Chapter 80: Chapter 80: “It’s Only Natural to Cook for My Wife.
Jessie probably hadn’t expected Victor Morgan to be staring at her while she drank her water. She was a little embarrassed at first, but then she caught on and pouted, “What are you staring at me for?”
’You made me choke.’
Victor Morgan: “Am I not allowed?”
His retort left Jessie speechless, a faint blush creeping onto her cheeks.
Fortunately, Victor didn’t press the issue. He quickly pushed the main course in front of Jessie. “Eat something. See if you like it.”
There was pan-seared salmon, salt-baked lobster, and steamed crab. The ingredients all looked very fresh. There was also a sashimi dish, but Jessie couldn’t tell what kind of fish it was.
She was indeed hungry. Taking the chopsticks Victor handed her, she took a bite of the salmon.
It looked like it was pan-fried, but it was incredibly tender and smooth. The light seasoning allowed the delicious, natural flavor of the fish to shine through.
Victor then passed a small bowl to Jessie. It was a proper seafood fried rice, a complete medley of various kinds of seafood.
Jessie took a bite, and her eyes lit up. She couldn’t help but nod. “This is delicious!” After saying that, she looked up at Victor. “Was all this just caught?”
Victor nodded.
In truth, most of the ingredients laid out before Jessie were either caught by him in the sea while she was fast asleep, or by the ship’s experienced chef, who had been fishing off the side of the yacht.
Jessie: “Did you bring the chef from back home?”
She felt the flavors suited her perfectly; it didn’t seem like the kind of food a local would make.
Victor: “Do you like it?”
“Mhm,” Jessie nodded. “I like the fried rice the most. And these candied sweet potatoes! Haha, this definitely isn’t a local’s handiwork.”
“That’s good. I was a little worried you wouldn’t be used to my cooking,” Victor said calmly.
As he said this, however, Victor didn’t bother to hide the smile spreading across his face.
Jessie’s hand, holding her food, froze mid-air. “You made this?!” Realizing what he meant, her eyes went wide as she stared at Victor in disbelief.
Victor nodded.
Jessie blinked, seemingly frozen on the spot.
She suddenly pursed her lips, a serious look in her eyes as she turned to the man beside her. “I should tell you, I really don’t like to cook…”
’If neither of us cooked, I could justifiably think we were the same. No one could blame the other.’
’But now… isn’t Victor cheating?’
’He’s the big boss of the Morgan Group, the second-in-command, and he’s busy every day. How could he possibly know how to cook?’
’It just doesn’t make sense.’
Victor watched Jessie’s serious, almost wary expression, only for her to say something so ridiculous. A relaxed look appeared on his face, and he said nonchalantly, “If you don’t like to cook, then don’t. We have the housekeeper and me at home.”
Jessie chewed on the straw in her glass. “Do you like cooking?”
Victor chuckled, neither nodding nor shaking his head. “If you like it…” But as he said this, something seemed to occur to him, and he frowned briefly. “I might not have a lot of free time at home…”
The implication was that he might not be able to satisfy Jessie’s desire to eat his cooking whenever she wanted.
Hearing Victor say this, however, Jessie couldn’t help but start to laugh.
Of course, she wasn’t so demanding that she insisted on only eating food Victor made. “You’re really starting to think of yourself as a chef,” she muttered under her breath.
Victor: “I’m not.”
Jessie looked up, about to tease him and ask how he wasn’t.
Before the words could leave her mouth, Jessie felt a soft pressure on her lips.
“I’m cooking for my wife.”
’Of course he wasn’t a chef. He was her husband.’
When Jessie finally processed what had happened, her ears turned red. She was just about to push him away, but Victor, as if sensing it, didn’t linger. He gave her a simple peck and quickly returned to his seat.
Jessie: “!!!”
For the rest of the meal, Jessie just focused on eating, her head down.
It wasn’t because she was that hungry. She was just completely flustered and had no idea how to deal with the man in front of her.
So she decided to pretend to be busy—too busy eating to talk.
After they finished eating, Victor took the initiative to clear the dishes.
Watching his retreating back, Jessie suddenly remembered that when she first woke up, she had been planning to get angry at Victor.
’Now… it seems like it’s too late for that?’
Jessie was already used to living on a boat from her diving trips with Lynn Jennings.
Being on a private yacht, of course, was even more comfortable.
Sitting on the bed, Jessie watched the sunset fade bit by bit. Gradually, night fell, and the sky filled with stars, like diamonds scattered across a deep blue velvet curtain.
Out on the open sea, with the vast sky overhead and hardly anyone around, it was quiet, but also very pleasant.
The cabin door opened from the outside, and Victor appeared at the entrance. “Want to watch a movie?” he asked as he walked in.
“Huh? There are movies?”
Victor nodded. “Yes.”
He held out a tablet to Jessie, gesturing for her to pick one herself.
Jessie was a total scaredy-cat, but she loved the thrill.
When she saw that Victor’s tablet had a good number of horror movies, her eyes lit up with excitement.
When she was home alone, she would never even consider watching one of those unless she dragged her brother or Lynn Jennings to watch with her.
’As for now…’
Jessie looked up at Victor, an eager, mischievous look in her eyes.
Victor was setting up the equipment. He’d bought the yacht two years ago but had rarely used it himself. He had it brought over this time because of the honeymoon destination Jessie had chosen.
Some of the equipment inside, even Victor was using for the first time.
Jessie’s gaze was so intense that it was hard for Victor to ignore, even if he wanted to.
Turning his head, Victor saw the person on the bed looking like a dazed prairie dog, blinking and stealing glances at him.
The moment their eyes accidentally met, her big, dark eyes quickly darted away.
Victor stood up, walked over to Jessie, and asked, “What do you want to say?”
Jessie pushed the tablet with her chosen movie toward Victor and asked with feigned concern, “Are you scared?”
Victor glanced down at it, then his eyes returned to Jessie, a hint of surprise in them. “You want to watch this?”
Jessie nodded, then shook her head, putting on a very considerate act. “If you’re scared, we don’t have to watch it.”
She sounded so sweet and obedient, as if Victor’s feelings were her one and only concern.
