Chapter 151: Before The Feast

A mischievous glint flickered in Lara’s eyes, and she asked, “When did the two of you start to live together like a husband and wife?”

Rion heaved a defeated sigh, knowing well that there was nothing else he could say to make his mother believe otherwise.

“From last night,” he replied with a faint smile.

Upon seeing his bland reaction, Lara clicked her tongue and complained, “Aw! I wanted to see you get all flustered!”

’Which one of us is the child again?’ He genuinely wondered and shifted in his bed to stand.

Before he could step down, Lara closed the distance between them and said gently, “Let’s talk for a few minutes…”

He turned his head towards her and frowned, “Is something wrong?”

Lara shook her head, settled on Dora’s bed and spoke with a low chuckle, “Do I have to wait till something is wrong to talk to my own son?”

Rion scratched the back of his head and mumbled with a wry smile, “That’s not what I meant…”

Another chuckle escaped her.

She looked at his face and said, “Seeing you react like this makes me remember how grateful and joyous I am for being your mother… It makes me remember how complete I felt after holding you in my arms for the first time.”

Rion smiled faintly as the memories of his first day in this world began to resurface in his head.

Lara continued, “When you called me mama, when you walked for the first time and even when you tried to get your father in trouble. Everything made me realise that there is so much more to life.”

The memory of how he would begin to tear up whenever Haden forced him to play with other kids and make friends resurfaced.

Her smile thinned, and her expression darkened slightly as she added, “After everything that I lost to the war, I thought I’d never love anyone except your father, but you proved me wrong.”

She met his eyes with hers. “Back then, I wanted to shield you from the world… but now I believe that maybe you’ll be someone that the world needs… maybe you are heaven’s child.”

The reminiscing glint in Rion’s eyes faded, and he muttered with a tilted head, “Heaven’s child?”

“In the Leonara kingdom, we have a story that each mother tells her child… I didn’t tell you before because the tribe’s laws stopped me, but with The Remnant looming over our heads, I want to at least tell you something about my motherland,” she explained slowly.

He nodded silently, not knowing what to say. He wanted to hear the words that she was about to say, but at the same time, he didn’t want her to tell him just because of The Remnant.

’It feels like she is forcing herself to tell me,’ he commented inwardly.

Lara’s lips arched upwards, and she shook her head. “I am not telling you this because I am feeling hopeless. I simply wish to tell you something that circumstances had stopped me from before.”

“It’s just surprising for you to tell me anything about the outside world,” he remarked.

“I know.” She nodded and said, “The heaven’s child is said to be born from heaven, and before you ask, I don’t know what that is, but the heaven’s child is said to be immensely talented and the one who is supposed to mend the heaven.”

’Heaven… as in the realm of gods?’ He wondered.

Lara’s voice reached him the next moment, “Every person views heaven differently. Some think of it as a place of joy and happiness, some fancy that it is an object that would lead to eternal peace, but most believe it to be the people of our world.”

Rion’s brows furrowed, and he muttered, “I get why one would think of it as a place and object, but people? How does that make sense?”

Lara shifted from Dora’s bed to his bed, took his hand in hers and explained in a gentle voice, “According to the recorded history, the elves, the giants and the dragons lived with the humans.”

His confusion deepened even further. “What does that have to do with this?”

“But now most don’t even believe that they exist because they have never seen them, but they do exist. They are either trapped or in hiding,” she added.

A conclusion formed in Rion’s head, and he said under his breath, “Heaven’s child is supposed to reunite all of the races once again…”

“Correct,” she smiled, ruffled his hair and stood up on her feet.

“You should get ready for the feast… high commander.”

Rion gave her a sheepish smile, and she left his hut.

“Heaven’s child, huh…” he sighed and stepped down from his bed.

The next hour passed in a blur as Rion got ready for the feast.

At the moment, he was wearing the other set of clothes that Arok had prepared for him.

They were similar to the ones before, but Rion wanted to wear a fresh set of clothes for today.

“Where is Dora?” He grumbled under his breath, and his gaze turned towards the door.

The door flung open, and something brown shot inside.

“Rion!” Dora shouted and leapt at him with her arms wide open.

He grabbed her head, narrowed his eyes and asked, “Why are you acting like this?”

She chuckled nervously, beads of sweat rolled down her face as she stammered, “W-What do you mean?”

He studied her for a moment, and his eyes fell on the white cloth that she had stuffed inside her pouch.

He snatched it out of her pouch, and she yelled, “Wait! Let me explain!”

After spreading it on the bed, he scanned it and mumbled, “What did you…”

Suddenly, his words stopped, he lowered his hand and picked up the white cloth with a dumbfounded expression on his face.

He stared at the corner’s embroidery with wide eyes and muttered, “Why did you sew this…?”

She took a step back and stated with a wide grin, “I wanted to sew what you reminded me of.”

He shot her a deadpan look and spat, “From what way do I resemble a monkey?!”

“Hehehe!”
