Chapter 274: “Go Take A Break.”
“That’s probably something a corrupt person would do, though.”
His words rang out across the area as if a town’s bell, and everyone’s eyes widened in disbelief.
The crowd fell utterly silent and looked at Hector for whatever response he had.
“Why would I disrespect one of the potential soldiers that will be fighting with me?” Hector muttered with an impassive face.
Everyone understood the underlying meaning of his words, and some couldn’t help but agree.
Bael looked way too fresh and unblemished for someone suited for the war.
Hearing him, Bael tilted his head and asked with a faint smile, “As you judge one’s abilities based on their appearance, how does it make sense you put someone scared above someone who is not?”
Confusion spread across the crowd, and Hector’s lips formed a slight frown.
The crowd murmured.
“What is he talking about?”
“Obviously, those who take deadly challenges would be left with some kind of scars.”
“Yeah. He is trying to bullshit his way in!”
“You hear them, don’t you?” Hector mumbled as his lips arched upwards.
Bael smiled as well and muttered, “But what if someone is just too exceptional at what they do? What if they are just too good to be scared?”
“He does have a point.”
“Hmm… that does make sense.”
“But we can’t use exceptions as norms… that would be stupid.”
“Are you implying that you are such an exception?” Hector asked with a condescending look on his face that said he’d rather believe that shit could turn into gold than that.
“I am. But none of us is going to believe some words, right?” Bael added with his arms opened wide.
The crowd shouted, “Yeah!”
He looked at Hector and suggested, “Then why don’t you test me, Sir Hector?”
Hector glanced at the crowd before he turned around and said, “Follow me.”
’Heh. This is going to be fun,’ Bael thought as he followed behind Hector.
As they walked, the crowd cheered or cursed Bael, and he waved his hand towards those who truly believed in him.
They stepped inside the training grounds where trainees were testing the recruits, and Hector muttered, “I, Hector Gilbert, will now oversee the test of…”
“Bael,” Bael muttered with a playful smile stretching across his face.
Other knights and knight trainees scoffed at his lack of respect and his ignorance of Hector’s status as a superhuman.
“Let the test begin,” Hector announced, and just stayed at his place.
Bael didn’t move either, and for the next minute, they just stood at their spots doing nothing.
“To actually pass this test, you have to land a blow. Yet you stand there unmoving. Do you wish to be disqualified?” Hector asked flatly.
Confusion spread across Bael’s face, and he muttered, “Shouldn’t you be moving? You are the one who called me unworthy. Shouldn’t, as a knight, you prove your words?”
Hector heaved a sigh and mumbled, “Your snarky remarks won’t help you win.”
“I am just stating what is before me. If you find it disrespectful, then you are just that pathetic and incomplete, as I am saying what I see,” Bael responded with his usual smile on his face.
For the first time, fury colored Hector’s face, and he spewed, “You truly are exceptional at using your tongue.”
“I wouldn’t want to hear that from a man.” Bael chuckled.
Hector finally unsheathed his sword and dashed forward while the dust blew away from him.
Bael grabbed the mythiron daggers hanging on the hooks beside his waist, and just as Hector’s sword was about to cleave him in two, he deflected it with one and pointed the other at Hector’s neck.
Hector jumped back and said, “You got lucky.”
Bael sneered and gestured for Hector to come again.
Hector followed, and his sword gleamed faintly as he channelled some of his aura into it.
Seeing him use aura, the crowd turned dumbfounded, but what happened next caused their eyes to widen beyond belief.
Bael’s daggers gleamed as well, and once the weapons met, sparks flew from the collision, and Bael mumbled, “You aren’t too bad… You can be proud of being slightly better than bad.”
Veins bulged across Hector’s face, and he began to swing his sword more seriously than before.
Bael, of course, easily dodged all of his attacks and used the daggers as if he had always been using them as weapons.
Red aura flames danced across Hector’s figure as he used his aura to pin him down. However, Bael easily overpowered his aura with his own.
All of Hector’s attacks slid off his daggers; his kicks and punches were narrowly dodged.
With each passing second, Hector became more furious and frantic while Bael stayed calm with a smug smirk crossing his face.
Once Hector was drenched in sweat, Bael threw a punch to his face and muttered, “Go take a break.”
Golden flames flared around his hand, and he slammed his fists into his face.
Hector flew off his feet and crashed into the arena beside them.
Even though Hector was stronger than regular superhumans, to Bael, he was just a toy to display his strength.
The recruitment center fell silent, and all stared at Bael with bafflement before one of them shouted.
“A nebula?!”
The words easily spread across the place, and that was his goal; he needed the attention of those in power without being too mysterious, and this was the best place to do it.
His connection with Count Barely would also help create an image of a strong adventurer who wishes to travel around the world.
’They are finally here,’ Bael thought as another knight with dark hair and tired gray eyes walked over to his arena and said without even glancing at Hector, “You’ve won.”
Bael glanced at Hector and said, “I believe so.”
The knight nodded as he offered a badge with the Kingdom’s insignia and said, “Congratulations on joining the army.”
Bael took the badge and muttered with a grin, “That’s just great.”
