Chapter 225: What Happened?

Luiz quickly realized that he had been led into a trap. The mob was infected. Somehow that werewolf had managed to scratch everyone in the mob, and when the vampires drank their blood, they too became infected.

The only reason he was left unaffected was because he didn’t take part in the slaughter.

Luiz’s face paled when he saw the noble vampires he commanded turned into ghouls. Since they were noble vampires, they would be much stronger than the other creatures that were turned into ghouls.

Feeling panicked, he tossed the kitsune aside, no longer caring about her. As she hit the ground, the kitsune immediately changed from her human form into a three-tailed fox to make her escape.

Immediately, Luiz turned to run, but in an instant, a noble vampire turned ghoul appeared in front of him, and soon more began surrounding him.

A single scratch was all it would take to turn him into one of them. He immediately activated his abilities and began freezing the noble vampires where they stood.

The frost spread across the ground and froze their ankles to the asphalt. The moment he froze them, he prepared to rush off, but just as he began to move, he felt a sharp pain in his lower back.

He turned around to see the kitsune, her claws digging into his flesh. But what caught his attention was her face. She was smiling…

’Why is she smiling?

This wound isn’t nearly enough to kill me.’

“You bitch!” He snarled.

“This is revenge for all you’ve done!” The kitsune shouted as she sank her claws even deeper into his flesh.

Luiz growled loudly and swung his fist at her. The impact sent her flying and crashing into a building, almost breaking through the walls.

“Dammit!”

He wanted to murder her right then and there, but seeing what happened to the rest of the noble vampires, his instincts were screaming at him to retreat.

He kicked off the ground with immense force, sending him soaring through the air towards a building to his right. He dug his fingers into the wall and, using all his strength he climbed then pushed himself off, propelling him towards the adjacent building.

He landed on the roof far away from the chaos going on below. He took a breath of relief the moment he realized he was safe..

He then looked down at the ghouls down below him. All 500 of the people they killed, plus the noble vampires, were turned into ghouls.

With how easily this infection could be spread, it could easily lead to an outbreak.

“Damn that wolf,” he hissed under his breath. “I’ll have to tell the others.”

Though he would most likely be blamed, he had to tell the leader of the Veylmont clan what was happening.

He made up his mind, ready to act, but just as he did, he felt a sharp pain in his abdomen. It was so great that it caused him to fall to his knees, clutching his stomach.

COUGH COUGH

He coughed up a mouthful of blood into the palm of his hands. When he saw the blood, his irises shrunk to the size of a needle.

“I’m infected? But how?!”

Just as that question crossed his mind, he remembered the last attack of the kitsune.

He suddenly remembered the smile on her face as she sank her claws into his back. She didn’t even hit his vitals, but still, she had a smile on her face.

Could it be?

Just then, a haunting realization dawned on him.

’She must’ve coated her claws in the blood of a ghoul before attacking me.’

Just as he thought that, he felt his vision doubled. His body felt as if it was freezing over. The tainted blood inside of him spread across his organs and made its way to his heart.

Luiz screamed and clawed at the ground throughout the whole process.

The pain was mind numbing. Blood flowed from his mouth and ears. His eyes bulged out as if they were being squeezed out its socket.

“Someone help!” He begged but there was no one there to help him.

But right when he was about to meet his end, he saw a shadow looming over him.

He used the last bit of his strength to lift his head to see who it was. He felt every remaining strength leave his body when he saw what it was.

The last thing he saw was a black raven with orange eyes staring back at him.

The bird stood mere inches away from his face with eyes that seemed more intelligent than that of a regular bird.

KHAW!!

“That was closer than I thought. Too close if you ask me,” I mumbled to myself as I sat on my bed.

I saw everything that unfolded through the eyes of the raven I sent out.

Everything went as planned, and in one fell swoop, I had managed to kill every single noble vampire in this city.

Well, almost. There was still the leader of the Veylmont clan and the Dracule clan.

But still, what I had managed to achieve tonight was a huge step forward.

I wanted to laugh or crack a smile, but I couldn’t. I knew this was just the beginning.

All of this was thanks to me being able to master the ability to turn people into ghouls. I learned how to delay their transformation right after I infected them.

After this, all I needed to do was infect the people who sided with the kitsune. That is why Kumo and I attended every single event she held to discuss her plans.

I simply walked through the crowd and scratched everyone present. I delayed the transformation to whenever suited me best. I then used my raven to keep an eye on the situation.

Of course, I didn’t tell the kitsune about my plans, and she was the only person I didn’t scratch.

The only thing I told her was when to march on the vampires and witches. I timed it so her mob would attack on the night of the full moon, which was tonight.

Things turned out exactly how I foresaw them. I knew that Aphrodite would betray me and that the vampires would want to get rid of me and the kitsune at the same time.

I knew they would most likely attack at the same time the kitsune planned to attack them, which was why I organized it so that everything would happen on the full moon when my strength was doubled.

Now, Cassian Veylmont and his vampires had me completely surrounded. Though they tried to suppress it, I could still sense their presence.

They were right outside the walls of Grey Waste.

KNOCK KNOCK

Just then, a soft knock rang from the door, and Khalissi stepped in. She had the same majestic glow she always had. She carried a strong lavender scent with her into the room.

Her white hair fell over one side of her shoulder and just as usual she wore a smile on her beautiful face.

“Did you inform the girls that it’s time?” I asked.

“Yes, they were all in the bathhouse. I told them to prepare for what we planned.”

“Good,” I said as I stood up and began stretching my limbs.

“Are you nervous?”

I glanced up at Khalissi.

“A bit, but I’ll be fine. This isn’t my first time going to war. We should go.”

Khalissi nodded and we both left the room, mentally preparing ourselves for the bloodbath that was about to take place.
