Chapter 195: She hates me
Raphael’s POV
It was late, past midnight, I couldn’t get a wink of sleep. Amelia was also out running errands finding a way to cushion the effect of the damages. Hopefully her family doesn’t go bankrupt. The mansion was dark and quiet, I had found my way to the kitchen a bit tipsy as i had been drinking.
Braelyn was also out. I guess she would be spending the night at his place. The thought of that made my chest burn with a strange fury. There was this irritation I couldn’t brush off.
I grabbed a random glass from the kitchen cabinet and settled down on the stool ready to pour a drink in the kitchen, neat whiskey, letting it burn slowly. The kitchen was dark aside for the overhead lamp flickering above me
. I poured the whiskey neat, amber liquid glugging slowly from the bottle. I didn’t use ice, I wanted the alcohol to burn my throat as I drank.
The first sip hit hard, fired down my throat, spreading warm in my chest. I leaned on the counter, elbows digging in, staring at the glass like it had answers. My mind was spiraling, it felt like everything was slipping from my grasp..my jaw clenched at the thought.
The company was bleeding out slowly but it was certain, New Horizon wasn’t just competing, they were carving us up, piece by piece. This was the first time Volkov Apex holdings have encountered such a formidable contender. I couldn’t help but wonder what type of person Killian Orlov was
The Volkov family had history with the Orlovs, nasty ones but I was still puzzled where Killian had spawned out of. He wasn’t from the main Orlov family; it made me wonder if he was a cousin. Based on my research Killian indeed had the backing of the Orlov family.
He was truly capable, contracts were vanishing overnight, clients suddenly jumping ship and now the board whispering about replacing me with him. They really thought Lucien was capable of fitting into my shoes. The absurdity of the situation was truly hilarious.
The spoilt brat who’d stumbled into a win with Genesis and suddenly looked like a saviour.
I took another sip, longer this time. The burn felt good, it struck the right spot. I chuckled, seeming to lose my damn mind. The whiskey warmed my veins, but it didn’t touch the cold knot in my gut. I continued drowning myself with whiskey hoping the burns would make everything numb for a while.
A crash echoed from the foyer. It sounded like glass shattering alerting me immediately. My brows furrowed, my gaze drifted to the kitchen down that was slightly ajar.
It couldn’t be a burglar. Not with the type of security this villa had. My curiosity still piqued, I set the glass down hard and strode out of the kitchen. Down the corridor towards the foyer I could hear more cracking sounds like someone stumping on glass.
From afar I could see a dark figure barely able to stand straight trying to stand against the wall but fell down again. My brows furrowed the closer I got..Brealyn ? I was completely taken aback to see her in this situation.
Braelyn was on the floor, shards around her, she was clutching her head. She had accidentally knocked over an antique vase. The flower was destroyed with the vase.
My eyes went wide, noticing how flushed her face was. She was also acting a bit clumsy. Without a doubt she was drunk. Badly drunk I might ask. My frown deepened as confusion filled my face. She wasn’t a heavy drinker and I could count the number of times I had seen her drunk on one finger….
That bastard made her drink. My jaw slacked. She tried to push up from the floor, her wobbling legs couldn’t keep up. She stumbled forward and her glassy eyes went wild as she managed to hold on the wall but still ended up falling.
I rushed over acting on impulse to help. “Are you alright?” She shoved me hard, palm slamming my chest. Then her hand flew across my face, slap, the pain sparked on my face but I couldn’t be bothered.
“Back away,” she slurred. Her voice sounded like venom even through the alcohol. “Don’t touch me.” She barked
I froze, cheek stinging, staring at her. “Why are you drunk Braelyn?” I hissed at her.
She looked up, eyes unfocused but full of hate. She waved her hand at me showing no intention of speaking to me. “It has nothing to do with you. God bother yourself with your Amelia. ” she pushed past me, stumbling towards the stairs. My gaze darkened. A sharp hiss ran after her, she heard my footsteps and turned around ready to slap me again. I caught her wrist on time.
My grip tightened and I pulled her closer slamming against my chest as my other arm clamped on her waist. “What is wrong with you? Why did you get drunk with him?” I said through gritted teeth.
She glared at me and kneeled me in the nuts. The pain shot through me but I didn’t let go. I wasn’t giving her that damn chance. My grip tightened around her frame and it infuriated her.
“I said let go of me.” She hissed, struggling and kicking in my arm. “I just had some drinks with Lucien to celebrate. It is no big deal ” she fought doing her bloody best to get away from me like I was some scourge. The air around me chilled. She was indeed drinking with him. Celebrating his success I presume.
Her teeth sank into my arm. She was so damn intentionally about ripping my flesh. I was stunned for a moment confused when Braelyn turned this feisty.
I didn’t have the patience for this level of drama. Ignoring her resistance, I scooped her into my arms and stormed towards her bedroom. She was damn drunk, she forgot the way and was heading up the stairs. Braelyn screamed and fought me the entire way, calling me the insults she could possibly think of.
The door swung open,I stepped into her bedroom. “Let go of me you asshole. ” She cursed, pulling my hair. I gritted my teeth enduring it all.
“Can you just be still for a moment?” I spat but my words didn’t even reach her ears.
I continued towards the bathroom, I shoved the door open and headed straight for the shower. I tried my best to place her as gently as I could….if she wasn’t acting like a freaking daredevil.
She almost jumped out of my arm and slipped. Luckily I caught her on time and shoved her against the wall. I switched on the faucet and the water started pouring drenched us both. “Can you just sober up?” I snapped at her.
She calmed down for a moment. The water dropped all over us, as the only sound left in the shower were her rapid breathes and the trickling water. She didn’t say anything and just glared
I clicked my tongue . What the hell was I going to do? I thought, running my fingers through my hair. I turned around to leave, that’s when I heard it.
“I fucking hate you Raphael. I wish you would just drop dead.” She screamed out with pure rage. I froze something cracked in me at moment
My head snapped back at her. A smile curled up my lips. “You hate me. ” I repeated. She didn’t say anything and just glared..
“Then you should just loathe me then.” I chimed, acting on nothing but pure rage. I slammed my lip against hers.
