Chapter 170: Chapter 170: Cooking in Person
Yvonne Rhodes’s work had already gained some mainstream attention back in the day, and the passion of anime and manga fans is on par with that of celebrity fans.
So when a random user posted about it, fans of the Glory manhua were surprised.
Yvonne Rhodes hadn’t made a big deal of it on the first day of filming. Aside from the dedicated fans who checked her Weibo every day, many who had read the original work but didn’t follow the author closely had no idea.
As a result, the topic blew up with discussion.
“I can’t believe our beloved Glory is being adapted into a TV series! And the makeup and costumes look so faithful to the original! It really has the vibe of the team!”
“I heard the manhua I used to follow started filming a month or two ago, but I didn’t pay much attention, figuring it was doomed to be a butchered adaptation. But seeing these leaked photos today, I’m actually thinking it looks okay?”
“As a fan of the original, I’m pretty satisfied. As long as they don’t mess with the plot or force any ships, I’m in!”
“I just hope they respect the source material.”
The topic generated a lot of buzz. Eventually, somehow, Yvonne Rhodes noticed the online discussion and directly addressed the matter of staying true to the original on her Weibo.
[Yvonne Rhodes: When I sold the rights, I reached an agreement with the boss of Apex Films to prevent any drastic alterations and to strictly follow the original plotline. I wouldn’t just sell my baby away carelessly, so everyone can rest assured!]
Yvonne Rhodes’s words were a great comfort to many fans of the original work.
As Glory became a hot topic, some netizens were reminded of Little Youth, which had started filming around the same time.
Ever since Cheryl Stuart leaked stories to the gossip accounts about Nina Walsh acting like a diva and skipping work without reason, the entire production of Little Youth had come under public scrutiny.
When Arya Thorne found out, she was furious.
She had practically cast aside Cheryl Stuart to promote Nina Walsh, only to find out that Nina was so unreliable.
She tried to sling mud at Cheryl Stuart, and not only did it fail, but it also gave the other side leverage against her.
It had backfired spectacularly.
But that wasn’t what shocked Arya Thorne the most. What truly unsettled her was that after Nina got into such trouble, the Lynch family made no move whatsoever. They showed no intention of stepping in to help her.
This was a clear signal, and for someone as calculating as Arya Thorne, it was particularly alarming.
’I’ve probably miscalculated.’
Even though Nina Walsh was living with the Lynch family, her importance to them might not be as great as she had imagined.
Arya Thorne had tried to probe her, both directly and indirectly, a few times, but Nina was slippery on the subject, leaving Arya uncertain.
Their relationship had now become somewhat awkward.
Jessie Sterling amused herself by following the drama online. When she glanced at the time, she was surprised to see it was already almost evening, Aethelburg time.
Remembering that Victor Morgan had just grabbed a quick bite in the study for lunch before burying himself in work again, Jessie Sterling thought for a moment and decided to treat him.
She knew perfectly well that Victor was always incredibly busy during the middle of the year. The fact that he had taken the initiative to make time to accompany her to a fashion show showed he didn’t want her married life to be dull, especially since her friends were all either getting married or pregnant recently, leaving her with no one to hang out with.
Since Victor was so considerate of her, Jessie couldn’t possibly not reciprocate.
In any relationship, a one-sided effort could never last long.
Jessie went to the kitchen.
While the jet’s galley couldn’t compare to a kitchen at home, it was still small but fully equipped.
There were plenty of ingredients on board. Since she had grown up in Southaven and was used to all kinds of seafood, the ingredients stocked on the plane were primarily seafood-based.
Jessie planned to make tempura, spicy stir-fried squid, wasabi butter crab, and abalone with scallion oil.
Victor liked noodles, so Jessie personally mixed a sesame sauce and made a bowl of sesame noodles.
The tempura required deep-frying the batter, which was a bit of a hassle. But since Jessie had nothing else to do, she got to work. After a slightly clumsy start, she gradually got the hang of it.
She had always been a foodie. Tempura wasn’t a particularly rare dish, but not every restaurant made it well. Jessie had learned from experience how to control the heat and had even made her own fresh salted egg yolk sauce to go with it.
After puttering around in the kitchen for nearly two hours, Jessie finally finished making dinner.
It took a little longer than expected, but Victor never once rushed her. Jessie figured he had completely forgotten about dinnertime, completely absorbed in his work.
Jessie went to change her clothes first. Even if she was going to show off her efforts, she wasn’t going to do it smelling of cooking fumes. She couldn’t stand it herself.
After changing into a form-fitting, dusty blue maxi dress, Jessie finally carried the tray to his door and knocked.
“Come in.”
Victor’s voice came from inside the room.
Jessie opened the door.
Victor had already looked up at the sound. He was wearing a pair of non-prescription glasses, a rare sight, likely because his eyes were strained from staring at a computer all day.
As he looked up, his gaze met Jessie’s, who was standing in the doorway.
Victor was a little surprised; the kitchen staff usually delivered the meals.
“What are you doing here?” Victor put down his tablet, stood up, and crossed the room in a few quick strides to take the tray from her hands.
Jessie said, “Bringing you dinner! I noticed you haven’t come out of your room all day.”
Holding the tray with one hand, Victor led Jessie by the other to the small dining table.
The dining table in the room wasn’t large, but from there, you could look out the window at the view from ten thousand feet in the air.
“Are you bored?” Victor asked.
The flight was long, and he had been busy with work, leaving him little time to spend with Jessie. It was understandable that she might be bored being on the plane by herself.
Jessie said, “It’s not so bad.” It wasn’t like there was no internet; she could still catch up on the latest gossip online. Not wanting to dwell on the topic, Jessie gestured at the table, motioning for Victor to hurry up and eat.
Victor didn’t suspect anything and lowered his head to eat.
Before and after their marriage, Jessie had never let on that she knew how to cook.
Jessie watched Victor eat with a smile. When she saw him sample every dish on the tray, she couldn’t help but grin, resting her chin on her hands.
It was just the two of them in the room, and Jessie wasn’t hiding her gaze. With her staring so intently, how could Victor not notice?
“What are you looking at me for?” Being watched like that by his wife, how could Victor possibly have the appetite to just focus on eating?
He looked up, dipped a tempura shrimp from the plate into the salted egg yolk wasabi sauce, and offered it to Jessie’s lips. He knew she loved this dish.
“I don’t want any.” Jessie shook her head, refusing.
Victor was a bit surprised.
“Is it good?” she asked immediately after.
For a moment, Victor couldn’t figure out what Jessie was up to, but tonight’s dinner was definitely to his liking.
Compared to Jessie, who grew up in Southaven, Victor, a native of Aethelburg, had a palate that leaned toward bolder flavors. He wasn’t completely averse to spicy food, so he quite enjoyed the dishes tonight.
“It’s good,” Victor said. “Did we get a new chef?”
They had two chefs traveling with them, and the lunch they’d sent over had been much lighter, a completely different style from this evening’s meal.
