Chapter 260: Real Objective
The entire building shook and trembled from the dragon’s wrath. From what I remember, it wasn’t a real dragon. It was created from the tattoo on the witch’s body. She used her magic to bring it to life.
“Lee?”
Suddenly, Sylvie called out to me as I held her in my arms. Looking at her, she didn’t seem to be mind-controlled, but still, I couldn’t be sure. I had a suspicion about Damian’s mind control. My hunch was that he could only control the members of my pack to some degree. Complex orders didn’t work on them.
If it did, then he could’ve used it to his advantage long ago. He could’ve had them act as spies and do other complex tasks. Sylvie was even able to resist his command, even if for a short while.
Still, there was no way to be certain.
I have to kill him.
That was the only way I could be certain. Besides that, he had to die for what he nearly did.
“Lee,” Sylvie called out to me once again when she saw that I was zoning out. “Sylvie has something to tell you.”
I glanced down at her and smiled.
“I’m glad you’re okay, but we should wait until later.”
“But…”
Sylvie was about to speak, but then the dragon turned back around towards us while the witch of greed continued to walk towards us with bloodshot eyes.
“Lee, put Sylvie down!”
Sylvie shouted. She clearly wanted to fight, but with what happened a few seconds ago, I didn’t want to let her go again.
“Lee!”
That indecisive moment caused a split delay in my reaction.
The dragon was now inches away from us.
I bent my knee, preparing to dive out of the way, but before I could, something crashed into the beast, knocking it away. The massive creature crashed into the wall on its right.
What surprised me the most was the person who knocked the creature away.
“Leech!” Sylvie called out in surprise.
The person who intervened at the last minute was Isabella, and not far behind her was her mother, Kaguya.
“The two of you should go. We’ll hold them off,” Isabella hastily said.
“You should come with us. If Damian decides to go after you, then your lives will be in danger.” I replied.
Isabella shook her head adamantly and took a hold of my hand as she took a step forward. At the same time, Kaguya pulled her stakes from her boots and turned her attention to the witch of greed to hold her off.
“You’re the one in danger since Damian is after you. If you leave right now, he would most likely chase after you instead of paying us any mind. Don’t let him get to you,” Isabella assured me with a smile and then a hug. Knowing her personality, her behavior seemed strange, but I figured this was her way of helping me out of a bad situation.
“Come back safely, okay?” she whispered softly, with a face full of embarrassment. “I have something to tell you…”
Isabella was right. I had allowed Damian to get inside my head once again. He wasn’t after Isabella or anyone else. His main objective was killing me. If I brought them with me, then I would just be bringing them into danger.
Taking a deep breath, I set Sylvie down on her feet.
“Lee, you should…”
Sylvie looked like she wanted to say something, but I stopped her once again by placing my hand on her head.
“Take care of yourself while I’m gone. We can talk about whatever you want to tell me when I get back.” Sylvie looked a bit downcast by my words but still she nodded her head and put on a smile.
“Ok,” She nodded her head.
“Your top priority is taking care of yourself. I don’t care if you defeat that witch; just make sure you’re safe,” I said before turning and calling out to Kaguya. “Kaguya, protect them both with your life.”
Kaguya, who was single-handedly keeping both the witch of greed and the giant serpentine dragon at bay, slightly turned her head towards me and nodded.
“Yes, alpha!”
“I’ll also protect them with my life, darling.”
Suddenly, another person appeared, eager to help. It was Kumo; she was dressed in her nightgown and looked as if she had just crawled out of bed. She yawned into her hand as she walked towards me.
“I don’t know what is happening, but I’ll gladly help and give my life if you ask me to, my darling,” she said, sounding a bit too enthusiastic.
“Giving your life won’t be necessary, but I do need your help too.” I replied, smiling since I was happy to see that she was still safe.
“Anything for you, darling!”
“I need you to gather up as many as you can, preferably Yuki and the other ghouls, and direct them at Damian.”
Right now, I had the dullahan, Sköll, and Hati holding him off. He’ll make short work of them in no time, so I needed the others to buy me some more time.
After issuing my orders, I finally left the building. The witch of greed tried to stop me, but she was stopped by the sheer force of Kaguya, Sylvie, and Isabella. While the three of them kept her at bay and Kumo went to gather the others, I escaped.
Isabella had opened my eyes to something I hadn’t realized before. Damian’s true targets. He wasn’t only after me.
Damian was basically undetectable, so it wasn’t surprising that she was able to sneak back in here. The witch of greed must’ve used some sort of magic to hide her presence. Who is to say that there aren’t others here?
It suddenly dawned on me that Selthia was in just as much danger as me. Damian said it himself: the sea witch wants her daughter back. It wouldn’t be surprising if someone came here with the intention of kidnapping her.
I had caught her scent and could pick up on where she was. It took only two minutes for me to get to her location, and when I was close enough, I realized I was right. I smelled blood, and I could hear the sound of battle. It sounded like she was struggling.
Making my way towards her, I leaped from building to building, cutting my way through the settlement. When I finally got to her, I was on the top of a building watching what was taking place down below.
I saw Selthia doing battle with creatures that resembled men made of stone.
“Golems.”
There were roughly 10 of them, and every time one would rush towards her, she would blast them away with her water magic but they would always get back up soon after.
Not far away, there was a tall man wearing a robe. The man himself didn’t interest me. It was who he was holding. In his arms was a young girl with pink hair sleeping soundly.
I was surprised when I finally recognized the sleeping girl.
“That’s the witch of sloth.”
