- Chapter 300 300: Hire a Hitman
The dark clouds above the city threatened to rain. Therissa’s mouth fell open slightly.
“You want me to teach you magic?”
In response, I created a small flame on the palm of my hand.
“For now, this is all I’m currently capable of doing,” I said.
She looked down at the flame I produced before reaching out and touching it.
HISS!
With just a single touch, the flames on my hand froze.
“I would like to teach you, but I don’t think the military will allow us,” she responded before bowing her head. “I’m sorry.”
I slowly reached out and raised her head by her chin.
“If that’s the case, then we’ll just have to leave the military.”
Her eyes widened in surprise. It was as if she had never even thought of that solution.
“But the military, they’ll hunt us down. And they’ll kill us if they find us.”
“Between the two of us, I’m sure we’ll be fine,” I said. “The only issue is that we’ll need to find somewhere to go.”
The moment I said that, I could see a small flicker in her eyes. I couldn’t tell if she was excited or repulsed.
“Um… maybe we can go back home,” she said, lowering her head.
“Home? Do you mean we’ll go back to your world?” I asked.
“Oh, no, of course not. My world is still stricken with war. We can’t possibly go back there; that’s the reason my brother and I came here in the first place.”
“Your brother?” I asked.
She nodded meekly, and a small smile appeared on her face.
“My twin brother was the one who came up with the brilliant idea for me to win over the military. He said that if I worked hard for the military, then they’d eventually turn to our side and be more accepting of our people. And as their princess, it was my job to ensure this,” she said with a bright smile.
Hearing that, I didn’t think her brother’s idea was brilliant. Cunning, yes, but I wouldn’t say it was brilliant. It sounded more like he wanted to get rid of her. Looking at the girl in front of me, she seemed a bit naive.
“Your brother sounds like a real gem; I should meet him,” I replied.
She nodded enthusiastically.
“I would love to introduce you to him, since you’re my savior and all.”
Seriously, she was too naive; she would lead me to her people just because I saved her life.
How has she survived this long?
“Though, where we live is really far away. It will take a while to get there, and I don’t exactly know the direction. I only have a vague idea of where it is.”
“So basically, we’re going to need a map if we’re going to continue forward.”
She nodded.
“So we need to steal one,” I suggested. The moment I said that, her mouth opened in an ‘O’ shape as if the idea itself was inconceivable. “I’m sure the military likely has one; the best option would be to steal from them.”
“Wait, we can’t.”
Before she could refuse, I grabbed her by the waist and the two of us were off. In an instant, we were outside the city. I had my void hounds exit the city, and then I switched places with them. But there was a limited distance they could travel through the void.
That was why it always took a while whenever I sent them to Ryumon.
Once again, Therissa looked speechless when she saw that we were suddenly transported outside the city.
The military settlement was still a ways away, so we had to travel back. When the military traveled, they traveled through what was left of the roads. Most of the roads were blocked by vehicles, so traveling through them could feel like a maze at times.
This created a good cover against monsters, rather than the forest. Therissa had a look of wonder as she looked at the vehicles.
“What are those strange things?” she asked. “I tried asking the soldiers, but no one would answer me.”
“Those are vehicles. We used them as transportation to get from one place to another,” I explained.
Therissa’s face brightened.
“Oh, so like a stagecoach or a wagon?”
“Exactly. We no longer have the resources to run them, but hopefully we can in the future. I plan to mass-produce them along with other technology. I plan for my city, Ryumon, to be the most developed city in the apocalyptic age. I want to build a city that can hold its own against the wave of demons that is yet to come.”
Therissa nodded as we walked through the maze of vehicles.
“The people of this city aren’t as united as they should be. It was the same in my world. All the races basically only cared about protecting themselves, but if they worked together, then maybe we would’ve stood a chance against Abaddon.”
“Abaddon? He’s also the one who is called War, correct?”
Therissa nodded.
“He was the first of the Four Horsemen to come to our world.” As she spoke, I saw her hands tremble, but she quickly hid them behind her back and forced a laugh. “Abaddon is also a fallen angel, like Lucifer, so we didn’t really stand a chance. Hahaha.”
She then lowered her head.
“This is actually not the first world we’ve retreated to, and it has all ended the same. My world is the only one still left fighting. Elves have a higher capacity for magic than most other races, plus we have a secret weapon.”
She quickly covered her mouth and shook her head.
“I’m sorry, I’m not supposed to talk about that.”
As we walked, I thought about everything Therissa said, about Abaddon and also about elves. Soon, as night fell, we managed to arrive at the military settlement.
…
Under the starry skies, a young man sat against a tree, a black sword leaning against his shoulder as he gazed up at the night sky. This young man was fairly handsome, with white hair and a muscular build.
He went by several names, but his most renowned name was Demon Slayer. This was because of his talent for slaying demons. Some even hailed him as a genius, as he was the fastest awakener in the current day, having already undergone three evolutions.
Further off in the distance from where he sat, a noisy celebration could be heard, but this didn’t interest him. His mind was filled with thoughts of the future.
“You look well.”
Suddenly, a feminine voice drew him from his thoughts. He pried his eyes from the night sky and instead looked at the person who suddenly appeared before him. It was a beautiful white-haired woman. But this wasn’t just any woman.
This woman had eyes the same color as flames, twisted horns growing from her head, and a set of black angel wings hugging her hips. Despite her odd appearance, this woman was by far the most beautiful woman he had laid eyes upon.
The Demon Slayer looked down, and his cold blue eyes met hers. His lips slowly parted, and he let out a low growl.
“Lilith.”
The woman, Lilith, smiled with amusement and walked toward the young man.
“It’s been a while, Demon Slayer.”
“What do you want? Your presence never means anything good,” the young man said in annoyance.
“I have another demon I want you to kill,” Lilith said.
The young man let out a low grunt but did not utter a word.
Lilith continued, “Remember you owe me for your third evolution. You would never have reached this height without me.”
“Why don’t you kill this demon yourself then? Unless you’re aiming to send me out on a suicide mission?”
Though Lilith had helped him in the past, she was still a demon. Seeing what they were capable of, the young man had little trust for the likes of demons or any other creatures that weren’t human.
“Don’t worry, you’re more than capable,” Lilith replied as she stopped in front of the young man. She then raised her palm, and soon a crystal orb began to form. The orb showed an image of two women walking.
One of the women had white hair, just like Lilith herself, except she didn’t have horns; she had two antennae and wings on her back. The other woman had black hair and looked human.
Lilith smiled as she played the image of the two women walking side by side.
“Your target is the woman with white hair. She is a greater fiend demon. They also called her the Moth Queen. I want you to kill her; more points if you can make her suffer before she dies.”
The young man frowned.
“Who is this demon to you anyway?”
Lilith smiled.
“We’ve been best friends since we were little girls.”
Seeing the sensual look on Lilith’s face as she talked about murdering her childhood best friend, the young man couldn’t help but frown. But still, he knew that this was par for the course with her. Her actions and motives never made sense to him, so he instead stopped trying to understand her.
In the end, he sighed and relented.
“Fine, I’ll kill this Moth Queen if that is your wish, but after this, I don’t owe you anything.”
Lilith smiled, satisfied, before turning on her heels to leave. She gave one final look before she left and said:
“See to it that it’s done.”
[A/N: We’re finally at 300 hundred chapters! This is by far the longest novel I’ve ever written. I’ve learned a lot from writing this novel since the first chapter was publish, 4 months ago!
