Chapter 240: Training (1)
The next morning, I stood in a clearing, far enough from the rest of my pack so I wouldn’t be disturbed.
It was a clear patch of land, without any buildings or people nearby.
I stood waiting patiently for the others to arrive. After a few minutes, the first to arrive was Selthia.
She was wearing an ocean-blue sundress that stopped just above knees. Her hair was tied back in a ponytail, and her blue handbag hung lazily from her shoulder. The bag had various sea ornaments as designs.
It looked as if she was going shopping in the city again. I haven’t spoken to her since that night Cassian attacked.
She is another who has been avoiding me. Even now, she was avoiding eye contact.
“Darling, did you call me here?”
In a way, I was happy that she was the first to arrive.
“Yes, I wanted to see how much stronger you’ve gotten.”
For some reason, Selthia’s expression froze.
“Wait, why? I can’t, I have some stuff that I need to take care of. I can’t possibly make time for training. I have to go.”
Seeing her reaction, I knew exactly what this was about.
“Whatever it is you have planned, postpone it. This is important. I need to make sure you are strong enough in case we come under another attack.”
“Yes, darling, but I…” she tried to speak but then bit her lip.
“Okay, fine, I’ll train with you,” she said, and immediately her clothes began to change. They took the form of knight armor, except it was made of a material that resembled water.
She also had a lance in her hand.
“Huh? What happened to your trident?” I asked.
“It’s too dangerous to train with.”
“If you’re worried about hurting me, then you shouldn’t. I won’t be holding back in this fight either. You could get hurt.”
She turned her head away and muttered something under her breath.
“I wouldn’t care. As long as I don’t hurt you.”
Looking at her, I knew she wasn’t just being stubborn. She meant it.
This made things trickier. I would have to try something else.
“How about this? If you manage to land a single attack on me, then I’ll allow you to leave, and I’ll also grant you any one wish.”
She stared at me blankly.
“You already do. You grant everything we ask for. You’re doting, and you don’t even realize it.”
I am?
This wasn’t working. I could always compel her to fight, but I doubt if I did that, she would learn anything.
I’ll try a different approach.
“This city is dangerous, Selthia. Remember your promise? You said you wanted to be by my side to help me, but how can I allow you to stay by my side if you’re not strong enough?”
Her eyes widened, and she looked a bit panicked.
“Wait, what are you saying?”
“If you can’t prove to me that you’re strong enough to stay here, then I’ll have to send you back to Ryomen.”
“No, wait, you can’t! I won’t!”
“Are you saying you won’t obey me as your alpha? This is akin to going against our pack. If you don’t want to be a part of my pack anymore, then…”
“No, that’s not what I’m saying! You know it! Stop… just stop!”
Suddenly, the lance in her hand started to disappear and was replaced with a golden trident.
“All I have to do is land one attack, correct?” She asked.
I nodded.
“Yes.”
Immediately as I spoke, Selthia burst forward, charging at me with the trident in her hand.
I couldn’t help but think that the trident looked a bit heavy for her.
And why was she charging at me? I was certain that she had long-range attacks.
Does she intend to hit me with the trident and call it a day?
She wasn’t taking this seriously. She was still adamant about not fighting at her full power.
She continued to charge towards me, and when she was close enough, she swung the trident at me.
With a weapon like that, it would’ve been more effective if she tried to stab me, but she was clearly intending on not hurting me.
I side-stepped her feeble attempt, and in one motion, I grabbed the trident from her hand and kicked the back of her feet to get her down to the ground.
“At this rate, I’m worried about sending you back to Ryomen. Maybe I should send you back to Atlantis?”
“You can’t. You’ve already turned me.”
“It would be easy to sever the bond between us,” I countered.
“Why are you saying such things? I can’t fight with the intention of hurting you. If you allow me to fight against someone else, then I’ll prove my worth.”
“Like what you did against Persephone.”
Her expression froze stiff. I knew this was the reason she was acting distant lately.
It was because she lost against Persephone. For a girl that was eager to prove her worth like Selthia, such a defeat was crushing.
Suddenly, a flash of anger crossed her face.
The golden trident I was holding in my hand suddenly liquefied, then reappeared in Selthia’s hand.
“This is unfair. You also made a promise to me, don’t you remember?” Her eyes began to glow bright orange as she climbed to her feet.
“Not only are you breaking your promise, but you’re not allowing me to keep mine. I won’t allow you to do this.”
She pointed her trident at me. Immediately, an orb of water began to form at the tip of the trident. The orb of water continued to grow until it was the size of a basketball.
Then with a soft pop, she released the attack.
I smiled, feeling a bit satisfied when I saw the speed of her attack. The ball of water zipped through the air towards me, but by just twisting my body to the side, I was able to avoid it.
SPLASH!
The water landed on the ground behind me, but I immediately sensed that there was something off about the attack.
I quickly turned around to see the ground behind me drenched in water. There wasn’t even a dent in the ground where it impacted.
The attack held no power. If I was hit by it, then it would’ve done nothing but drench my clothes.
’So this was her stance.’
I couldn’t help but shake my head in frustration.
“How do you expect to get stronger if you don’t use your full power?”
I was met with silence. Selthia only charged up another attack aimed at me.
POP!
SPLASH!
It was the same as before. Her attacks held no real danger.
’I’ll have to take a different approach.’
While dodging her attacks, I took a deep breath and slowly began releasing my bloodlust.
I directed it directly at her. For a moment, she paused. This was one thing she couldn’t resist.
Even if she knew in her heart I wouldn’t hurt her, my bloodlust said otherwise.
What she was feeling right now was my strong intent to kill her. Even if she said she wouldn’t fight back or didn’t mind if I hurt her, every living creature had a strong will to live.
It would be impossible for her to not fight back.
Her body began to tremble, and her pupils shrank to the size of a needle.
She could no longer aim her attack properly. They were all over the place.
“Darling?”
What was in front of her right now was no longer her darling; it was a predator intending to kill. She could no longer see clearly.
I charged at her, and immediately as I did, she let out a loud scream and fired an attack that sounded more like an explosion than a soft pop.
This time, the attack was aimed directly at me, and the speed at which it approached was 3 times faster than the rest of her attacks.
I tilted my head to evade it, but as the attack moved past my face, I could feel the heat of it on my skin.
It crashed into the ground behind me and created a sizable crater in the ground.
Seeing that the attack had missed, she frantically began firing more of the same powerful attacks.
The attacks came in large numbers, and it was almost comparable to Cassian’s blood attack.
I mostly watched her pattern of attacks while dodging. One of the reasons why the trident seemed too heavy for her was because she wasn’t holding it properly, so when she fired an attack, it caused her to lose balance, and the attack to go slightly off course.
The other reason was because there wasn’t a lot of variation in her attacks; it was same the orb of water flying at me over and over again.
I had yet to see her be creative with her attacks.
Just as that thought crossed my mind, a giant orb of water began to form. This time, instead of a ball, it more looked as if a small pool had formed in front of her.
Suddenly, this pool of water began to take shape, mimicking the form of a snake!
