Chapter 160: The light of my life
“Huh? So this is where you all were. Hiding from the ratfolk like some cowards.”
Allucard chuckled with a mocking smile on his face when he saw the ghouls appear in front of him. They were all sporting injuries on their bodies. Allucard hypothesized that these injuries must have been a result of them being attacked by the ratfolks.
One of the ghouls stepped up and spoke to Allucard.
“Now do you believe us? We weren’t the ones responsible for the attack that took place last night. It was the ratfolks. They suddenly turned rabid out of nowhere.”
With evidence like this, Allucard couldn’t refute their claims since he had witnessed how vile the ratfolk turned for himself. He saw the monstrosity they became, but his instincts and overly cautious personality caused him to second guess everything he saw.
Plus, there was the matter of the scent he picked up. Someone dared him by letting their presence be known to him, and as a nobleman, he was almost obligated to respond in kind. His pride as a vampire wouldn’t allow him to let this go. Right now, the ghouls who stood in front of him were of no consequence. Just ants caught up in a game far bigger than them.
In the end, he decided to ignore the ghouls since they were too far below him. He was more interested in the battle that took place between the moth woman and the lich. The air around them was still heavy from their magical battle.
Without a word, he turned on his heels and left. He felt that if he spoke to them, then he would be sullying himself. He left Grey Waste and went towards where the battle was ended. When he got there, his mood was sullied even further.
“The lich was defeated,” he muttered in disbelief.
Before him on the ground, the lich lay broken. His body mere fragments of bones, and beside him lay his broken staff.
“That staff must’ve been its vessel. Since both his body and the vessel are destroyed, he’s no longer—”
Allucard’s words froze in his throat as in the next instant, the lich that once lay broken on the ground began to heal and reattach its broken bones. Soon, the lich looked just as it did before.
“Ah, so the staff wasn’t your vessel; it was just a gimmick to deceive your enemies. You really are a smart monster,” Allucard chuckled.
“I’m not a monster,” suddenly the lich spoke in a sharp, twisted voice.
“Huh, you can talk,” Allucard’s eyes widened in surprise.
“I can do a lot of things with magic,” the lich replied.
“You couldn’t defeat that woman, apparently.”
“That’s because that woman wasn’t of this world.”
Allucard raised an eyebrow when he heard the lich’s response.
“What do you mean?”
“She’s a demon,” the lich answered flatly. “A greater fiend demon, nonetheless. If I catch her, I can do all sorts of experiments on her.”
As the lich spoke, his skeleton cheekbones began to turn red.
’Is he using his magic to blush?’
“Anyhow, the witches and the demons have some sort of arrangement. It doesn’t make sense for them to attack us,” Allucard said.
The situation didn’t make sense to him, no matter how he tried to wrap his head around it. He couldn’t come up with an answer that sounded believable. In the end, he decided to leave it for now. He had other matters to attend to.
“Search the city for her. She couldn’t have gotten far. If you do find her, bring her to me; I’ll question her personally.”
After Allucard gave his order to the lich, he decided to go back home to the Veylmont estate. The moment he entered, he was greeted by a blonde maid.
“Welcome home, young master,” the maid bowed in servitude.
“I’m feeling parched. Where’s my food bank?” he asked as he ignored her and stepped into the mansion.
The maid began to sweat the moment she heard that question. She hesitated to answer for just a second, and that’s when Allucard’s eyes turned sharp. Just his gaze alone was enough for the maid to feel as if someone had plunged a knife into her chest.
“The young miss is sleeping,” the maid finally answered. “It’s been a while since she has had a proper rest. The pregnancy has been hard on her; it would be nice if she could rest a bit more.”
“She can rest after I’ve had my fill,” Allucard hummed as he climbed up the stairs.
The moment his figure disappeared upstairs, the maid let out a shaky breath.
Allucard continued to his room where his wife was sleeping. Her six-month-pregnant stomach was slowly rising and falling as she took deep breaths in her sleep. This woman had crimson-colored hair and gorgeous features. She was once a nobleman’s daughter, but now her only purpose was to satisfy Allucard’s every need.
“My wife,” he chuckled looking at her warmly.
Allucard slowly approached the bed she was sleeping on. He didn’t even bother waking her up; instead, he sank his fangs into her neck as she slept. His wife, Elena, woke up the moment Allucard sank his fangs into her neck, and immediately she wrapped her arms around him.
“My darling,” she moaned as she laid herself bare for him. This woman was the soul light in Allucard’s grim world. To others, he might seem cold and sometimes cruel to her, but only the two of them knew how much he really loved her.
It was because he loved her so much that he made sure no one knew of it. She was his only weakness, and after losing his brother, whom he also cared for deeply, his love for her grew even stronger.
After he was finished sucking on her, he offered her his neck, to which she smiled and began drinking his blood. The two of them were wrapped up in each other’s arms before Allucard finally decided to put himself through the displeasure of letting her go.
There was something he desperately needed to take care of.
“Come back to me soon, my love,” Elena cooed before sending him off with one final passionate kiss on the lips. When Allucard finally pulled away from her, he felt his determination growing even stronger, and he steeled himself for what he was going to do next.
He left his room and went down to the cellar beneath their mansion, where he had a prisoner tied captive. It was a traitor, actually. The girl who used to be the head servant for his younger brother, Victor.
When he got to the cellar, he saw the traitor tied to a chair. She was severely malnourished, her face pale and her eyes almost lifeless. Allucard had tried several times to compel her, but it never worked, so he decided to do things the old-fashioned way.
He tortured her in every way imaginable, but still she refused to comply. Today, Allucard had enough of her refusal and finally decided what to do with her.
“Wake up, Isabella,” he commanded.
She slowly raised her head and looked up at Allucard, her dark hair covering a portion of her face. The moment Isabella heard his voice, she steeled herself to get tortured. It was a natural reflex to her at this point.
The only thing that kept her going was the thought that her lousy prince charming would come rescue her. This was the only reason why she had managed to hold out so long. And even if he didn’t save her, she felt satisfied to die for the person she truly loved.
’I am a fool.’ She thought to herself but she didn’t care. No matter how bad the torture was, every time a memory of him flashed in her mind she couldn’t help but smile.
Her only regret would be not being able to tell him how much she cared.
Allucard looked down on the girl in front of him with a wide grin on his face.
“Isabella, today I will take your breath away.”
