Chapter 297: She wants a divorce

Braelyn’s POV

Brandon Hayes was an old friend from my university days. We lost contact after school although he was at my wedding. The bottom line was that he wasn’t close to Raphael.

I had his business card for a while and was aware he was an accomplished lawyer.

The reason for divorce, irreconcilable difference and infidelity not forgetting Raphael’s mistress was pregnant

I gave a short recap of everything telling him only what was necessary. Brandon listened to the end.

A heavy sigh rang from the other side. “It is terrifying how people change. I can’t believe Raphael did that.” He admitted. He was aware of how lovely dovely Rapheal was during my school days

Even after he graduated he was constantly around school. Everyone knew of how much we were in love then. “It is in the past. How quick can the divorce be processed?” I inquired

The other side of the call went silent for a moment before Brandon spoke again. “Things will difficult considering the will agreement. If you divorce now you might loose everything although we can challenge it in court it will be hard considering the Volkov family influences. ”

My stomach dropped. “So you won’t take the case.” I quietly said.

Brandon groaned. “I will help you but it will be hard to prove infidelity since there was an open marriage and there are a couple of other issues. The only way the divorce will easily go through is with Raphael’s agreement. ” he explained

My grip tightened on the phone. Raphael wasn’t willing for a divorce. “If he agrees on the divorce we can proceed to challenge the will if not this would be a long gruesome battle. But as long as you are ready we can try.”

“What about the neglect? The allergy incident and the assault. He once tried to choke.” I was desperate. There was no way I could force a divorce.

Brandon’s voice came out sharp and calm as he dismantled every point. “You need concrete evidence to prove the assault which you don’t have and we can’t really prove the negligence as for the allergy. He can claim he wasn’t aware you were allergic and it was amelia who planted them…” the way he spoke with certainty made my stomach churned.

“The Volkovs have good lawyers and if Raphael is adamant about the marriage they can assure he was ignorant and wanted to protect you from the storm .” It felt absurd but I knew the law wasn’t always about what was right but facts.

I fell into deep thought. The silence grew loud. My mind was made up. “I will try to convince him for a peace divorce. Draft the agreement. I will figure out a way to convince him to sign..”

“Alright Braelyn. It will be sent before the end of today just make the payments. I will email you the details..” I was relieved it could be done before the end of today. It was practically morning now

My gaze drifted to the clock. 1:30 am.

“Thank you. I appreciate the help.” I chimed.

“I am just doing my job.” He replied then paused for a moment before adding..”even if Raphael refuses to sign. I will still fight for you in court. Try to rest. Good night. ”

“Good night. ” I replied before the call hung up. I knew a divorce wasn’t going to be easy but I wasn’t giving up.

This was too much if I continued this game and didn’t escape now it might be too late. Raphael and Lucien might be the end of me

I don’t know when Raphael returned by the time I woke up the next day, the butler informed me he was still asleep.

The atmosphere was a bit heavy. News about Amelia pregnancy was kept as a secret to protect the baby.

The entire day my head was in the clouds I could barely concentrate on anything. I barely noticed anything at work the entire time I was lost in my thoughts all I could think about was the divorce. Lucien tried calling and texting me he was still worried but I didn’t reply.

I needed space and he probably finally understood. He stopped blowing up my phone after being ignored

His last text read..

I almost laughed at the message. He had no idea I had made up my mind to leave everything including him. Lucien was dangerous, i had seen enough to know..

How was I going to make Raphael sign. I doubt asking Rapheal directly will work. The only chance I had was for him to sign it unaware then secretly wait until the cooling off period is over to disappear.

That way he wouldn’t suspect a thing. Once I am divorce I will be free then we could figure out the will and property arrangement in court. Honestly it didn’t matter if I got any of Raphael’s properties. If I got everything willed to me that would be enough.

Brandon delivered as promised. The documents arrived before closing time.

By the time I got back home it was close to 7 pm. The butler welcomed me at the door. “Welcome back madam. The sir is currently in his study and dinner will be served soon.” He informed me at the door.

I nodded at him.”that’s perfect.” I muttered then walked past him into the foyer before heading upstairs directly to Raphael study.

I stopped at the door for a while before pushing it open. “Raphael..” I called out as my gaze settled on the man sitting on his desk buried on work.

He looked washed out. There were huge black circles under his eyes and his hair was dishevelled. It was like he stayed up all night working and didn’t sleep as the butler said.

Even in this state he was still painfully good looking. Raphael didn’t glance up from his screen. “Welcome back Lynn. I thought you went ready to speak to me.” He answered then tapped something on his mouse before finally glancing at me.

I didn’t smile and kept my expression blank as I approached him. “I still need space but the work can’t be delayed. ”

I reached into my bag to pull out a folder. “This is the monthly report. It was ready earlier than required your signature is needed. ” I explained handing him the stack of document.

Raphael accept it but his brows furrowed slightly as he started to flip through the pages. “Isn’t early for the report?” He muttered. I tried to act calm. There was no way he sensed something was off. I hid it properly yet my stomach still churned

Raphael was sharp . What if he find the divorce agreement hidden among the report?

“I want to go on leave. So this have to be cleared..” I gave an excuse.
