Chapter 14: Enhancement

Since there was something that proved that he was progressing in the right direction, Michael focused, reading the information on the PDF.

He did not bother to focus on the details of the information contained within the PDF, with his goal only being to acquire the information.

As he immersed himself into reading, his perception of time faded away, and before he knew it, it was already night time.

By this time, Michael had already read several PDFs, and the progress had already reached 83%. Now, only 17% was remaining until he acquired the beginner level unarmed combat skill.

If he had decided to start watching the videos earlier on, Michael believed that the progress would have been a little higher, possibly over 95% by now.

But, Michael wanted to complete reading the information first, before watching the videos. This way, he would be able to reach 100% progress after watching a few videos.

With his stomach growling, Michael stopped reading, before heading to the kitchen. Since he had just bought the groceries today, he wanted to test out the chef skills that he had received the previous day.

As he entered the kitchen, he began preparing the ingredients. And, the way that he was preparing the ingredients was way better as compared to before.

The way that he handled the knife, chopping, slicing and so on, if someone observed from the side, they would think that Michael had been to a culinary school before.

It was only at this point that Michael began understanding the difference between a person who had learned how to be a chef, and a self-taught person cooking their own meals.

The way that the system operated was that, after enough information was acquired, the information would be completely integrated into him.

This involved not only the information itself, but also muscle memory. As Michael began cooking, it was as if he had already done this many times already, not being his first time.

The meal that he was preparing was fried rice, which was cooked rice stir-fried with eggs, vegetables, and soy sauce.

If it had been before, Michael would have been able to easily prepare this dish. But, he would not have correctly followed the steps that were required in the preparation, especially in terms of the timing.

The thing that took most time was obviously boiling the rice. And while the rice was boiling, Michael began watching a video, and as usual, he put the video into fast forward.

Watching a video at a speed 3 times the normal speed was definitely not something that an ordinary person that wanted to gain something from the video would do.

But with the presence of the system, as long as Michael looked at anything, he assumed that the system would be able to collect the information.

It was the same as reading. It was just that, it was not as simple as just looking at the page that had words. Instead, it required Michael to read, not just looking.

As for watching the videos, he could see the actions, though in a fast speed. If it had been in a normal situation, Michael would have not understood anything from the video.

But from the fact that there was an increase in the progress, it was clear that the information was being collected.

By the time that he was watching the third video, the rice had already been cooked. And so, he began the follow-up preparations to complete the preparation of the fried rice.

Several minutes later, sitting at the dining table, Michael looked at the plate in front of him, eyes filled with amazement.

As compared to the fried rice that he had prepared before while living in that rundown apartment, this rice in front of him was more presentable, more attractive.

Additionally, the aroma itself made him start swallowing his saliva. But as he thought about what he was doing, he immediately began eating.

The food could not match the one that he ate from the restaurant before. But at least, he felt that as long as he leveled up the chef skills to the next level, there was a possibility of matching the level of the food that could be found within that restaurant.

After eating, Michael put all of his focus on watching the video. And several minutes later, the progress bar finally reached 100%.

At this point, Michael felt as if he had been training how to fight for several months. He was not sure how long exactly, but it definitely was not something that could be mastered within just a few days.

Additionally, at this moment, Michael felt his muscles beginning to twitch, as if there was something that was moving below his skin.

This sensation felt slightly uncomfortable, but it did not last long. Within just about a minute, the sensation completely disappeared, and at the same time, Michael felt his body had changed.

For some reason, he felt as if his constitution had been enhanced, growing stronger. Additionally, he felt more agile as compared to before.

Considering that for two consecutive years he had been working as an accountant, his body was out of shape.

But now, it felt as if he had been continuously working out for several months, and had managed to bring his body back to its peak condition.

Michael subconsciously began flexing his muscles, as he felt the enhancement that was brought about by the skill.

Thinking of something, Michael took off his shirt, realizing that his previously fragile looking body had actually gotten some muscles.

While his build had not changed by much, but the muscle outlines could be seen. Even the abs had began forming, but it was clear that it would take quite a while for it to be visible from a distance.

As he saw this, Michael began thinking of something else. Was it possible that he could enhance his body to a level that was beyond human standards just by enhancing the level of his combat skill?

If that was possible, then, as long as he was strong enough, he should be able to easily deal with the Shadow Assembly gang.

The Shadow Assembly gang did not depend just on brute strength. They even had guns, though only a few members of the gang possessed them. Thus, if he was not strong enough, he could be shot dead.

But this did not matter. In terms of influence, this was something that he could gain from the store. Just buy a few popular companies, and most of the situations could be easily handled.

As for weapons, he could buy a gun from the store, and with enough skills, he should be able to deal with the threat of guns. In fact, he could even purchase bulletproof vests from the store.

Currently, he had 3 SP, but it was not sufficient. Still, Michael had no any intention of continuing to read at the moment, to advance his combat skill to the intermediate level.

He needed to rest, considering that it was already midnight. So, after freshening up, Michael began sleeping.

The night was uneventful, as Michael slept peacefully.

When he woke up the following day, he felt his body was full of vigor. It was completely different from the previous times when he woke up, feeling as if his body was drained, especially due to him reading deep into the night.

“I guess the combat skills have got quite some benefits.” Michael muttered in a low voice, before heading to the kitchen.

Instead of heading down to get the breakfast, he decided to prepare one for himself. He had bought two loaves of bread from the grocery store the previous day, so, he prepared milk tea, before toasting the bread.

After he was done, Michael once again began downloading the PDFs that dealt with more advanced combat skills.

After doing all that, he began reading the PDFs once again. And in just a little while, there was yet another notification from the system.
