Chapter 223: Meeting Count Barely

A few hours ago, during breakfast.

Just like the previous night, Rion and Yuura were having their morning meal when someone knocked at the door.

Both of their gazes immediately turned to the door, and Rion mumbled while cutting into a piece of meat, “Open it, Yuura.”

Yuura nodded, stood up from his chair and the next moment he appeared beside the door.

Seeing that, Rion commented in his head, ’To think he already has such fine control over his aura… I am really lucky to have him with me.’

Unlike Rion’s aura, Yuura’s aura was based on precision and allowed him to increase his speed to such a degree that even though Rion’s aura was a realm above his, he was just a few steps slower than Rion.

Yuura pushed open the door, and his gaze landed on a familiar face.

“I hope the meal is to your taste,” Aliyah stated in Soline while presenting a slight bow.

He studied her for a moment before he nodded, turned around and walked back to his chair.

“Miss Aliyah, it’s great to see you again.” Rion flashed her a smile and lowered his utensils.

“It’s good to see you as well,” Aliyah responded with a bow.

Rion nodded, lifted his utensils, and once again began to eat.

Aliyah watched him in silence for a minute. Rion raised the glass and began to drink the water as she delivered the words, “Master has called for you.”

“Pff—!” Hearing her words, Rion spat the water and looked at her with a dumbfounded expression.

He pointed at Yuura and himself and stammered, his eyes widened in disbelief, “Count has called for us?!”

Aliyah nodded and repeated once again, “Yes, Master wishes to see you.”

Rion’s hand shot towards his mouth, and he began to bite his nails and mumbled, “What should we do? What does the count want from us?”

Hearing his mumbles, Aliyah slowly shook her head and said, “Master only wishes to see you, lord Rion.”

Her words drifted through the room as Rion froze in his spot and everyone else fell silent.

The silence continued to stretch until Aliyah, who was finding the atmosphere awkward, silently turned around and left the room.

Just as she closed the doors behind her, Rion mumbled in Dharvik, “I didn’t expect him to act so fast.”

He fidgeted with his fork and added, “Well, considering how fast he was to punish his own son, it won’t be a stretch to call him impatient.”

He wiped his hands with the wiping cloth, stood up from his chair and spoke while making his way towards the door, “Let others know that I am going to meet the count.”

Yuura placed a fist on his heart. “As you command, my liege.”

The corners of Rion’s lips lifted upwards. He pulled open the door and stepped out.

The corridor was empty as he made his way towards the count’s office, but for now, he was walking over to the basin.

After cleaning his hands under the tap water, he dried them using the towels placed by the basin and then finally began to walk towards the count’s office.

As he already knew the whole estate because of his Zone, he didn’t need a servant to help him.

Within a couple of minutes, he passed all of the guards and servants and stood before the door leading to the count’s office and spoke loudly, “C-Count, I-it’s me, Rion.”

Alger didn’t reply till a few moments passed, and afterwards he said, “Get in.”

Rion took a deep breath, pushed open the door and clenched his heart to step inside.

Just as he entered the room, his eyes fell onto the stacks of paper and documents, then the various elegantly designed furniture and lastly Count Alger Barley, who was sitting in his chair.

His hands were on the table, and his eyes were locked onto Rion.

Rion trembled under his gaze and mumbled in a low voice, “I-I was told that you have called for me.”

Alger nodded and said, “Yes, I wished to meet the leader of the victims.”

“I-I see,” Rion stammered while trying his best to look into his eyes.

Alger studied him for a moment and said, “If a noble actually did what you told Calvus, he would not only lose the trust of his people but may as well lose his rank…”

“Huh?! Count Alger, are you calling me a liar?” Rion asked with an offended expression.

Alger shook his head and added, “That would be the case if the said person gets exposed, but if they can do such a thing for the past five years, they would have enough control over the masses to hide it entirely.”

Rion pressed his lips into a thin line and said, “But how does that make a liar? I simply do not know how much control he has over his territory.”

“Indeed, that alone doesn’t prove anything but… if he was as controlling as it would require to do such a thing, why would he allow four of his best workers to run away?”

Leaning forward, he continued, “Why would he not send knights behind you?”

Hearing him, Rion’s expression turned grim. He shook his head and mumbled, “I don’t know… but there’s a chance that because of Dora’s illness, he might have begun to think of us as a liability and sent us to the mountains to die under the attacks of the ether beasts…”

Alger slowly shook his head and said, “That’s not impossible, but it’s very unlikely to be true; each one of you is extremely useful… or the lord that did all of this to you never existed in the first place.”

Outwardly Rion didn’t say anything inwardly, however, ’He is not as bad as I had thought.’ He was praising him.

The silence stretched until Alger stood up from his chair and asked directly, “Who are you?”

Rion scratched the back of his head and replied with a tilted head, “I am Rion…?”

Alger’s eyes turned cold, and he whispered, “What is your real identity?”

Hearing that, Rion’s lips curved upwards, and he answered, “I am a descendant of the gods…”
