A few soldiers seemed to understand what Enris was trying to detail, though to Bael it was nothing but sugarcoated bullshit.

’He is making them seem rebellious to the nobility’s wishes, while what he actually wants is to play king…’ Bael remarked in his head and spoke in Jareb and Henry’s heads, who were lost for words.

He walked before the soldiers.

The nobles and Bael also joined the soldiers, and William announced, his voice reaching to the very end of the lines.

“At the moment, we have a total of four hundred soldiers. All of you will form platoons of forty members, which will result in ten platoons, even though it sounds very low. You have to understand that this isn’t the only war camp, and more recruits are being sent to the camps every five hours.”

“Our camp has the duty to oversee the east of the battlefield, so we are to check for any possible enemy infiltration. Understand?”

The soldiers slammed their fists into their chestplates and shouted in unison, “Understood!”

“Do what?” He muttered with an amused expression.

Henry looked at him with a deadpan expression and said, “You spoke in our heads.”

“Hmm?” Bael tilted his head and mumbled with a puzzled expression, “Do you think I am stupid?”

The two looked confused, and he spat, “You two are in this together, aren’t you? To think you’d try to make fun of me!”

“What?” Their confusion deepened even further.

“What are you saying? It was clearly your voice,” Henry mumbled with narrowed eyes.

“How does one even speak in someone’s head… how would that even work?” Bael mumbled under his breath.

“I haven’t even heard a nebula do that,” he added before he looked at them and asked, “You sure your ears weren’t ringing?”

The two noble boys frowned and looked at each other. Even they couldn’t believe it was possible, and, seeing how Bael was acting, they were sure he wasn’t the one who had done it.

“Then who?” They whispered at the same time.

Seeing them, Bael shook his head and thought, ’It’s too early to reveal my real strength to anyone. I have to earn their trust and only then would I reveal my strength and identity.’

“Young masters, do you really wish to fight with us?” One of the soldiers of their platoon questioned with a worried expression.

Jareb and Henry looked at him and answered at the same time, “Of course. Why else would we say that then?”

“It won’t be the first time nobles have gone back on their words,” said another soldier.

They frowned, and Jareb said, “Even if we do everything we can, we won’t be able to change that thought because it’s something that had been forged over decades, if not centuries, of such events.”

“But we can be different. We can be exceptions to that,” Henry added with determined eyes.

The soldiers nodded and looked at the two with impressed expressions.

“I truly hope you stay the same,” said the first soldier.

Jareb shook his head. “We have to change. How else would we grow then? We have to change for the good.”

The soldiers’ respect for them increased even further.

As Bael, no, Rion looked at them; he saw the young warriors of Dhaevrak who trained day and night to keep the people safe from the kareths and, now, the ether beasts.

’Not everyone needs to be thrown into the maw of death to become a warrior… some are born with a warrior’s heart, or should I say a noble’s heart? Haha!’
