Chapter 199: The escape
Ori keeps looking at the time on his heads up display. Tyr left more than an hour ago and now he is in this office with Salome disguised as Tyr. Ori has spent his time trying to teach Salome to say no. All she does is stand their stiff-backed and sometimes squawks.
The quartermaster returns with another man. The man is a cook of sorts. “So, what did you bring?” Ori dashes in between Salome and Tyr. Ori hands the cook a long sheet of paper. It has a basic description of all the goods they are carrying.
“This is why I hate backwater areas. Where is your pride as a Merchant? Spend a little money a Stock-sight.” The cook throws himself at the table of the quartermaster. He has not read a stock parchment in years.
Ori moves Salome to sit, and He and the quartermaster make some talk. While the cook’s head grows redder, he sighs loudly, ruffling himself around in frustration, not the only thing on his face. He wishes for a Stock-sight even more. The simple ability to be able to magically know everything in stock by hold a rock would make his life easy. He can’t complain, though this man might be his saving grace.
Tyr doesn’t care about the man. He just needs them outside where he can rob them. “Fine! You know what? You three bring these with us. I will take you to the lady and you can ask her all these questions.” As Tyr expects the two soldiers who are afraid murmur with one another, but the third soldier can’t help but be suspicious. He smiles if he can capture this false agent in the presence of lady Organa, that would be a chance at a promotion for him. So he plays along.
“Indeed, we will. The Lady Organa will be pleased.” The third soldier from the house of Selierra, wearing a condescending smile. He also grabs the crate that Tyr wants most. Tyr notes know something is up but with such a rushed operation. His salvation is in the getaway.
Tyr leads them towards the quartermaster’s office. “Where are we going? The dining hall is that way.” The third this time correctly points out they are not going in the right direction.
“How are we going to open those are do you intend to present the lady High Magician with a box that cannot be opened? Might as well ask her to kill me now.” Tyr rubs his neck, it’s a fact that Lady Organa kills people almost for fun. This would normally send the third soldier into a rage, but it is now his neck on the line and he has seen firsthand how Lady Organa makes ashes of men.
“Right, so we are we going?” The soldier asks. This time even his friend’s sigh, not understanding why he is so insistent.
Tyr points into the darkest part of the cave. It is one building still being carved out by constructors. They follow him around a corner leading to the construction only for Tyr to attack the third man. An easy way to avoid suspicion is to cast it on somebody else. Especially if that somebody is right. He works quickly. Everything told him that this NPC is a magician so striking before he can get his defences up.
Tyr had rushed the man and struck him. The soldiers felt each blow in their bones and jump as Tyr speaks to them. The third soldier passed out in his bloody hands.
“This man is a spy! Quickly, go get the royal guard. I will hold him here.” The soldiers look at one another still in a state of shock. “Go NOW!” Tyr shouts as soldiers both move as quick as they can.
Tyr sends a message to Ori.
Five minutes later, sirens blare throughout the camp. The cook looks at the quartermaster, eyes open in fear. He doesn’t want to be in an Eastern Empire raid. The quartermaster knows this whooping siren is for intruders inside the camp. “Sir do you have a hiding spot.”
“Behind my sword has always serves me well.” The quartermaster wants to go to where the fuss is but the whimpering of the cook. The constant raid by the eastern empire is the only good thing about this place.
“Well, I’m no soldier. Take me back to the immediately!” The cook’s station is in the king’s hollowed-out palace. It is the heavily secured area in the ruins and the servants’ area is right at the back, making it one of the safest areas in the area.
“Our men need help. How can you possibly ask this at such a time?” Bound by the law. The quartermaster has to protect an agent of the crown. Even a cook has their value and as a supply manager, he knows the value of those in the indirect line of fire.
Ori goes to the quartermaster, ” put the cook in the backroom and I will protect him. You go save who you can!” Ori needs the quartermaster to leave. That was the context of Tyr’s message.
“I don’t know!” Ori physically pushes the quartermaster out of the room. The man pretending to be overpowered. The man even thanks Ori as he rushes to the sight of the problem. Ori hustles the cook into the back room. Not listening to any of the cook’s complaints. Ori sends Tyr a message who comes out of the shadows the streets here are not well lit.
The guards are all searching for the assailant. When they return, they find the third soldier on the ground. All three chests missing!
“Explain this now,” Chief security officer, Lady Pembroke Rala. A thin killer of a woman with her hair is a space bun. She is as serious as death and sharp as her sword. She looks at the two soldiers who are scrambling to think of anything to say.
“He has a Selierra signet and is arrogant, like them. He told us to get the guards we just did as told.” The one-man trying to lose his job. Lady Pembroke Rala the sword of justice, is both strong and fair but also absolutely ruthless. She is a firm believer in the letter of the law.
“Why did both of you go? In this situation, the regulation is clear.” She signals several of her guards to search around, looking for clues and witnesses. She can see they don’t know the regulation.”Arrest them both for questioning and take this one to the dungeon.’
‘This involves two Selierra personnel. That cannot be a coincidence. I need to be careful. They are full of tricks. Those slimy entitled bastards’ Lady Pembroke knows the folly of accusing without evidence and she will not make that mistake.
Back in the quartermaster’s office, Tyr takes off the clothes. Destroying them with his magic, the signet pops out falling to the ground. Tyr can’t destroy the signet in a short amount of time.
Ori leaning over Tyr’s shoulder, watching keenly. Tyr pours raw magic power into the box. rotating all around. The corner of the box is like switches. These switches can rotate. Tyr works as quick as he can to get all the switches to connect but only at the top. The reason this stumped so many people is that there is no other treasure that uses this lock.
Tyr opens it and immediately eats the Sunstone.
