Chapter 190: Chapter 190: Overjoyed
Victor Morgan had been so composed just a moment ago that Jessie Sterling didn’t think anything of it when he suddenly stopped. Her attention was still completely captivated by the design of his office.
It was only when she felt a hand cup her cheek that Jessie managed to pull her gaze away, just in time to feel a heavy kiss pressed to her lips.
In truth, Victor Morgan had wanted to do this the moment he opened the door and saw Jessie.
But for all his excitement, a part of him had tried to suppress the overwhelming urge.
In the end, of course, he failed to hold back.
Victor had originally intended to give Jessie a gentle kiss, afraid of scaring her.
But as he drew near, primal instinct seemed to replace reason, and he felt a desperate need to merge their bodies into one.
By the time Jessie came back to her senses, she realized that at some point, Victor had lifted her with one arm. The man held the food container in one hand and her in the other, striding toward the executive chair.
As if sensing her lack of focus, Victor suddenly bit down hard on her lower lip, forcing her attention back to him.
Jessie: “…”
He placed her on the executive chair. As he loomed over her, then suddenly bent down to kiss her again, Jessie felt she could hardly breathe. More importantly, the position sent a jolt of danger through her.
She raised her hands to push him away, but who knew what had gotten into Victor. He set the food container on the desk, and his hands began to wander mischieviously toward the hem of her dress.
Seeing her last line of defense about to be breached, Jessie finally panicked.
“Victor Morgan!”
She cried out his name, her voice muffled by the kiss, and her hand shot out to stop his from sliding under her skirt.
Only then did Victor release her. His eyes were dark and bottomless, like a vast ocean of desire with no visible shore, threatening to pull her under and drown her in its depths.
“Hm?”
Victor’s reply was a simple hum, low and deep, an impossibly seductive sound.
Hearing that sound, combined with the man’s low, ragged breaths by her ear, sent a hot flush crawling up Jessie’s neck and face.
“Y-You, let go of me!” As Jessie’s eyes caught the stark office lights behind Victor, the burgeoning desire in her heart was swiftly doused. “We’re in your office! Have some decency!”
Jessie was flustered and annoyed, though she wasn’t sure if her irritation was directed at Victor’s surprise attack or at her own complete lack of self-control, which had almost led her somewhere she shouldn’t go.
Victor was still bent over her. And though Jessie had pinned his hand, it remained firmly on her waist, not yielding in the slightest.
His posture was one of absolute control—domineering and leaving no room for refusal.
“Yes, I know,” Victor said. “No one will come in.”
Jessie: “!!!”
Her eyes widened as she stared at him in utter disbelief.
Victor took in her every little expression and let out a low chuckle. She was so innocently adorable in that moment, and it only made him want to possess her all the more.
“Let me,” Victor murmured, his voice a low temptation.
A new place, a new act, all within this unique space… Jessie was wound tight with nervousness.
She wanted to push him away by the shoulders, but he had already lowered himself and knelt before her.
She knew there were people right outside the door, yet here she was, in Victor’s office, doing *this* with him.
Jessie knew this was wrong. She had only come to bring him dinner, so how had it come to this?
But Victor’s eyes were bloodshot. And while Jessie was tense, he was consumed far more by excitement.
Is loving someone like tending a flower?
Victor used to scoff at the notion, wondering who could have come up with such a ridiculously sentimental metaphor.
But now, he felt there might be some truth to it after all.
Flowers were such delicate things. If he wanted to see one bloom, didn’t he have to meticulously fertilize and water it every day?
Jessie had no idea what was going through Victor’s mind. Her own had gone blank.
Her mind was a complete blank, like she’d blacked out from drinking. Then, it was like that summer she’d gone to Niporia with Lynn to watch the fireworks festival by the sea. The roar of the crowd was drowned out by the explosions of color bursting in the sky, so brilliant they washed out her vision. And through it all, she could hear the crash of the ocean waves.
It was so contradictory, yet so utterly consuming.
When the sound of fireworks finally faded from her ears, replaced by a human voice, Jessie at last returned to herself.
“Stay away from me.”
As if he had no idea what he had just done.
The moment the words left Jessie’s lips, Victor knew exactly what she meant.
He didn’t know whether to be angry or to laugh.
“I’m hungry.”
Just as Victor was about to say something, Jessie, still sprawled on the executive chair, blinked and looked up at him.
“I haven’t even had dinner yet. I came straight here to find you…”
Victor wasn’t sure if he was imagining it, but he could have sworn he saw a hint of accusation in her eyes.
He looked down and rubbed his nose, feeling a pang of guilt under her gaze.
Some dinner delivery this turned out to be…
Victor unpacked the dishes from the container one by one. It had a hot water layer at the bottom for insulation, which was more breathable than a standard thermos, so the food still tasted almost as fresh as it did right out of the wok.
Jessie really was hungry. After the… interlude… with Victor, she was now famished. Holding her bowl, she couldn’t be bothered to spare him a glance and simply buried her head in her food.
Victor sat beside her, watching her with a smile. “Would you like some soup?”
Even as he asked, he had already picked up the ladle, filled a bowl for Jessie, and pushed it toward her.
Jessie finally graced him with a look.
It seemed to say, *That’s more like it.*
She saw nothing wrong with Victor “serving” her now. After all, if he hadn’t insisted on dragging her into things, she would have been done with her meal long ago.
Victor barely ate any of the food himself. It wasn’t that he disliked the taste; he simply couldn’t draw his attention away from Jessie.
After his earlier disappointment, this unexpected surprise made it difficult to think about anything else.
It felt incredible.
