Chapter 208: The Last Night

“Pretty close, huh…” Rion mumbled before he dismissed the screen and began to walk towards his parents’ hut.
’To make sure that no one sees us and we have no issue moving through the forest, we would leave as soon as the sun comes out,’ he remarked inwardly while clenching his fist
He still remembered how he had rebelled against Lara to join the Redwood Den just so he could leave the mountains, and tomorrow he would actually be doing what he had always thought of doing.
But unlike before it wasn’t just to see the vast, beautiful world; instead, it was to get Dora cured and gain as many benefits as possible before returning to the tribe and reforming it into a kingdom.
The reason why Rion wanted to reform Dhaevrak into Pantheon was to build an environment that would allow the warriors to grow without any issues, and that was important for them to contend against them.
Even though he didn’t know who they were, the way Haden and The Remnant talked of them was enough for him to understand that they weren’t to be taken lightly.
While walking back, he had made sure to use Rhaek’s stealth aura technique so no one could see him and within a handful of minutes, he reached his parents’ hut.
He knocked on the door, and Lara opened it soon after.
Seeing that no one was at the door, Lara frowned. Pushing her head out, she looked around but once again found no one.
Dumbfounded, she closed the door and mumbled while stepping further inside, “Are my ears ringing—”
“Boo!”
Spooked, Lara raised her hand towards the sound and quickly performed the hand signs needed for ether art.
While doing so, she finally saw the person who had frightened her and seeing the stupid grin stretching across Rion’s face, a vein throbbed at her forehead, and she spat, “Wind burst.”
“W-Wait!” He raised his arms in defeat, but it was already too late. The space before her fingertips trembled, and a green ball shot out of it.
It struck Rion right at the centre of his chest.
The ball exploded, throwing him off his feet and sending him crashing into the hut’s wooden wall.
“Ouch,” Rion imitated being hurt, but Lara knew him too well to fall for such an effortless act.
Clicking her tongue, she muttered, “Did you finally get time from your girlfriend?”
He shook his head, shot back to his feet and replied with a calm smile, “Why are you saying it like I only care about her?”
Lara looked at him with a deadpan expression and remarked, “Because you only care about her?”
He frowned and mumbled with a tilted head, “I also care about you, Father, big sis, Marin, Arok, Chieftain and my friends?”
“Then how come you are only coming to see me on the last day?” She scoffed.
Shaking his head, Rion answered, “Just because I didn’t come to see you doesn’t mean I don’t care. Dora’s parents are too old and weak to take care of her, so I have to stay with her.”
“Ugh! Stop explaining it to me!” She stomped on the wooden floor and looked away from him.
Seeing her childish act, a chuckle escaped him.
On the other hand, a faint smile appeared on Lara’s face, and she asked, “What do you want?”
He sighed and answered without even trying to argue that he didn’t come for anything, “I want you to tell me about the outside world… more specifically, the way to our destination.”
Lara turned her head towards him and stated with a smirk, “You just came for that, didn’t you?”
He signed once again and thought, ’Lately I am sighing a lot…’ thinking that, another sigh escaped him, and he said, “I also came to meet you before leaving the next morning.”
Hearing that, her expression turned sombre, and she mumbled, “You don’t have to remind me…”
He smiled wryly, and she asked, “So what is your destination?”
Staring into her eyes, he could see that she was reluctant to tell him, yet she was forcing herself to help him as much as she could.
He smiled inwardly, his hand moved to his chin, and he stated while rubbing it with a thoughtful look, “According to what Zaelyane has told me, we would first have to go to a coastal kingdom, then we would board a ship to the Veiled Islands.”
“Oh? Elves live within the Veiled Islands?” Lara asked with a curious gleam in her eyes.
Rion nodded. “I believe so… she hasn’t told me for sure though.”
Rubbing her chin, she said, “Get me a parchment, I’ll draw it for you.”
He untied the leather pouch strapped to his waist, took out a folded leather parchment with a piece of hardened charcoal, sharpened and dressed in thin fur to make it somewhat similar to a pencil.
Lara raised an eyebrow at the makeshift pencil and mumbled, “How do you even know about these?”
Rion tilted his head. “Know about what?”
A baffled chuckle left her lips.
She spread the leather parchment on the floor. Afterwards, she began to draw the crude map, and while she was doing so, she also explained everything to him,
“The red and black mountains are very spread out, so the best path for your journey would be to the east…
After you travel around one to two thousand kilometres east, you would reach the first human settlement, the bordering town of the Bulorka Kingdom.
From there, you can get a carriage to travel to the Neptuma Federation, and that’s where you can board a ship to the Veiled Islands.”
He listened carefully, and Lara suddenly tapped onto the name of Neptuma Federation and said, “Neptuma Federation is ruled by a council of four dukes, who are called east, west, north and south dukes… the wife of the south duke is my friend, so you can ask them for assistance…”
Rion nodded, eyes fixed on the map.
She stood up, pulled him into her embrace and whispered with tears gathering at the edge of her eyes, “Take care, Rio…”
He hugged her back and mumbled with a warm smile, “I won’t disappoint you.”
“I know you won’t… I know, my child…”
