Chapter 165: Dhaevrak VS The Remnant [1]

The humanoid monsters, still unfamiliar with their bodies, lurched forward.

The Remnant clenched his fist, and a dark katana appeared in his hand. This katana was made of pure demonic energy instead of the previous corrupted demonic energy (purple miasma), and because of that, it was much stronger.

From the day he had regained the shred of control over himself, he had begun to store the pure demonic energy in the horns of the kareths to perform his and the kareths’ body reformation.

The demonic energy was a remoulded form of death energy that the Mother had gifted to her children.

The Remnant, being one of the devils with the singularity of eternal chain, was highly dependent on the pure demonic energy, and because of that, he couldn’t use all of his strength until now.

He lifted his katana, pointed it at Haden and roared, “Come. Descendant of war. Thy end draws near.”

Haden’s expression stayed calm, his red aura touched the sky, making it appear as if it was bleeding. He used the instant step and appeared a few meters away from The Remnant.

They looked into each other’s eyes, and the cries of their weapons reverberated everywhere as they clashed.

At the cliff, Varok looked at the monsters coming towards the Redwood Den with a menacing glint in his eyes.

He stepped forward, and a bestial yellow aura flooded outwards of him.

Suddenly, his form began to change. His pale body hardened, turning similar to an ivory statue, then cracks appeared all over it and from those cracks seeped out a blinding yellow light before the whole of the statue burst apart, leaving the figure of a white fur-covered beast who appeared to be a union of both a man and a wolf — A werewolf.

Varok, now in his werewolf form, took a step forward and howled. The air tremored from the howl, and a few of the one-lined to three-lined monsters fell from the intense killing intent that was sleeping out of him.

He slightly bent down and shot forward with his claws wide open.

Rion stood frozen at the spot, his mind blank as he watched everything with his blue eyes, trembling in dreading disbelief.

His gaze was locked on the humanoid monsters. He whispered under his breath, “How…?”

It wasn’t his first time seeing them; he had seen a similar monster before.

His eyes drifted towards The Remnant, and he mumbled while the memories of the dark world replayed themselves in his head, “It was you…”

He had finally learned the answer to two of his questions. The Remnant was indeed the chain that used to bind The Great One, and the humanoid figure that he had watched on was indeed one of the Mothers.

However, seeing it didn’t make it easy to believe. How could he just accept that the being that had been the Dhaevrak’s shackles was nothing but a chain? Even then, there was simply nothing he could do except accept the truth playing out before him.

He took a deep, shaky breath and pushed away all of the unnecessary thoughts.

He gazed at everyone for a moment.

Haden was clashing against the Remnant.

Varok was clawing through the hordes of monsters, making his way towards the five six-lined at the rear.

Marin and Valak were commanding the warriors.

Zaelyane and Arok had gone back to their respective healing and repairing camps that were just at the edge of the Redwood Den.

The humanoid monsters were just hollow bodies. They could move because of the null cores that were being controlled by the treacherous amalgamation of the damned souls trapped within the Corrupted Abysmal Flame.

Because of that, they felt no fatigue, but the same wasn’t true for the warriors, which was why the camps had been established. Instead of plunging everyone into the flood of the monsters, they had decided to build dams that would stop it, and just as the dams were to be breached, new ones would take their place.

Rion didn’t move right away; he scanned the battlefield and searched for spots that actually needed him.

He could join Haden, but doing so would be pointless. Haden was strong enough to hold himself against The Remnant.

’They aren’t here,’ Rion noted inwardly, seeing that his group wasn’t part of the first four.

His eyes shifted back at Varok, and he mumbled, “That seems to be the only choice…”

He lifted his spear, spun it in his hand. Golden aura flames roared around him; the aura flames climbed onto his spear.

His grip tightened, and cracks appeared on the ground beneath him as he threw it at one of the six-lined with all of his strength while declaring in his head, ’I can kill it.’

The spear cut through the air, making its way towards the target, and whoever it went past was thrown off by the heavy gust following it.

Varok, who was cutting through the three and four-lined monsters, suddenly froze mid-swing. His fur stood up, and sweat drenched him as his instincts warned him of impending death.

A furious gust of wind hit him from behind, and his gaze fell on the dark spear that was streaking towards one of the six-lined.

He tore his gaze to the back, and Rion fell into his vision. His lips parted, and he mumbled in a scared voice, “What was that…?”

The lunging serpent spear that had the momentum and the aura neared the six-lined.

Unlike Varok, the monsters only had subpar instincts, and before it could even try to dodge or block the spear, it pierced right through its core.

The ground quaked, and dust rose upon the impact.

Everyone except Haden and The Remnant stopped for a moment.

Zoka lifted his large double-bladed axe, chopped a two-lined monster into two and roared, “Glory to the High Commander!”

The others followed. They killed one of the monsters and shouted, “Glory to the High Commander!”

Within moments, the place that was filled with monstrous roars and war cries was seized by a single chant.

“Glory to the High Commander!”
