Chapter 166: Might
Chapter 166: Might
Asia approached us with a gentle smile on her face to take our order. After she took our order, she promptly left.
“So how are we going to go about saving Isabella?” Selthia asked once we all received our order.
“A major part of the plan will require Kaguya,” I replied.
After hearing her name, the stealthy assassin lurking in the shadows finally revealed herself.
The moment she did, they all looked at her with surprise on their faces; they didn’t even realize she was following them. Kaguya gave them a polite bow before standing at my side.
“It makes me happy that my daughter has friends that are willing to risk their lives for her.”
They all said nothing and instead stared at her in utter bewilderment.
“You managed to break her compulsion,” Selthia sputtered out.
“Yes, I did. Kaguya is now the newest member of our pack.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you all.”
Kaguya once again bowed her head.
“So what are we going to need her for again?” Selthia asked.
“Kaguya knows the ins and outs of the Veylmont clan. We can build our plan to rescue Isabella around her knowledge. Plus, she’s the only one who can get close to them without drawing suspicion on herself. They probably think it’s impossible for someone to break her compulsion; we’ll use that to our advantage.”
“I see,” Selthia nodded along, seemingly agreeing to my logic.
“Wow, as expected of my darling. You really are a genius.”
“Lee is a smarty pants,” Sylvie giggled from her place laying down on my lap.
“Yes, you seem quite capable for someone so young,” Kaguya agreed. “I’m most impressed.”
I listened to their compliments while nodding along, but in truth, something else caught my attention.
A small group consisting of eight members entered the inn. The moment they entered, I felt the atmosphere change, but no one else seemed to sense it since this group was doing a good job of suppressing their presence. Their eyes wandered around the inn before finally landing on us, and it was at that moment I finally realized what happened.
’This was a trap!’
Before I even had the chance to warn the others, the vampires who entered the inn attacked. The first to attack erupted a fireball from the palm of his hand. The attack tore through the air, heading straight towards me.
I didn’t react. I didn’t have to. Fire and heat had little effect on me. I realized this a while ago. Unless it was fueled by dark magic, I had a high resistance to heat. The only thing I did was protect Sylvie so she didn’t get burned. The fireball exploded when it impacted on my chest, but the only thing it accomplished was singeing my clothes.
Everyone at the table reacted instantly after the fireball exploded. Selthia sprang to her feet, small droplets of water already dancing in the air as she set her sights on the vampires. While Kumo’s entire lower body transformed into that of a black widow spider. The six predatorial eyes on her forehead glowing menacingly.
Kaguya immediately took a battle stance. She didn’t have her wooden stakes, so instead she extended the nails on her fingers to use as a weapon.
“Are you alright, Sylvie?” I asked, inspecting her to make sure she didn’t have any burn marks.
“Lee~”
After I inspected Sylvie, I returned my attention back to the vampires. There were eight of them in total. All with varying abilities. The eight of them met Selthia, Kumo, and Kaguya head-on, while Sylvie and I were a bit late to join the fray.
The moment Sylvie escaped from her earlier trance state, she sprung into action, and within seconds she already killed two of the vampires. The speed at which she moved was terrifying. It was difficult for the vampires to keep up with her seemingly erratic movements, especially since they weren’t used to it.
She had the vampires running in circles trying to predict her movements, and when they least expected it, she struck at their most vital spots.
Selthia’s fighting style, on the other hand, was a marvel of efficiency. She moved elegantly and gracefully as she controlled water magic. She used the water as a blade, slicing the vampires’ limbs before they could even get close to her.
While Kaguya flickered through the chaos. She didn’t stay in a single place for more than a second before she was gone. A master assassin hunting down those she once fought beside. The vampires were left stumped when they saw their most prized weapon fighting against them.
Kumo’s fighting style was a bit more brutal than the others. She used her giant spider legs like a spear, puncturing it through her opponent’s chest. She also used her web to throw the vampires off balance by aiming for their feet, and the moment they fell, she would mercilessly claim their lives.
All around us, the inn was in a panic. Vampires attacking was the stuff of nightmares for them, and so most didn’t waste a second before rushing towards the exit.
I gazed at the battle before I myself was attacked. It was the same vampire who shot the first fireball. His hands were covered in flames as he threw his first fist at me. I lazily leaned back and watched it sizzle past my face.
The vampire gritted its teeth, its eyes blood red as it threw another punch, this time aimed for my torso. I ducked below his punch and grabbed the vampire by the throat. With a single tug of my hand, I ripped out the vampire’s throat.
A fountain of blood spewed from the vampire’s wounds. The vampire desperately tried to cover its wounds, but the moment its body was left unguarded, I dug my claws into its chest and ripped out its heart. The vampire collapsed to the ground with a wet thud.
Fighting side by side, we mercilessly killed every last vampire that made it into the inn until their bodies lined the floor.
“How? How did they find us?” Kaguya asked when the last of the vampires fell.
“They followed the ghouls,” I answered. “They left that box in Grey Waste so the ghouls would bring it to me, and so they could follow them. I didn’t realize at first since I was so worried about Isabella.”
’That Allucard really is a smart opponent. Nothing like Danzo or any other opponent I’ve faced so far.’
Just then, as we thought the battle was over, the entire inn began to quake. The inn trembled so hard that the columns and ceiling began to collapse.
We desperately tried to keep our balance, and just as we tried to escape the inn, a massive creature, shaped like a Chinese dragon, tore through the building, crumbling it underneath its might.
