“I hate you,” Ren wheezed, pushing herself up onto her elbows.

The violent crash of the boat had sent a tidal wave of freezing swamp water washing over both of them. Ren was completely soaked, her fiery red hair plastered to her skull.

Vex laughed, a dark, rich sound that made her stomach flutter entirely against her will. He leaned his forearms on his knees, his eyes locking directly onto hers.

“You always say that,” Vex murmured. “Yet, you never actually say no to me when I touch you. You melt perfectly against my hands. You should really stop lying to yourself, little rose, and simply admit that you like it. Admit that you want it.”

Ren’s entire body flushed with heat, and it certainly wasn’t from the tiny campfire.

“I don’t!” Ren denied vehemently, aggressively crossing her arms to hide her breasts. “It’s just the stupid mating season making my body react weirdly! I already have three incredibly handsome, powerful husbands! What is there to possibly like about you?!”

Vex’s smirk widened into a brilliant, sexy grin. He took her insult as a direct, personal challenge.
