Chapter 288: Confidence

The two of us stood face to face, neither of us saying a word. This was it. After days of fighting, our battle would finally come to an end.

Damian said nothing, and neither did I. A silent understanding passed between the both of us. Somehow, it felt fitting for our battle to end with neither of us saying a word.

Having fought for so long, we had learned more about each other than either of us had wanted. I knew a lot about the monster standing in front of me, and because of that, I respected him. He was a man of strength.

The perfect opponent to test out my new strength.

The first thing I wanted to test was defense. Usually, it would just take one blow from Damian to shatter my ribs and leave me coughing up blood.

Wondering how my body would react, I attacked first. My fist tore a path towards Damian’s head.

I swung my fist in a wide arc. For someone with fighting experience, it would be easy to block or counter.

Before my fist even made an impact with him, Damian reacted.

Strange…

Has he gotten slower?

No. I knew that wasn’t right. In fact, with his new transformation, Damian has gotten faster, but to me, it felt as if he had gotten slower.

I felt it the moment Damian’s fist connected. I felt a sharp pain, and my back slightly arched from the impact, but that was it.

That was it?

I could hardly believe that this was the same punch that use to leave me coughing out blood on the ground.

Damian, too, seemed confused by my lack of reaction, but before he could even process it, my fist met his stomach.

I could feel my fist impact onto his hard ribs. His ribs felt solid, something as hard as steel, until I felt it give way.

My fist shattered his bone and sank deeper into his chest.

Damian’s face twisted in agony as he was sent flying out of the storm of flames covering us.

Flames continued to rage around me, and soon, I could see rivers of lava beginning to form.

This must’ve been caused by the supernova. Now that I had evolved, the impact from the explosion would be more devastating.

I could feel mana pouring out of my body in waves. That was what was fueling the flames around me. At the same time, I could feel mana compressing at the base of my stomach.

Putting that aside for now, I appeared beside Damian, who was lying on the ground, moving so fast it looked as if I had teleported.

Damian was in the same state I was before. He was on his knees, coughing up large amounts of blood.

His face was even paler than before, his eyes bulging as if they were going to pop out of their sockets at any second.

He tried desperately to climb to his feet, but his legs wobbled, and he was sent crashing down to the ground.

I knew that feeling. It felt as if every bone in his body was vibrating, and he couldn’t get a grip on himself.

The ground below him was seething hot. Before, it wasn’t affecting him, but now, I could see burn marks on his skin.

As he fought and tried to struggle to his feet, I grabbed him by the back of the head and dragged him towards the river of lava.

I could feel his fists pounding against my abdomen as I dragged him, but it was as if I was being hit by a toddler.

A loud, guttural growl escaped him, and we neared the river.

His death was close. Even he could sense it.

“You can’t kill me! You’ve lost your only weapon!” he growled.

Did I lose it? I merely had it hidden.

I hid it in the safest place possible. I slowly raised my hand and rested it on my chest, right where my heart was.

Beneath the skin and pressing against my ribs was the angel bone. This was the safest place for it.

For him to ever find it, he would have to kill me, and I knew that would never happen.

I dug into my thick flesh and ripped out the angel bone. My blood was boiling as I could see steam rising from it.

Damian stared at the angel bone in my hand with wide eyes. He was certain that I didn’t have a way to kill him, but with this, his hope was dashed.

But in the next second, I threw the angel bone into the river of lava.

I was certain that I no longer needed it. If it was strong mana that was needed to kill him, then I was positive I could kill him.

Damian looked at the river of lava where I threw the bone. His brow furrowed; he couldn’t understand the logic of my actions.

Maybe he thought I was overconfident.

Maybe I was.

Without saying a word, I pressed Damian’s head against the ground. He tried to resist and fight, but he was too weak.

I could feel the mana compressing inside my body. I couldn’t stop it, so all there was left to do was control the blast.

I took a breath and focused on the energy both inside and outside of me.

My mind felt clear, and strangely, I began thinking about the future.

I wanted to create a thriving city in the apocalypse and build a pack that could withstand the forces that were to come.

But before that, I needed power.

Power that could rival Conquest by the time he got here.

For that, it meant I had to leave my family once again.

“Sylvie… Isabella. I’m sorry.”

The outside world has changed a lot since I’ve been here. I’ve heard talks of new powerhouses and dungeons, along with other strange structures.

There is even a rumor that different races apart from demons are showing up.

The world itself had changed, and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to explore this world of mine.

Strangely, at the last minute, I could hear a sound reminiscent of fireworks as the power inside my body ruptured, bringing an end to the supernatural city known as Purgatory.
