Chapter 58: The real Mrs Volkov

Braelyn’s POV

The maids scattered from my path as if they were escaping a storm. “Viktor!!” I barked out again rushing down the stairs.

“Yes, ma’am,” a middle-aged man with some wrinkles by the side of his eyes answered.

“What happened to the bedroom? Who authorized a complete redecoration?” I asked him. My chest was heaving, barely able to restrain my anger.

I had chosen every decoration myself to make it remind me of the home I grew up in. Raphael approved my taste, so how did things change without my authorization?!

Viktor swallowed hesitant to answer. I stepped forward squaring his jaw.

“What’s holding you from answering a simple question?” I snapped at him. The butler politely nodded.

“It was done with Mr Volkov’s approval.” He answered. I scoffed, that wasn’t the answer.

“Whose idea was it?” I asked him. A part of me already knew the answer I just needed him to say it out loud.

He parted his lips to answer but was beaten by a sharp voice. ” I did, I found your old designs boring so Raphael made them change everything while we were gone for the funeral,” Amelia answered with a smug smile.

She stood at the entrance surrounded by several bodyguards carrying loads of packages. She just came back from an endless shopping spree.

For a moment, I was dazed, my eyes darted around the familiar walls, which were completely foreign now. Every piece held a memory, and now that it was gone, it was like my existence was being wiped from the home.

Her heels clicked against the expensive flooring. She approached me with a smug smile. “We can all agree this is better than your what will I say…” Her voice dropped as she eyed me dressed in joggers and a T-shirt…

Her voice carried a deliberate hint of malice. “Your pitiful outdated style. Isn’t that right, Viktor? My style looks better.” She added.

Viktor cleared his throat..”You have a refined taste miss.” He replied, I stared at him dumbfounded. Great she had the household under her control.

“Did you have to touch the bedroom?” I asked her, and she gave me a blank expression like the question was dumb, and maybe it was.

She lowered her voice just for both of us to hear. “Of course dear. You don’t expect me to stay in a room that reeks of you…” My eyes went wide and realization hit me.

“Raphael and I have to start working on having that baby soon. No need to question him, he already knows.” She explained further, her eyes sparkled. She was expecting me to lash out or grab her hair.

No woman would be fine with a mistress taking over her home. Changing things and flaunting around as the madam, but I wasn’t just any woman, and besides, I knew a lost battle when I saw one.

Nothing would change this. I would probably be the forgotten wife throwing a tantrum.

“Where did you keep my things?” I asked with a calm voice. She was stunned not expecting my reaction

“Everything was sent to the guest room close to the kitchen. I hope you don’t have any issue with that.” I smiled, she was really pushing

That was a servant’s room. Was she trying to force me out of the mansion? She felt threatened by my presence but why?

Amelia knew that, although this sham of a marriage was falling apart, I couldn’t move out for appearances, and Raphael and I wouldn’t get a simple divorce because of the will.

I laughed, it was soft and light. I laughed so hard that tears were caught in my eyes. Her smug expression completely fell

“Thank you for the favour you saved me the trouble of moving my things downstairs.” I chimed then glanced at Viktor.

“Move my things to the second master’s bedroom,” I instructed. Each floor had a master’s bedroom, and honestly, staying on the ground floor would save me the stress of running into them.

Viktor was hesitant, and my eyes turned cold. “What are you waiting for?” I asked him. He shuddered then quickly scrambled away.

Amelia’s teeth were gritted, “You are still acting stubborn Braelyn.” She hissed.

I turned around and walked towards the direction of my new bedroom. “You might have changed the interior decor, moved me out of the master’s bedroom but one fact still stands…” I drawled flashing her a smile.

“You are still Miss Sinclair, just a mistress warming his bed…you are nothing more than a surrogate with a borrowed womb.” I let the words hang between us.

“He loves me, you are just jealous.” She retorted. I arched my brow at her, covering my mouth as I laughed softly.

“Enough to make you a mistress…” I asked, then smirked. “Be happy I chose the second master’s bedroom. The servant’s room you chose to humiliate me is pretty close to the kitchen, and if you know Raphael well enough, he loves going to the kitchen for midnight snacks. I am sure you don’t want your lover running into me.”

Her fist clenched, I could feel her gaze on my back.

The entire villa had indeed been changed down to the paint. It was shocking that she left my photos hanging on the wall. I stood by the door supervising the servants as they moved my things into the new bedroom.

Although I still held my head high, there was obviously discomfort in my heart. Did I hate the fact had finally taken over the only place I called home?

I hated it to my bones but I wasn’t going to dance to her music. I wasn’t going to give her the satisfaction she craved. There was no need to fight for the former room, honestly, this was kind of to my favour.

“We are done?” A maid informed me. I nodded satisfied with the arrangements. Then it hit me,

“Where is Silvia? I haven’t seen her.” I asked. Silvia was one of the closest maids to me. She was serving in my old family estate and had followed me after marriage.

“She resigned while you were away.” I was informed.

My eyes narrowed, why would Silvia resign without informing me? My fist curled up. Did Amelia also get rid of the servants close to me?

“Did she mention the reason why she changed jobs?” I asked, and the maid looked hesitant to answer.

We were the only ones left in the room. “I wasn’t close to her so I have no idea.”
