Chapter 229: The Greatest Enemy Faced
Cassian spoke with a subtle calmness. I think the reason he seemed calmer than before was because he thought I would try to run away. Now that he saw that I had no intentions of escaping, he was free to take his time.
Cassian slowly continued to walk towards me with no concern for Cerberus growling in front of him. Every footstep was slow and deliberate. I didn’t react and only continued stroking Cerberus’s fur.
“You don’t seem too afraid. Is this really the case or are you just putting on an act? Well, it doesn’t matter, we’ll find out soon enough.” He said.
I continued to watch him walk towards me without moving an inch from my seat.
“Are you ready, Cerberus?”
GRR!
With Cerberus’s approval, I finally got up from where I sat. The full moon covered me in its rays. It felt like electricity was coursing through every inch of my body.
It dense my bones, making it harder than steel or any metal that exists in this world.
My fangs hardened and grew three inches from my mouth. My claws were long, black, and had a tip as pointed as a needle.
The full moon caused an orange aura to surround my body. It is said that a full moon shows a werewolf his truth. That they couldn’t hide their true self.
“You’re from the Lycann pack, are you not? It’s funny, I was the one who killed your founder, the Beast of Gévaudan. He was said to be the strongest werewolf to ever exist, but to me he was nothing but an ant. I don’t get how one of you creatures could kill even one of my sons. Enlighten me?” Cassian said as he plucked his tie from his neck and tossed it to the ground.
He deliberately left himself open as if daring me to attack.
I happily obliged. Cerberus, as if sensing my intentions, rushed at him. Of course, I didn’t think Cerberus stood a chance; I only wanted to see how Cassian fought before I rushed in.
Since Cerberus couldn’t die, this was the best option. Cerberus snapped his vicious fangs at Cassian.
The vampire stared at the beast, uninterested as he sidestepped the attack.
Cerberus launched a series of attacks at Cassian. He slashed his claws and snapped his fangs, but none of his attacks even grazed Cassian.
The vampire’s speed was too immense. It looked like he wasn’t even trying. Cassian kept one of his hands in his pockets and only leaned back to dodge the attacks.
Cerberus disappeared into the shadows and attempted to launch surprise attacks at Cassian, but all of them failed.
He didn’t even look at Cerberus even though the beast was almost three times his size. He kept his eyes locked on me. Not out of wariness that I would attack, but that I would run.
I soon realized that having Cerberus attack him was useless. He wouldn’t give me anything. I needed to force him to fight with everything he had.
I didn’t need to speak; with just a thought, Cerberus retreated even though he didn’t want to.
“You did good, buddy. Don’t worry,” I briefly petted him before he returned back to my shadow.
Cassian didn’t say a word, only kept his sharp eyes narrowed at me. It felt as if he was looking past me and into my soul.
Behind those blood eyes of his was thousands of years worth of experiences and knowledge. I could only wonder what was going through that mind of his.
I readied myself and fine-tuned all my senses to focus solely on him. His heartbeat was higher than normal, but it made sense considering he was standing in front of his son’s killer.
His very scent stank of blood.
I watched him like a predator as I slowly circled around him. He stared at me intently, watching my every movement, but his hand was still in his pocket.
I took my time watching him, trying to take in as much detail about him as possible, then when the time was right, I struck.
I attacked from below and clawed at his midsection. It was an attack he couldn’t evade just by leaning back.
He took his first step back, and when he did, my shin met the back of his knee.
It was a leg sweep aimed to knock him off his feet, but when my foot impacted against his shin, I heard a loud pop!
I soon realized that the loud pop was the sound of my bone breaking. That strike had done absolutely nothing to Cassian.
He didn’t even react. At that moment, I felt like an ant trying to push against a mountain, and then the pain gripped me, stronger than anything I had ever felt before.
I had broken bones before. Many times in fact, but this felt different.
My limbs were twisted, and bones stuck out through the flesh. To top it off, it was taking longer than normal to heal.
“Not a bad kick, and it even looks as if you are healing. But you’re still too weak. You’re not worthy of my son’s death.”
Cassian watched me unamused. Being this close to him, I slashed at his face. I expected him to dodge. My only reason for attacking was to create distance between us, but my plan failed.
Not only did he not move an inch, but he took the full force of my swing without batting an eye.
My claws traced against his skin as I used every strength I could summon to get through.
Snap!
My hopes were dashed in an instant. Not only couldn’t I get through his thick skin, but my claws snapped and broke.
My eyes widened in disbelief. How could I believe it? Something like this had never happened before. I didn’t even think it possible.
All that, and I couldn’t even scratch his face. I began to realize the terror of the situation.
This vampire was a monster that couldn’t even compare to anyone I had faced before. He was completely out of my league.
But strangely, even though I realized this, I couldn’t help but crack a smile.
’He is exactly the kind of opponent I need to defeat in order to grow stronger!’
…
Meanwhile, on another side of the battlefield, a raging tornado was building up. Inside this tornado was none other than the witch of calamity.
Sylvie, Selthia, and Isabella watched helplessly as the witch’s power tore through the community that cost a small fortune to be built.
Her powerful wind knocked down buildings like dominoes and tore apart roads as easy as lifting up a carpet.
They watched helplessly as the witch turned her cold gaze to them with the intention to kill.
Isabella flew into the air, trying to force her way through the raging winds, but she was no match for them.
Even Selthia, whose powers were enhanced by the full moon, couldn’t do much to stop it. All they could do was try to escape the witch who was intent on killing them.
As they tried to run, the witch let out a powerful wind that smashed them through one of the already destroyed buildings.
The girls grunted in pain and tried to get to their feet, but came under more assault.
The witch of calamity then landed on the ground and began walking towards them. The tornado still raging around her.
At that moment, they understood why she was called the witch of calamity.
Kumo’s arachnids ran towards the witch with eyes thirsty for blood, but none of them stood a chance. Some were sliced into pieces by the witch’s wind attacks, while some were squashed like bugs.
Selthia gritted her teeth and growled in frustration.
“Dammit! I’ll hold her off; the two of you should escape,” she said and tried to rush towards the witch, but Isabella grabbed her hand.
“What are you going to do? If the three of us can’t take her on together, then you don’t stand a chance by yourself,” Isabella said. “We should retreat for now.”
“Yes, you’re right,” Kumo agreed. “It would be suicidal to rush at her.”
“What makes you think that we can escape with her chasing after us? Darling is counting on me. If I thought it was suicidal, I wouldn’t have suggested holding her off,” Selthia said.
The other girls were clearly not on board with this plan, but they could also see how determined she looked. They also knew she wasn’t the type to act recklessly.
If she said she could hold the witch of calamity off, it meant she would find a way to do so.
Suddenly, Sylvie grabbed Selthia by the hand.
“Be safe, Selth. Don’t do anything reckless. If Selth dies, then Sylvie will have Lee all to herself.”
A small vein popped up in Selthia’s head when she heard those words, but she understood Sylvie’s intention.
“Don’t even think about it. I’ll never let you have darling all to yourself,” she said, smiling before turning her back to the girls. They couldn’t see her expression, but there was a warm smile on her face. “You guys should go; the witch is getting closer.”
The girls felt hesitant, but in the end, they decided to trust Selthia and made their escape.
Selthia stood in front of the witch who was walking closer to her. Selthia’s hair was fluttering with the strong winds, and she could barely keep her balance.
Her skin had a blue hue, and you could see small scales beginning to form. These scales continued to grow until it eventually covered her entire body.
Her body felt stronger, many times stronger. This was the first time she was using this transformation. It was a result of her newly acquired bloodline. The sea goddess bloodline.
She stretched out her hand, and immediately blue particles began to form. These strange particles resembled bubbles.
In the next second, a golden trident appeared in her hand. The trident had a mystic glow to it and about 5 feet in length. Feeling a bit proud about her weapon she then aimed the trident towards the witch who came to a stop just a few feet in front of her.
