted me saying you wouldn’t be home for dinner, right? I was just worried you wouldn’t eat well. I mean, think about it. You just got back from a business trip abroad, didn’t even take time to get over your jet lag, and now you’re working late into the night…”
Jessie chattered on casually as she observed Victor Morgan’s office.
But before she could finish, the man leading her by the hand suddenly stopped.
