The horses galloped and pushed the carriages through the busy streets of the capital towards their destination — the most well-known inn of the capital, Barligrahm Inn.

Usually, when a noble came to the capital, they didn’t stay in inns because they were too unsafe and were considered too low-class for them.

The corners of Calvus’s lips lifted into a smile, and he said, “It was unlike any experience I have had before… Especially the camping in the wild.”

Rion’s gaze shifted towards Salis. “Let’s go inside.”

Salis nodded, and all of them walked towards the entrance of the inn.

As they did so, the nearby citizens looked at them in surprise because they had never seen a noble from outside the capital or the regions nearby stay at an inn.

While they walked towards the entrance, Yuura appeared beside Rion and mumbled while looking back from the corner of his eye, “My liege…”

“Don’t worry about them,” Rion whispered, turned his head towards Yuura, and spoke in a low voice, “Ignore them — They are sent by the crown to keep an eye on us.”

“Huh? Why would they want to keep an eye on us?” Yuura asked with a confused expression.

At that moment, they reached the inn’s entrance, and Rion explained while looking at the young receptionist, “Because it’s been fifteen years since the house Barely has graced the capital with its presence, the crown doesn’t know what kind of thoughts they hold, so they sent their spies to find out.”

“Oh… but why?” Yuura asked as he still couldn’t understand why someone who ruled a whole kingdom would perform such petty acts.

“Allying with the strongest helps cement the Crown’s rule, yes. But a person of such worth can demand anything in return. So the Crown drafts treaties instead — granting special privileges while binding them to a fixed residence or placing them under watch. It is a delicate arrangement.”

“After all, strength answers to no one… and you never know when such a person may change their mind…” Rion finished his explanation, and they reached the reception.

The young receptionist showcased a bright smile and asked softly, “Welcome to the Barligrahm Inn. Please let me know how we can serve you?”

Rion stepped forward and stated with a smile, “We want to rent four of your best rooms for a week. Is that possible?”

The young receptionist nodded her head and said, “It is possible, yes.”

“That’s great, how much would that be?” Rion asked while stretching his lips into the most friendly smile he could.

“The stay for one day is ten silver, which includes the bath, lunch, breakfast, dinner, and other services,” she stated with a smile no weaker than his.

’What did she just say? Did I hear it wrong?’ Rion blinked a few times and mumbled, “Ten silver per day???”

She nodded and added after a look of realisation appeared on her face, “Ah, seven silver a room.”

’Is she crazy?’ He wondered seriously.

He studied her with narrowed eyes and asked in a sharp tone, “Young miss. Just because we are from outside the capital, you think you can scam us?”

The young receptionist’s smile faltered, the corners of her lips twitched, and she muttered, “Why would I do such a thing? Our inn’s service is simply just that great.”

Rion stared at her with narrowed eyes and mumbled, “Is that so? But we don’t need those services.”

She frowned and muttered in a colder tone, “Even without the services, it will cost you four silvers per room for each day, so why not just have them—”

“What?!” Rion placed his hands on the desk and asked while leaning on it, “How the hell is it still four silver per room?”

Seeing his face so close to hers, her cheeks turned pink, and she stammered, “W-Well, the f-food…”

“Huh?” He tilted his head and stated, “Two silvers per room. We would only have breakfast.”

“O-okay…” she mumbled.

He stepped back and mumbled, “Why the hell would we have lunch and dinner here instead of enjoying the festival? Tch.”

Shaking his head, he turned towards Dora and mumbled, “Isn’t that right—”

But his words got stuck in his throat as Dora was glaring at him with clenched fists, and Zaelyane, who was supporting her, commented with a disgusted expression, “Womaniser.”
