Kaelen walked up to Ren, finally giving her the chance to take a proper, unobstructed look at him in the morning light. The physical resemblance to Kael was utterly terrifying.

They had the same sharp, aristocratic jawline and the same intense, glowing golden eyes. But Kaelen’s silky white hair was much longer, tied loosely at the nape of his neck, and his physique was distinctly different. Still, the similarities were uncanny. He could easily impersonate Kael, steal his identity, and completely get away with it in dim lighting. He was also devastatingly, unfairly handsome. The sheer temptation rolling off him made Ren’s knees feel dangerously weak as he stared down at her.

His golden eyes swept over her flushed face, tracking the rapid pulse at the base of her throat.

“It is nice to finally meet the female that made my brother lose his mind, and now, even made him lose his Beast King status.”

Ren swallowed hard. ’Does he hate me?’ she wondered, trying to analyze his tone. It was incredibly smooth, betraying absolutely no malice or anger, leaving her entirely unsure of his true feelings.

Ren took a deliberate step away from his kneeling form, establishing a firm, professional boundary.

“Do not bow to me,” Ren instructed firmly, raising her chin. “There will be no bowing in this village.”

Kaelen stood up with effortless grace. He towered over her, though slightly less intimidatingly than Kael. Ren’s cheeks heated up instantly as he just stood there, staring at her with those piercing, analytical eyes.

“I want to know more about you,” Kaelen stated softly.

A massive, bronzed arm suddenly shot out like a steel barrier. Kael stepped forcefully between them, completely blocking Kaelen’s view of Ren. The former Beast King glared at his younger sibling, a low, warning growl vibrating deep in his chest.

“You can know anything you want,” Kael rumbled defensively, flexing his enormous biceps, “once you defeat me.”

Kaelen didn’t flinch. A slow, highly amused smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. He gracefully reached out past his brother, picking up one of the empty wooden bowls Ren had set near the cauldron.

“A hungry tiger is a weak tiger, big brother,” Kaelen replied smoothly, holding the bowl out toward the bubbling elk stew.
