Chapter 266: Performing Sorcery
After a week, Rion sat in the library with three bundles of books on the table before him.
These books were on Runes, Ruins, and Herbs.
As Rion had memorized the knowledge books of all three of them, he could learn anything related to them with a single glance, and that was why he had asked Malikeya for these books.
’Let’s get to it.’
Without wasting any more time, Rion unwrapped the first bundle, picked up the topmost book, and began flipping through its pages.
These books were about ruins whose information he personally needed, as Haden had once told him that knowledge that couldn’t be shared was usually carved into the walls of these ruins for anyone who could understand them.
Within seconds, he finished the first book and went on to read the next.
Seeing him do that, the librarian who was glancing at him while hiding beside a shelf shook his head in disappointment and left the place.
Ten minutes passed, and Rion finished all the books about ruins.
He placed them on top of one another and tied them with the rope before setting the bundle aside.
He picked the second bundle, untied the rope, and began reading.
These books were about runes, which he wanted to learn because of how useful they were, and also because they would allow him to do rune smithing without having to learn it from the beginning.
As elves were more knowledgeable with runes than with ruins, it took him twenty minutes to flip through all of the books, and he finally set down the last book.
He leaned back in his wooden chair and mumbled, “Runes sure are brilliant. To think it’s the first symbols that the Mother of Elves had made to categorize creation itself.”
He rubbed his face, a chuckle escaped him, and he added with a baffled expression, “But even elves can’t use true sorcery… what they use are invocation sorcery and sacrificial sorcery.”
In invocation sorcery, the person spoke words while channeling ether to their vocal cords, and in sacrificial sorcery, the person used other items as a carrier to perform sorcery.
Both of which were much easier than rune smithing, as they used symbols that the Mother of Elves had made, and to even write them, the person needed a strong will.
“True sorcery allows one to bend the world to their will,” he mumbled with an awed expression before he shook his head and muttered, “Focus, Rion. You have more books to flip through.”
He tied the books of runes in a bundle and set it beside the previous one as his gaze drifted towards the last bundle.
The last bundle was about herbs, and Rion had only picked it up because when did herbs not come in handy?
This bundle was the tallest, as most of the elves could tend the herbs and were also curious about them.
He began flipping through the books, and around an hour later, he placed the last book and tied the last bundle.
“To think there are so many kinds of herbs,” he mumbled as he stood up and walked towards the exit.
’I would’ve never thought there was a herb to make that bigger… It’s truly a fantasy world, isn’t it?’ He chuckled at his own thoughts as he walked, and the words of the nearby elves drifted in his ears.
“How long are those humans going to stay here?”
“I have no clue, Ameldiya.”
“The royal daughter is giving them too much importance. Did she forget what the texts say?”
“I’ve heard they came with Zaelyane.”
“That I know.”
“Then you should also know she was supposed to be the royal daughter instead of Sister Malikeya.”
“What?” Rion stopped in his tracks and mumbled, “I can understand the elven language…”
’That’s not the important thing, Rion!’ He shook his head. “What did she just say? Zaelyane was supposed to be the royal daughter instead of Malikeya…?”
As those words left him, he remembered what she wanted from him.
’Does she not become one because she had left the settlement?’ He wondered, as it was the only conclusion that made perfect sense.
’I shouldn’t dig into her life,’ he mumbled in his head as he disappeared.
Using Zone Relocation, he appeared before Zaelyane’s hut and walked inside.
Hearing the door creak, Zaelyane looked at the door and watched Rion enter with his usual smile on his face.
Seeing him, she furrowed her brows and muttered, “You are already back?”
He nodded. “I am.”
She frowned and asked, “Weren’t you going to read all the books related to runes, ruins, and herbs?”
He fell into the chair opposite her and said, “I read them.”
“What…?” She blinked a few times and mumbled, “Didn’t you leave two hours ago?”
“I did.” He agreed with a nod.
She pressed her lips into a thin line and stared at him as if she were staring at something disgusting.
Offended, he asked with a frown, “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Why do you think?” She questioned back and snorted before going back to reading her book.
’She doesn’t believe me, huh…’ Rion thought to himself, then he rose from his chair and said, “What if I prove it to you?”
She lowered her book. “What?”
“What would you give me if I prove to you that I have learned everything?” He asked with a faint smile.
“What do you want?” She mumbled with a curious gleam in her eyes.
His smile widened. “I’ve heard that Leonara has been in a civil war for the last thirty years. I am sure a dozen elven healers would be helpful when I stop all of that.”
She gave him an impressed look before she said, “I’ll ask Malikeya about it.”
“That’s all I need,” he stated as he closed his eyes, channeled ether to his vocal cord and spoke, “hO, rethoM! EnihT dlihc si dloc, evig mih htmraw!”
(Oh, Mother! Thine child is cold, give him warmth!)
Hearing those words, Zaelyane shot up from her chair and asked with wide eyes, “How did you—”
However, her voice was drowned by the currents of warm wind swirling around Rion.
His lips widened, and she muttered, shocked, “Why is it this strong…?”
