Chapter 67: Spilled Blood

Sylvie pulled me into the river with her, and in the next instant, she dove deep under the water. After a while, she finally emerged with a fish between her jaws. She then proceeded to bite off the head of the fish and began eating it.

“After all that, you’re was still hungry?” I asked.

“Sylvie heals faster the more she eats.”

It made sense; most of her injuries from last night had been healed. Her body must be adapted to absorb the nutrients from whatever she eats at a faster rate.

“The more Sylvie eats, the stronger she gets,” Sylvie said.

Well, I guess that was why she was always on the hunt for prey. After she was done consuming the fish, she dove back down underwater. I followed behind her, seeing if I could help her catch anything.

We spent the rest of our time swimming and catching fish together. By the time we were done, we had caught over a hundred fishes, and I promptly created another fire to cook them. I used my heat manipulation skill to assist me, but just as we were finishing up eating, I sensed something.

There was a group fast approaching. I readied myself immediately, preparing for battle, but Sylvie was the one who stopped me. Her face had a serious expression.

“Let me do it, Lee.”

She seemed confident, so I decided not to do anything and instead waited as the group approached. It was a small group of five werewolves. They looked as if they belonged to the Nyx pack.

Their sharp eyes met mine for just a second, but they soon refocused their attention back to Sylvie.

“Moon Princess, your father wishes to see you. It’s urgent,” the one leading the group said.

“Papa?”

“He said we are to escort you back home safely.”

Hearing that, Sylvie looked at me and took hold of my hand. She had a look of conviction I had never seen from her before. Seeing her holding my hand, the group of werewolves looked at each other with puzzled expressions on their faces.

“Moon Princess, who is he?”

“This is Sylvie’s mate.”

Again, the werewolves looked a bit puzzled, and I could sense that there was something they weren’t telling us.

“Moon Princess, it’s best you speak with your father before making any brash decisions,” said the leader. The group of werewolves gestured for us to follow them, and that’s what we did.

Sylvie and I walked side by side, with her clinging to my arm.

“Don’t worry, Lee. Papa will understand that Lee is Sylvie’s mate,” Sylvie said. Maybe she could sense that I was worried through our connection. I smiled at her and patted her head, which caused her to let out a soft purr as her tail did somersaults behind her. Her face turned bright red, and she hugged me even tighter, rubbing her face up and down my arm.

I couldn’t help but smile at how she acted whenever I petted her.

Indeed, I was worried. I didn’t know how her father would react to this arrangement. If it came down to it, I might need to fight him. I wondered if I was strong enough to. As we walked, I asked Sylvie a question that had been on my mind lately.

“Sylvie, the poison that is coated on your claws, does it have a cure?” I asked.

“Hmm… a cure? Sylvie can cure it.” she smiled.

“You can?”

“Yep. Whenever Sylvie accidentally poisons werewolves, Papa asks Sylvie to cure it, and Sylvie does.”

Well, that’s good, at least. I can have Sylvie cure Nyra when I get back. I don’t know how she will take Sylvie being my fated mate, though. Probably not well.

Just then, I also decided to leave one of my shadow hounds in the forest, just in case.

After a short while, we finally arrived at the entrance to the Nyx pack settlement. The sun was just setting in the sky as night was about to fall. It created a beautiful orange hue in the horizon. The view from the mountain top at this hour was astounding.

The moment we got to the entrance, I smelled a familiar scent. Roran?

Could he have returned here?

“Come on, Lee,” Sylvie said as she began dragging me along through the cave system until we arrived back at the vast section of the cave where the alpha’s throne lies.

When we got there, my eyes widened in surprise.

“What is he doing here?”

Inside, I saw Roran and Danzo sitting together. They seemed to be deep in conversation. Danzo was the first to see us and react.

“Ah, my daughter…”

He paused when he saw Sylvie clinging to my arm, and his eyes sharpened.

“Who is this?”

“Liam?” Roran said, causing Danzo to look back at him. “He’s my nephew. My sister’s son.”

“What’s going on?” I asked.

Roran looked at me with a hint of confusion etched on his face, while Danzo glared at me as if he wanted to slit my throat just for being near to his daughter. Roran cleared his throat before speaking.

“The Lycann pack and the Nyx pack have come to an arrangement to marry the eldest son, Kaelen, and the eldest daughter, Sylvie, of both packs.”

I stared at him in shock, but Sylvie was the first to react. Her eyes glowed a deep shade of orange. It looked just like mine. They visibly recoiled at this, wondering why her eyes had taken on such a strange color.

“I won’t marry anyone else except for Lee!” Sylvie said adamantly as the temperature in the room began to drop.

“What!” Her father looked at her in disbelief. Never had his daughter ever refused him before.

“Lee is Sylvie’s mate! Sylvie wants to make babies with him! Hundreds of babies!”

Sylvie hugged my arm tightly as she shouted at her father.

Danzo glared at her, and it was as if the entire room was enveloped in darkness.

“You will marry whoever I tell you to. Fated mate or not!”

The two continued to glare at each other, and through the chaos, I felt Roran’s eyes on me.

“Liam, you are a part of my pack. As your alpha, I order you not to get involved with the moon princess anymore,” his eyes glowed a bright shade of yellow as he spoke. He was obviously trying to compel me, but I wasn’t under the rule of anyone.

I stared at him without saying a word, but just as I was about to say something, Danzo spoke up.

“This marriage is final. If need be, I will kill this boy to see it happen.”

Roran said nothing at first; he only stared at me as if weighing his options. After a while, he finally spoke.

“I can’t allow you to do that. It would sadden my sister very much. I’ll handle him. I’ll make sure he never goes near your daughter ever again.”

Danzo looked at Roran and only grunted. He didn’t seem to care, so long as I was apart from Sylvie. Looking at the situation clearly, I only saw one way out.

Earlier today day, while Sylvie and I were wrestling, I had taken something from her. Something she didn’t even notice. I had taken one of her claws, the same poisonous claws she had used to kill many.

Roran approached me, and soon his 7-foot-tall figure towered over me. His eyes glowed yellow as he stared into my soul. His killing intent was like an invisible pressure trying to force me to bow before him.

“You will obey,” Roran said as his voice took on a demonic tone.

In that instant, I lowered my head and began to bow. Seeing this, he lowered his guard just for a second, leaving himself completely at my mercy. I reacted in that very instant and used the claw I had taken from Sylvie; I swung at him.

His reflexes were incredible as he quickly reacted, but I didn’t need a deep wound, just a small cut would do. He jerked his head back, but he was too late as the poisonous claw scratched his neck.

His eyes sharpened, and I knew he smelled the poison.

I felt a hint of satisfaction knowing I had him, but just then, I felt a sharp pain come over me, and I glanced down to see Roran’s claws rip through my gut. Instantly, the metalic taste of my own blood filled my mouth.

At that moment, my vision blurred and the only sound I could hear was the sound of my own blood spilling onto the ground.
