Chapter 275: War Camp

Bael put the badge on his vest and boarded a carriage, which was about to depart for the soldiers’ tents located south of the decided battlefield.

Seeing him climb the carriage, the other recruits gave him weird looks that Bael ignored and leaned back in his seat with his eyes shut.

Even though his eyes were closed, his Zone was wide open, and he could sense everything within a radius of seven kilometers.

’We should be able to reach the camp within a day,’ he remarked in his head.

’I would finally be able to meet some of the big players.’

The driver pulled the reins, and the horses let out a high-pitched cry as the carriage began to move.

The streets blurred as the horses galloped through the capital and made their way towards the camp.

During this, Bael sensed Yuura and Zaelyane within some shady place, but decided to ignore it for now; both of them were strong enough to take care of themselves.

“Did we do the right thing by joining the kingdom’s side?” One of the recruits asked with a worried expression.

“It doesn’t really matter which side we join. Both have equal strength and power, but the kingdom has more gold, so it isn’t hard to decide,” answered the one sitting opposite him.

“That’s correct. We adventurers only care about gold, so it would be stupid not to join the richer party,” said the one beside him.

“Maybe I am just overthinking this…” mumbled the recruit who had voiced the question, and all of them began to chat.

Bael stayed silent throughout the journey, and a few hours later, they reached the camps.

The carriage came to a stop, and all the recruits stepped down.

Bael stepped towards the camp, and his gaze landed on a wooden fence with two normal knights standing as the guards at its entrance.

’It doesn’t look too grand,’ he thought, and just as he took a step, he froze.

The next moment, he instantly compacted his Zone and mumbled, surprised, “Someone there has a Zone…”

It was obviously not as strong or big as his, but it was the first Zone he’d encountered that carried any real strength.

Malikeya also had a Zone, but hers was too weak and scattered; however, this one was as good as the Zone he had made the first time while training with Haden.

’Seems like things are about to become interesting,’ he thought with a smile and walked towards the entrance.

The guards checked their badges to make sure they weren’t forged, and after five minutes, they allowed them entry.

Tents filled the place, and at the center of all the tents was the commander’s tent, which was much bigger and grander than any other.

The other recruits that had come with him entered a tent together, and Bael walked to the one closest to the king’s.

As he neared the tent, his Zone became smaller and smaller until it was no wider than ten meters.

He stepped inside the tent, and as he did so, his gaze fell on two figures sitting in the two beds of the tent.

One of them was a blue-haired teenage boy with dark eyes and an attire too flashy for the place.

The other was a brown-haired teenage boy with deep gray eyes and somewhat more suitable attire for his current predicament.

Seeing Bael enter the tent, the two narrowed their eyes and muttered at the same time, “Who are you?”

They glared at one another. “Shut up!”

“Ughh!” They clenched their fists and looked away.

“I am Bael,” Bael answered as he stepped further inside the tent.

“What’s your family name?” Asked the brown-haired boy, and the other seemed to have the same question.

“I am not a noble,” Bael added as he sat at the edge of a bed and smiled at the two.

Both of them frowned, and the blue-haired boy spat, “You dare enter our tent—”

“I dare.” Bael nodded. “I also dare kill you, if that’s what you wish.”

The two boys burst laughing at his threat and said, “Do you think you’d be safe once you do that?”

“Maybe not,” Bael shrugged and asked with an eerie grin, “But doesn’t matter?”

A shiver ran down both of their spines, and they stammered, “W-What do you m-mean?”

Bael pointed at his head and muttered, “Think about it.”

He swiped his thumb across his neck. “Does it really matter what happens to me when you are already dead? It might make you somewhat relieved, but it won’t give you your lives back.”

The two noble boys’ expressions turned grave, and they mumbled, “That’s true…”

“But that depends on whether you can actually kill us,” the blue-haired boy added with narrowed eyes.

“Correct!” Bael clapped once and asked with a tilted head, “Do you wish to find out if I can or not?”

The boys fell silent, and Bael asked, “What are your names?”

The blue-haired boy looked at him with a worried expression and said, “Jareb Hilmor.”

Bael repeated his name under his breath and looked at the other one. “What about you?”

The brown-haired boy looked at his rival before he answered, “Henry Solias.”

“Alright,” Bael muttered, “You don’t worry about me being here, I wouldn’t cause any problem to you.”

“You are already doing that by staying here.” They stated at the same time.

Bael smiled. “Stop acting like entitled kids, you are at a war camp. Even if you happen to die, there’s nothing your family can do but cry.”

Their expressions darkened, but Bael wasn’t done yet.

A cruel grin appeared on his face, and he said, “And if you happen to get killed by someone strong, everyone would forget about it so that they don’t lose a strong soldier.”

“The kingdom would never do that!” The two shouted at the same time.

Bael shook his head and stated, “We don’t wish to do that, but situations make it happen.”
