Chapter 57: The Fundementals

Tyr yells at Rena and Lucinda again. They are not in the proper position to be able to switch properly. Lucinda lets loose the ember of her tiger spirit cannon. The simple support attack delivering a face shot to the Lizardman in front of Amalya.

With their reduced damage, each Lizardman is a real obstacle for the sisters. Nineth Immortal has been observing all this time. Tyr for all his combat tricks is not a very good trainer, ‘ he is not even a Major Payne.’ Sgt Major Payne is her previous guild leader in Astrological empires. She thinks he is too demanding on the girls.

The sisters are new to gaming Oydessy being their first real taste of combat. They have spent most of their time in simulators worlds meant to build a robust set of trade skills. Rena is even a fully qualified Ferrier. This is odd since horses are extinct outside of VR most kids focus on technical jobs skills over traditional trade skills which are mostly operated by state-owned mega corporations that produce most of the solar systems basic foods, materials etc.

This lack of combat experience is not uncommon amongst those under sixteen. This means the sisters are not like the rest of them. The entire leadership of Sunken Reef expect for Lux are veterans.

‘I have to get Lux to open up to me someday. That girl is harder to crack than uncooked instant noodles. Nineth Immortal knows combat experience is something one has to build. When Tyr, SKY Ocean Hunter and Styx were in a folded land. She was leading the conquest of Kolob. In a now-defunct VRMMOKingdom builder called Astrological Empires. Amalya twists her spirit cannon attacking the lizardman. She is using her cannon more like a staff or a spear. As whenever she thrusts her Lion cannon forward. She makes sure that if she can like Tyr told her to lets loose a simple blast. With her increased rate of blocking she is managing better than her sisters. After three hours of training, she finally completes her first fundamental attack pattern.

When Amalya attacks she now fights with her shield raised. The lizardmen being normal opponents use rudimentary attack patterns. Which she is use to now, even though her heart still races. When the Lizardman’s sword slams hard against her spirit shield. She follows her block with a thrust to a vital area. The Lizardmen have many vulnerable areas. Amalyas’ Tiger Spiritcannon roars after being thrust into the gut of the Lizardman. The gut is where their scales are the softest as they often need to gorge on prey. The timing and precision of the strike mean that when she shoots her shot. The attack produces a red damage value which is critical.

Nineth Immortal says, “Rena now it’s your turn go!” At this junctor, the lIzardman is staggered. The perfect opportunity to switch with someone who then repeats the fundamental attack pattern. This is a basic style for all guardians. Only as instructed very poorly by Tyr Rena starts with her Shield Bash. Tyr had expected the girls to be able to read the battlefield like he does and be able to anticipate. Nineth immortal suggested that for the time being, they can use the shield bash to cover the distance in an instant and if they connect with the head it has a larger chance to stun. Tyr is leaping forward occupying the other lizardman he plans to unleash on the girls.

Rena is spooked by Nineth immortal into action. Her slow reaction at the joy from seeing her sister score a critical means that her shield bash. Propels her forward into the side of the lIzardman, not his exposed face. A loud moan can be heard from Tyr somehow he is able to keep an eye on them while fighting his own enemies. Rena at least follows up her shield bash with a simple attack swinging her Lion cannon into the side of the Lizardman. Two animal head shaped balls land on the body of the Lizardman who groans. The lizardman regains his sense and swings his swords. his attack came fast and low clipping the bottom of her spirit shield grazing the side of her body. Rena retaliates right after a lizardman attack is the best time to try to get a critical. As the monster is at their most exposed. Her Lion spirit cannon is thrust unfortunately she is a little short and misses lucky for her she still follows through with the blast. Given this error, Nineth immortal is forced to act she fires Tyr armband crossbow. The simple wooden design is easy to aim at and even easier to shoot. Tyr said since Lord Nogu crafted it himself it should have some form of divine energy. Her normal attack is after including the block value of a lizardman is around sixty-three and with the crossbow and her dexterity each adding about another seventy to sixty damage.

Lucinda who sees that the Lizardman is about to use a fire spell decides to her spirit guardian attack skill. Her hope is to take advantage of the weak spot created when the Lizardman opens his mouth.

Lucinda is shocked by the black damage value. The black damage value is also known as a triple crit. Her skill Spirit shot accelerates forward into the open mouth of the Lizardman. The Leopard leapt down the throat burning all the soft tissue. This counted as a hit to a vital area and a counter with an interupt. Her attacker had interrupted an attack spell causing it to explode inside the monster. Finally being a counter Lucinda’s attack ignored the monster defence meaning that it took the full hundred and twenty-seven damage instead of the normal eighty.

She follows this firey display with a well time pause of three seconds. With Rena retreating she cant attack however, Amalya manages to land another critical. This is mainly because the monster is already stunned by the enormous amount of damage it just received. Her ordinary support is more than doubled as the monster is completely undefended.

Lucinda waits for her mana to return to thirty then she casts her shield bash. Accelerating like the firey spirit leopard before her right into the gut of the Lizardman. The Lizardman slases and swipes his swords a few times in the air to fight his death. The Lizardman collapses into a small bag of goods that Lucinda collects. Without any warning, Amalya blasts past Lucinda.

Tyr has done it again. This though eh is kiting all four Lizardmen towards them. As she arrives her Tiger shield smacking into a Lizardman and blocking his sword swing and says, “What are you doing they are not yet ready.”

Tyr smiles and says, “I know but this works better.” He has been trying the ‘nice way.’ Their progress is just too slow for him. At this rate, they will finish this after the deadline. They have already spent four hours discussing and practising. Now he going with Airas’ sink or swim style of training. Tyr is not surprised as Nineth Immortal takes command. It comes naturally to her, it is one of the qualities he likes about her.

Nineth Immortal says, “Tyr don’t hold back any more we need to know how much we can still improve.” If she is being honest she means just the sisters. Her role as range attacker is pretty simple she only limiting her rate of fire because she doesn’t want to out damage the sisters who are suffering a reduction in the attack.

Tyr swings his shield to block the blue Lizardman from attacking Lucinda. She fires a simple shot into that same blue lizardman as a bolt flies past her into the head of another His yellow scales are covered in fresh blood. The red lizardman tries to slice down Rena she blocks his swing. Responding with her thrust that immmdaite becomes a simple blast as soon as lands. Rena waits for the red lizardman to swing again his sword coming from above slices into her shoulder a bit. Rena still doesn’t faultter as she responds again this hitting him with a simple blast to his exposed side followed by a simple attack from her lion cannon. The force crushes his ribs a pained wheeze as he swings in retaliation slowed by the damage. Their fight descends into an arena of chaos for every move the Lizardman they are meant counters, spells and attacks.

Unlike what Amalya expected Rena and Lucinda have found their own fighting style. Lucinda focuses a lot on digging and kiting her opponent. Amalya is all about attacking and controlling the flow of battle while Rena is defensive. Nineth immortal and Tyr simply add to the damage of the girls covering the flanks and any unexpected events.

With Nineth Immortal on lot collection, they don’t even have to stop. At these levels, the fights are still slow enough that their mana only needs to be supplemented if they use a major skill like Spirit SHot.
