Chapter 207: He Should Be a Sponsor
Chapter 207: Chapter 207: He Should Be a Sponsor
“What do you think?” Victor Morgan asked.
Jessie Sterling: “I don’t know. I just feel like this whole being-in-front-of-a-camera thing isn’t really for me. And you know what this season of the show is about—it’s not just showing the public what people in different industries do every day, we also have to make a living with our own skills.”
“Are you worried it’ll be too hard, being on the show?” Victor Morgan asked.
“There’s a little bit of that, yes,” Jessie Sterling admitted, not hiding the fact that she wasn’t cut out for physical labor. “But I’m more afraid of the cameras.”
Even though she’d never been in the entertainment industry, she knew that public figures were constantly exposed to cameras. Their every move could easily be scrutinized and judged by others.
She couldn’t stand the thought of living like that.
She had been judged by outsiders twice recently due to some unexpected incidents, and Jessie Sterling didn’t think she had a very high tolerance for it.
“Then don’t go,” Victor Morgan said. “If you’re not sure whether you’ll like it, think about this: does the thought of doing it make you feel anxious? If it does, then don’t go.”
Jessie Sterling bit her lip, her expression conflicted.
Seeing this, Victor Morgan asked, “You still want to go?”
Jessie Sterling: “It does seem like it could be fun…”
“Then go.”
“But…”
“We’ll solve any problems as they come up. If they’re really unsolvable, then you can just quit,” Victor Morgan said.
“That doesn’t seem right, does it?” Jessie Sterling said. “This show was my idea. I can’t just bail halfway through, can I?”
Victor Morgan: “Why not?”
“It shows a complete lack of professionalism!”
Victor Morgan chuckled. “It sounds like you really want to go. If you want to go, just go. We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. Do what you want to do first. If you decide you don’t want to do it anymore, we’ll figure it out then. There’s no need to stress now over things that haven’t even happened yet.”
Jessie Sterling: “So you approve of me going?”
“Yes, if you want to.”
“But with the cameras around, won’t it be… inconvenient?” Jessie Sterling asked.
“Hm?”
Jessie Sterling: “Well, you don’t like having your pictures posted online, right? If I do this…”
Victor Morgan: “It’s fine. Not having my photos online is partly for privacy and partly for security. I’m not a celebrity, so I don’t need random people to know what I look like. But if you need me to make an appearance, it’s not out of the question.”
If Jessie Sterling needed him to appear on the show as her husband, Victor Morgan wouldn’t be against it.
“Pfft.” Jessie Sterling laughed when she heard that. She gave the man beside her a gentle shove. “What are you thinking about? You’re overthinking it. Why would I need you to show up for my program!”
Victor Morgan: “…”
In the end, Jessie Sterling decided to go on the show. She felt Victor Morgan was right: if you want to do something, just do it. When you don’t want to do it anymore, then you can think about an exit strategy.
Besides, the show had guest stars. If she participated for one episode and felt it wasn’t a good fit, she could just act as a one-time guest, and they could replace her in the next episode.
Not long after the cast for the variety show was finalized, it was time to head to the location.
The show was called *A Different Life*. The name signified that the guests came from different industries and had different lives. It also represented that this period of filming was a chance for everyone to step out of their usual circles and experience a completely different way of life.
The official social media account had already made a post, tagging this season’s cast members.
Thanks to the inclusion of the currently popular idol singer Jade Moyer, the lead actress Tanya who had gained some fame from her role in *Glory*, and an athlete who was already world-famous, the show generated a significant amount of buzz.
“My favorite guy is actually going on a reality show! I have to watch!”
“Tanya’s getting some pretty good projects. Nice, nice. For our girl, I’ve got high hopes for this show.”
“Sounds interesting, having so many people from different professions together.”
“Whoa, our favorite author is on it too! It’s our Little Squid!!! She’s made it big! She’s even going on a variety show!”
“Is it a slow-life variety show? This lineup is interesting.”
The location chosen for this season was a small town in western Serran.
The production team prepared a large house, but it only contained the most basic daily necessities. As for expenses like food and entertainment, the cast would have to earn the money themselves.
There was an empty plot of land outside the house, which the guests could also use to become self-sufficient.
Before she left, Jessie Sterling had to film a pre-departure teaser.
Since not everyone was starting from the same place, she would be traveling with two actors from her company and a male idol from another company who was also invited onto the show. They would fly from Aethelburg to Serran together.
The production team, of course, knew they were filming at their own boss’s residence. They had originally thought that since their boss wasn’t exactly a celebrity, they could just film a little less if she didn’t want them to.
But the moment the crew arrived at the siheyuan, they turned on their cameras and didn’t want to turn them off.
It couldn’t be helped. Who would have thought their boss actually lived at the foot of the Forbidden City—truly at the foot of the old imperial city.
Even if they couldn’t reveal the exact location of their boss’s home, filming the interior environment should be fine.
Although it wasn’t the weekend, Victor Morgan didn’t go straight to the office that morning. Instead, he had taken a half-day off.
Victor Morgan hadn’t considered that Jessie Sterling’s show taping would take her so far away.
When he had first discussed it with Jessie, he’d thought very clearly that even if she went away to film, he could visit the set anytime he wanted.
But that was all based on the assumption that the show would be filmed near Aethelburg. Now she was running off from the north of the country to some remote corner in the mountains of the southwest. It wasn’t a place Victor Morgan could just pop over to for a visit whenever he felt like it.
Victor Morgan couldn’t help but worry.
“The humidity over there is quite high. If you’re not used to it…”
Before Victor Morgan could finish, Jessie Sterling cut him off. “President Morgan, Southaven is way more humid. How could I possibly not be used to it?”
Victor Morgan: “…”
He’d almost forgotten that his wife had married him from Southaven. Subconsciously, he always thought of Jessie Sterling as an Aethelburg native.
“Also, it’s a mountainous region, so it’ll probably be colder now. Pack more warm clothes so you don’t catch a cold. Does the house your production team has have heating? They probably don’t have central heating out there, do they?” Victor Morgan rambled on. He was starting to have some regrets now. Because of the massive success of *Glory* and Apex’s recent strong momentum, sponsorship for *A Different Life* had come in quickly. Jessie had no trouble with it, so of course, he hadn’t interfered with the title sponsors.
But now Victor Morgan was thinking, if he had sponsored the show himself, couldn’t he have just installed a heating system in the house for Jessie and the others?
