Chapter 207: Taking Some Gold

The next day and the days afterwards flashed by as Rion learned the languages, explained his development plan to Marin, took care of Dora, and helped the herbalist camp by listing all of the new herbs they found.

During these days, he also tried to control demonic energy like he had done while saving Dora and while bickering with Karhun, but his attempts were once again fruitless, leaving him no choice but to move on.

However, these two weeks weren’t entirely fruitless.

During the mapping of the red and black mountains, the scouts had found locations that had rare herbs in large quantities and according to Zaelyane, these herbs would be immensely useful, a fact that Rion agreed with.

After that, the days went by as usual and before long, it was time for him to learn all the geographical knowledge he needed for the journey from Lara.

“You should meet Arok,” Marin said, his usual kind smile stretching across his face.

Rion raised an eyebrow and asked, “What for?”

Marin stood up from his chair and responded, “You’ll be leaving tomorrow, so you’ll need to get some coins.”

Rion’s eyes rose in understanding, and he thought, ’It would be better for me to take something valuable instead of trying to earn money by myself.’

He gave Marin a nod, and before Marin could speak further, he left.

Sighing, Marin fell into his chair and mumbled, “So impatient…”

Rion streaked past the warriors, and a few moments later, he stood before the western front’s forge cave.

Ignoring the brutish sounds of beating hammer and wood cutting, he stepped inside the cave and made his way towards Arok’s forge.

As he walked inside, the smell of burning wood and asphalt hit his nose, but he was no longer affected by such minor inconveniences.

After a few slow steps, Arok’s forge fell into his vision, and he found Arok standing by the entrance.

His lips arched upwards, his steps quickened by themselves and Arok, who was examining a one-handed axe, saw Rion coming towards him.

He put down the axe, looked at Rion with a confused expression and asked loudly, “What are you doing here?”

Rion stopped a few steps away from him and said while looking around at the other forges, “We should talk inside.”

Arok stared at him for a few moments before he grumbled, turned out and stepped inside.

Rion followed behind him.

After placing the axe on the last table, Arok turned towards Rion. “What do you want?”

An unexpected chuckle escaped from Rion, and seeing that, Arok commented, “Stop giggling like a little girl and just tell me what you are here for.”

Rion nodded, a faint smile creased his lips, and he said, “I am going to leave.”

Expecting Arok to be surprised, Rion turned silent and waited for Arok’s reaction; however, much to his disappointment, Arok didn’t react at all, and after a few moments of silence, he voiced. “And?”

Rion frowned, pointed at the entrance and explained, “I am not talking about leaving the forge, I am talking about leaving the mountains.”

Arok nodded, folded his arms across his chest and said, “I get that, but what do you want from me?”

Rion opened and closed his lips a few times before he sighed, “I want some kind of rare item or material that I can easily sell for a hefty amount of coins.”

Hearing his words, Arok studied him, turning around, he unlocked the door leading to the treasury and said, “Marin told me about your plans, and to execute them, we would need these minerals… I think it would be better for you to take gold.”

“Gold?” Rion mumbled in confusion. He couldn’t understand why Arok was talking of gold like he was talking of dirt. Gold was rare and had multiple uses, so it made no sense.

Arok nodded, hands moving through heaps of minerals and materials in search of the impurified gold that he had received from the mines.

“As we lack the right methods and people, gold is useless for us, but the same gold is very important for the outsiders.”

Understanding dawned on Rion, and he commented inwardly, ’Ah.. so we just don’t have the required facilities to make use of gold…’

’That totally makes sense,’ he remarked in his head, and his gaze shifted towards the treasury’s open door.

The treasury was much emptier than before because Arok had used most of the materials to forge armour and weapons for the last war against The Remnant.

Most thought that Arok was greedy, but Rion knew that wasn’t true — Arok didn’t take the extra materials for himself; instead, he was storing them only to provide the best of the equipment and weapons during the time of importance.

Sounds of heavy rolling and crashing resounded from within the room as Arok searched for the gold, and after about five minutes, he walked out of the treasury with a large nugget of gold.

Just by seeing it, Rion could guess that it was at least ten kilograms of pure gold, excluding the impurities.

Arok placed the gold nugget onto a table and remarked with a wide grin, “Take it, boy.”

The next moment, Rion appeared beside him, and before he could even see, he picked up the gold nugget and walked back to his previous spot.

Sensing that the nugget was gone, Arok blinked a few times.

He looked at Rion, and seeing him stare at the large gold nugget with starry eyes, he burst into laughter.

Turning around, he shouted in a frustrated tone, “Go, leave me alone!”

Rion flashed him a smile and stated, “Thanks, old man!”

Arok’s lips arched upwards, and just as Rion was about to leave, he mumbled, “Take care of yourself.”

Rion halted in his steps. “I will.”

Arok lowered his head and mumbled softly, “Do not get into useless trouble.”

“I won’t get in any trouble.”

“Make sure not to forget anything.”

“Now, you are just making fun of me.”

Taking a deep breath, Arok said, “Come back soon…”

Rion turned his head towards him and stated with a beautiful smile, “I will come back as fast as I can.”
