Chapter 5: Uncle in law
Braelyn’s pov
Two wrongs don’t make a right, my mind was telling me to go for it.
I should have kissed him, but I could not. An image of Raphael flashed through my eyes and then I froze.
“Sorry, but I have to get back home before it’s too late.” That was the silly excuse I used to escape.
I didn’t stop running until I got to the car and drove out. My heart raced with a strange excitement. It didn’t mean anything, I was just emotionally vulnerable at the moment—all excuses.
Past midnight the car slowed down. My eyes fell on the place I called ’ Home.’ The one I built with Raphael but he was tearing it apart. The building that gave me peace was my sense of dread.
Was this still my ’ home’? I shook my head, combing through my hair with my fingers before a shaky breath escaped. Enough of thinking, I just needed to sleep on this tonight. My brain was already exhausted.
The alcohol effects were slowly slipping in. With shaky hands, I reached for the door and stepped out, slamming the door behind me. The walk to the main door felt endless, and my body kept stumbling.
The door was pulled open and I stepped in, making my way to my bedroom, but I barely made it past the living room. The air still reeked of scented oils and candles which I had arranged earlier for Raphael and me. The rose petals were scattered everywhere.
Raphael has not bothered to ask the maids to clean it up. Why would he when he was busy slamming into Amelia’s pussy like there was no tomorrow? She squirmed and trembled under him right there in the sitting room.
The room was chaotic and reeked of sweat and some eroticism mixed in from their moans and cries. They must have fucked on almost every surface here.
“Don’t stop, no matter what don’t…. Oh, Raphael fuck me harder.” She moaned loudly, her hands gripping his thick, dark locks that reminded me of caramel.
“I don’t plan on stopping for anything.” My ’ husband’ said excitedly, thrusting into another woman.
“Yes fuck me better than you had ever fucked Lynn.” Her voice was raspy from moaning.
He groaned, “Stop talking too much!!” He groaned and flipped her over before slamming into her pussy from behind.
Amelia’s moans grew louder, she clearly preferred this position. The sounds of their skin slapping against each other grew louder, mixed with her cries and moans.
They did not notice me standing close to the entrance. They were in their own little world. My eyes stung with daggers being thrown at my heart.
I could not bear to watch but was too exhausted to even bark at them. At least they should have used one of the several bedrooms in this estate.
Instead, they chose a position they knew I would see. Was Raphael trying to show me how much he loved to fuck his ’ sister.’ when he couldn’t touch me?
I sniffed, my body trembling slightly. Then I turned and slipped away like the intruder in my own ’ home.’ This was not my home anymore but a cage meant to torture me. Amelia wasn’t the girl he saw as a sister, but his treasured lover, whom he destroyed our little home for.
******
The sprinkler alarm went off, and my eyes opened when the cold water from the sprinklers woke me up. It was already dawn.
Crap! My body ached badly. I managed to sit up on the back seat grabbing my waist that was crying due to the uncomfortable position I slept in last night.
I felt like shit.
I reached out for the door, then stepped out of the car carrying my bag. “Ouch.” A sharp hiss rang. My back was protesting.
A fleeting view of my reflection passed on the tinted car window. Black eyes, pale face and hair that looked like a bird nest.
That was my reward for crying myself to sleep in the car’s backseat, and even a strand of my hair was stuck in my mouth with several others sticking to my face. Not the graceful appearance I wanted.
“Good morning ma’am.” The maids greeted me at the door. It was a miracle they could recognise me. They were cleaning up the mess from last night.
My ears perked up hearing soft laughter and chatter, making my face scrunch up to an ugly expression. Someone was in an awfully good mood after banging my husband last night.
I walked through the foyer, my eyes catching the appearance of Amelia and Raphael, who were in robes, having coffee. Was that my robe she was wearing? Amelia was chattering while Raphael stood at the window making a phone call.
They both saw me. He glanced away to stare outside the window, which seemed more interesting, while Amelia, being a bitch commented on my appearance.
“Oh, there you are. You missed out last night, a true Shame. You do look like you went through a lot.” She laughed.
I didn’t glance at her and stormed up the stairs.
“I wouldn’t go to the master’s bedroom if I were you..” she added, which I should have listened to because what the hell happened here.
The room was in shambles. How wild was their night? This was annoying, I turned around, bumping into Raphael, who I clearly didn’t know was behind me. He smelled like her perfume.
“Please move away.” I shoved him off, and he grabbed my hand and pulled me close. His nose crooked on my neck. What the hell was happening here?
“You reek of alcohol. What were you up to last night?” His baritone voice was threateningly low, sending chills down my spine. Was he mad?
I yanked off my hand, my eyes glaring at him. “Why do you care?”
Raphael’s hand clenched his gaze sharply.
“And you were against the open marriage. How believable.” He scoffed before groaning and tugging his hair. He didn’t look like someone who had the time of his life last night.
I scoffed at him, about to leave, when his voice delivered unexpected news, stopping me in my tracks. “Grandpa died last night. We are travelling for his funeral.”
This was just perfect.
We had to leave for the funeral immediately despite wanting to be far away from Amelia and Raphael.
I tried not to think too much about her presence; the only reason I came along wasn’t because I was Mrs Volkov, but Raphael’s grandfather was an old friend of my father.
The entire trip to the Volkov family home was, at the very least, bearable. Amelia stuck to Raphael like glue and I was clearly the third party. Since she was a close family friend, it was natural that she came to the funeral.
The estate was luxurious with several cars lined up. It seemed like we were the last to attend. We got out of the car and made our way to the main entrance. Amelia could not just stop chattering.
“It’s more beautiful than the last time I was here.” She mentioned holding his arm tightly. I clicked my tongue and walked past them inside..
The sitting room was filled with Raphael’s relatives all busy chatting about the funeral. They didn’t notice me when I stepped in. No one ever does. I quietly sat in a corner and watched them.
Next, Raphael and Amelia came in, and everyone made sure to notice them. It was hard to ignore Amelia’s bubbly confident presence.
“Aunty,” she chimed excitedly, running towards the couch where my mother-in-law was seated. It wasn’t far from where I sat. They had a heartwarming reunion.
“Amelia my dear. You look stunning.” His mother replied, hugging her tightly before she turned to Raphael.
They still didn’t notice me and were chattering around, it has always been this way.
In the past, I thought it was because they knew Amelia longer than I, but now I was seeing the signs I had missed. His father wasn’t around.
“How annoying,” I muttered, then tried to distract myself with my phone.
Everyone seemed excited when Amelia came, forgetting the wife. The joyful atmosphere suddenly went stale like the devil walked in and maybe he did.
“Guess who finally shows up.” Someone gasped.
I glanced away from my phone to see what was happening. That’s when I saw him.
He looked a bit like Raphael but carried a sense of danger. Dressed in a leather jacket and black jeans, his hair was dishevelled. His hazel eyes were shining with defiance with a taunting smirk.
Some tattoos were peeking on his neck. He held a helmet in his hand and an aura that spoke of rebellion shrouded him. He looked familiar but I could not pinpoint where we met.
“Hi Natalia,” he chimed, addressing my mother-in-law with a disrespectful tone. She scoffed ignoring him as she pulled Amelia away.
Raphael’s gaze locked with his, something deadly lingering in it.
“It’s been a while, Ralph. Sorry, I missed your wedding.” He chimed; that was four years ago.
His eyes darted around the room until they fell on me, then he smiled. Raphael didn’t like the fact.
I have never met him before, and there was only one member of the Volkov family I hadn’t met who didn’t attend my wedding.
Approaching footsteps from the stairs stopped, then Raphael’s father’s voice chimed.
“You are late, Lucien. At least you showed up this time.”
He pried his eyes from me, then stared at my father-in-law with a smug look.
“I am not that late, brother, after all your son just arrived.”
And then it clicked Lucien Volkov. The black sheep of the Volkov family. Raphael’s uncle, the same age as him. Why did it feel like we had met before?
