Chapter 289: Pregnant?

Braelyn’s POV

For the first time that night, Raphael looked like a man who realised the situation was spiralling beyond his control. His jaw clenched his hand now holding mine tightened a bit as he whispered.

“This is probably another crazy stunt.” He said in a low tone, his jaw clenched as he watched the stretcher pulled away from the driveway.

“I trust you Lynn. You wouldn’t stain your hand especially not with someone not worth it.” He said then slowly glanced at me. The image of the ambulance driving away reflected across the car’s glass windows with the bright lights still flashing.

“You trust me,” I said slowly.

He frowns softly, “Who else will I trust?” He asked me baffled. I chuckled at his words.

“You didn’t trust me in the past, Raphael. ” I said coldly remembering all those times he chose her over me and now her life was even at risk.

” I wasn’t thinking straight and I was blinded by her manipulation and hatred to see the truth but not anymore,” he said quietly. Then a smile slowly tugged on my lips.

“What if I did it?” I asked him. I was expecting a reaction but his face remained calm without the slightest hint of shock.

“What if I wanted to get rid of her after all I have the motive?” I asked once more. His face relaxed

“I know you wouldn’t.” He said.

“Because you think I am weak..” I laughed at testing him. He shook his head and his hand held my cheek.

“You are anything but weak.” He replied, his tone lowered..”You wouldn’t do something so stupid to make an attempt on her life in somewhere that makes you a prime suspect. You are smarter than that..” My eyes flickered. I was stunned at his words.

“What if I am not as smart as you think? After all, she is my nemesis..” I bowed my head, testing him further. He laughed.

“If you did, then she pushed you to it. And either way, I employ better lawyers than prosecutors.” He said, then grabbed my hand tugging me forward.

“Whether you did it or not we need to go to the hospital or you will look more guilty. ” he urged me, already analysing the situation. “I don’t care if you are the culprit or the victim Lynn..”

My heart skipped a beat. In a very long while it hadn’t reacted to Raphael. I felt like laughing. Was my love that cheap? I just needed someone to trust me.

Then in a low voice, I whispered. “I didn’t do it. I wouldn’t risk my future for the likes of her.” He nodded, walking towards our car that had been brought to the driveway.

The air around Raphael got heavier. “In that case things just got interesting. Amelia had been silent for too long.” He hissed and his gaze drifted to his father.

Ronan stood a few steps away, watching silently. His expression was unreadable, as if he were an outsider. Natalia scoffed loudly from beside him.

“Better pray Braelyn.,” she hissed before marching toward a nearby vehicle. It was not the limousine they came in with but a lower-key black sedan parked slightly away from the main entrance. Something low-key

Ronan moved without a word and followed her into the car. Raphael’s hand tightened around mine again as he watched them leave

I glanced up at him, suddenly very aware of the way his fingers clasped mine firmly, almost protectively. His thumb brushed once across my knuckles in a silent reassurance that grounded me far more than I expected.

“Come,” he said quietly.

Our chauffeur was already opening the door of our own car. Raphael guided me inside first before sliding in beside me, his hand still holding mine as the door shut.

“Follow that car,” he instructed calmly.

The engine started immediately.

As we pulled away from the banquet hall, the flashing red ambulance lights disappeared into the night ahead of us.

The entire ride to the hospital I was trying to figure out what Amelia was trying to do or was she poisoned by someone else?

She was truly crazy if she poisoned herself.

The city lights flashed past my face as the car drove farther into the night. But who would hurt Amelia?

My thoughts ran through every possible enemy she had, investors, staff, and rivals.

Then one name surfaced… and my stomach tightened.

Lucien.

Lucien was capable of doing it but I knew it wasn’t his goal yet my stomach twisted. There was no way he would hurt Amelia knowing I would be a suspect, I tried to convince myself.

My gaze drifted to Raphael; he had been quiet the entire ride. His head was laid back, eyes tightly closed as he massaged the space between his brows.

Unfortunately, we lost track of the ambulance and Ronan’s car after we got trapped in a really bad holdup. We were able to find the hospital because Raphael remembered the hospital name written on the ambulance.

By the time we arrived at the hospital, Amelia was already under admission. Raphael and I walked into the emergency ward waiting area. Ronan was seated while Natalia was restless pacing around

The moment she heard us coming she glared our way. I glanced through the glass window to see Amelia being attended by several doctors at once.

“What took you so long?” Natalia asked, her fist clenched.

“Traffic. ” Raphael shrugged. Natalia was about to lose it but Ronan stopped her on time.

“Don’t lose your temper here.” He warned her. Natalia was in a stare-down and she was a moment away from losing it

That’s when frantic footsteps rushed towards Amelia’s room. A doctor was clutching a test report running like a life depended on it.

From the hallway, he pushed the door open and screamed at the top of his lungs desperate to stop something.

“Don’t give her the medication. It is harmful to pregnant women.” He screamed running into the room and my world froze. “The patient is pregnant. ” The new doctor said waving the test results at the other doctor in charge.

Amelia was pregnant. I couldn’t believe it

I was still processing what I just heard because there was no fucking way. A slap rang from my side and my head snapped to Raphael who was equally stunned with a red mark on his face and Natalia who at some point broke away from Ronan’s hold standing before him

Her hand trembled as she spoke. “Why did you let her take alcohol while pregnant?” She screamed then her bloodshot eyes met mine.

“You knew didn’t you? That’s why you wanted to kill her. How can you be so heartless Braelyn?” She accused me but I was numb to the accusation

My hand subconsciously reached my lower tummy. “She is pregnant, Raphael..” I said softly.
