Ren always cursed at the clueless characters in horror movies. The ones who just stood there, screaming at the top of their lungs while the masked killer slowly approached with a weapon.

She had sworn up and down that she would be the ultimate survivor, the one who bolted for the door at the very first sign of trouble. But now, backed against a giant oak tree in the Beast World with her heart lodged firmly in her throat, she was doing the exact same thing.

Kaelen slowly approached her, his bare feet making absolutely no sound against the mossy forest floor. His lean, muscular chest was heaving with erratic, heavy breaths that puffed into the cool morning air.

Suddenly, his golden eye widened in a desperate, horrifying realization. The red was creeping back. He reached out and snatched up a sharp, thick, broken wooden stick from the forest floor.

Without a single second of hesitation, Kaelen plunged the stake directly into his own chest.

Ren screamed.

Almost immediately, the sound of loud, frantic voices and heavy footsteps began rushing toward them through the thick brush. It was Kael and the others. They had smelled the overwhelming stench of fresh blood.
